13x10 You Got Me:

Zoe is talking to Frankie and Kesha as well as other freshman about what she should wear to the dance. She was Prom Queen on West Drive but she’s still not used to doing things for real and wants to look good for her date. Frankie wants to know who she’s taking and hopes it’s not her stupid brother again. Zoe is about to say when Miles, Maya, and Tristan approach. Miles teases Frankie for hanging out with Zoe and comments that she’s dating Drew. Maya and Tristan are in shock and wonder what Drew’s girlfriend (nay Fiancé but they don’t say as much) would think of this before Maya smiles and says she’ll see her at the dance.

WHATEVER IT TAKES

Alli, Clare, and Jenna are in class together and there is an awkward silence. Clare breaks it and it’s reviled that Jenna is upset that she’s dating Leo. They bring up about how he traveled across the globe for her and they relate the relationship to a Nickolas Sparks movie (spoilers at least one character dies in his works…its truth universally acknowledged don’t you know) and Alli’s friends think she deserves better. Clare comments that she should invite Leo to the dance to let them see the guy she sees and Alli nods.

Simpson talks to Drew about the dance and asks if he’s been doing it by the book. Drew doesn’t know what book and Simpson mentions security personal, food, sound systems….he suggests going to talk to Clare but Drew promises he’ll get right on it and do it alone. As Simpson walks off Zoe approaches Drew calling him a liar cause he called her up saying all these things and she thought they were a couple. Nope, he tells her he has a fiancé and the calls were a sleeping pill enabled fluke.

Alli is studying for science class and it’s coming off like she doesn’t know the material seeing as how Leo is tutoring her however didn’t last school year she was planning on skipping senior year to go to MIT ON a science scholarship. Alli then invites Leo to the school dance so that he can prove himself to her friends…he’s offended she thinks he needs to prove himself and denies her and walks off.

Drew’s been cut off and is working on dance stuff when Dallas shows up in the Torres kitchen. Dallas tells Drew he’ll take the food, security and the set up the freshmen can take the cleanup and all Drew needs to do is set up a playlist.

Zoe approaches Zig the next day at school wanting some help. She asks if he’s the kind of guy she can ‘get things’ from before giving him money and Zig telling her how he knows a guy. When this scene/episode first aired this was a massive WTF but this story arch becomes a major one in much later blocks. What Zoe wanted from Zig was pills which she gives to Drew who was freaking out about getting things done. Zoe says he can have them if he escorts her to the dance and he reluctantly agrees. Some time passes and Drew is trying to focus working on a playlist for the party when he takes a pill.

The dance begins and the grade tens comment about the lack of music while Becky comments to Dallas about how the gym reminds her of Florida. Dallas asks if she’s a closet Miami Beach DJ and she nods, her stage name is DJ ‘Shake and Bake’ Dallas asks if she’s serious and she shakes her head snarking once more saying music is the Devil. I love Snarky Becky. She walks off and Dallas sees Alli asking if she’s all alone because he wanted to size up his competition. Alli says he was sick and Dallas says well at least she’s available to help out. Leo then shows up and Alli introduces him to Dallas….Leo plays it cool saying it’s nice to meet him and looks into fixing the sound bar.

Zoe shows up at the Torres house looking for Drew who is passed out. Drew wants to sleep but Zoe says she can’t let Miles and Maya see her go stag so he needs to man up and go. Drew asks about music and Zoe says she’s sure they got it covered.

They have gotten things covered Dallas and Leo fixed the system which is playing 80s music that was in the schools catalogue an easter egg to the original series perhaps? Leo comments about how in France people would dance at dances and when he tries to engage with Conner, Conner says how they aren’t supposed to be warm to him which causes Alli to be annoyed. She tells Leo to keep trying to win them over and Leo nods approaching Clare saying how he’s not a bad guy and wants to prove it by dancing with her. Clare then dances with Leo and Alli is impressed by Leo’s moves.

Zoe and a tweaked out Drew show up at the dance.

A slow song plays and Miles comments to Maya how it’s a shame they have nobody to dance with before dancing with one another stopping when they see the couple of Zoe and Drew. Drew is all messed up and is picturing Zoe as Clare guilting him about Adam. Miles and Maya comment asking if Drew is on drugs and Zoe tells the couple to just hook up.

Just one dance doesn’t prove Leo is a good guy however it’s a step in the right direction.

Drew starts stripping in the middle of the dance wanting to swim in the ocean and ends up jumping into the kiddie pool in the middle of the dance which sobers him up.

Zig watches Miles and Maya with a jealous look and Maya gives him a little wave…again this is the first and I believe only acknowledgment of their relationship until 13C….Zoe (who why she was never chem tested at least with Zig I’ll never know) walks up behind Zig saying that the two of them (Miles and Maya) are sickening…Zig is unamused. Zoe says how everyone thinks Maya is the sweetheart and she’s the bitch when Maya stole HER boyfriend. Zig comments how he told Maya he’d wait for her till she was ready to date again and apparently she’s ready. Zoe vows to teach Maya a lesson and Zig wishes her luck. Maya apologizes to Zoe about Drew’s actions and says she should have warned her he was an ass and how he screwed over Katie. Mays says she’s never really had any girlfriends and it soon seems like she and Zoe call a truce but you know what they say about friends close enemies closer.

Clare goes to check on Drew who is lounging in the student lounge telling Clare not to tell Bianca. Clare asks what he’s on, Weed? MDMA? Drew tells her he’s so sick of missing Adam. He was Drew’s rock, his moral compass and without him he’s lost. Drew wants to know what to do without him. Clare says she’ll come back and be Drew’s vice because Adam would want her to and that once Drew is ready they can revisit doing something in Adam’s memory. Drew then admits he was on sleeping pills.
