13x22/23 Unbelievable

I’m really hoping that this episode has taped as like I noted back when still doing postmortems this episode aired in the later timeslot of 10pm while my cable guide still listed it airing at 9pm and so I had to tape it when they did a TWEET peat a few nights later so I’m having to view the episode with pop ups and scrolling though I should still be able to recap this VERY SPECIAL Hour long two part episode.

It’s so special that before it airs we get a disclaimer of its graphic nature.

The episode opens as Zoe is waking up in the pool house as Frankie and Hunter arrive to bring her breakfast. She asks why she’s there and Frankie says it’s cause she drank too much at the party the night (and episode) before. She asks what she did and Frankie shows her some pictures of her dancing on tables and stripping.  Frankie comments how she guesses they aren’t singing at the winter WINTER WINTER (never giving up on that weather snark) talent show cause nobody would vote for them now however Zoe brings up how she fell off of a horse at a public event right into some crap and the next week she won a Teen Choice Award so she’s not dropping out after some stupid party.

WHAEVER IT TAKES

Imogen tells Becky she’s covering the sing off however Becky would rather do a piece on teens and alcohol siting the photos of Zoe at the party as her inspiration to do so. She wants to warn girls that if they get too drunk they can do something regrettable… it’s highly controversial and Imogen makes her get the green light from Simpson first as well as ask if she’s ready to not be known as the little miss sunshine of Degrassi anymore which Becky totally is.

Miles tells Maya that he made up with his dad however that’s not enough for Maya who is still pissed he threw a party instead of having alone time with her. He gives her an expensive gift and while Winston says they totally work on him it’s not working on Miss Matlin. Miles is going crazy and knows he can’t win at basketball (to which the team is in the playoffs for the first time in two seasons (so season 10/11A to be exact)

Zoe is practicing their number for the sing off ‘Let’s Get Physical’ by Olivia Newton John. Frankie doesn’t know if she can learn the number but Zoe assures her she and Keisha who is late will be great at it. Keisha finally shows up saying she was held up defending Zoe showing her pictures. Frankie says that people are thinking she had sex with the guy in the photo. Zoe is shocked asking them if they really think she has sex with random guys at parties before Zoe points out that’s EXACTALLY what was done with her and Drew. Zoe asks the girls to raise their hands if they’ve had sex, she’s the only one with her hand up and says she’d know if she had it or not and she didn’t so forget all the lies and rumors and they soon go back to practicing.

The basketball boys are in the locker room talking game however Miles is spacy about Maya still. They tell him he needs to get over it and Tristan suggests Miles do a grand romantic gesture to prove that he’s serious and ropes the team into helping them out.

Becky is going around with her camera and asks Clare what’s the most she had to drink. After hearing that this will be shown to the whole school she lies and says she’s never drank…she then goes to Drew asking what the craziest thing he’s done drunk…he too says he has always been sober and it was his concussions that make him act drunk…She then goes to Dallas asking what’s his favorite thing about alcohol. He’s all set to talk when Clare and Drew call over that it’s for TV and he again is all nope..sober. The comedic timing of this scene was flawless. Becky dejected asks Luke if she’s completely clueless. She’s trying to do a piece and can’t find anyone who drinks to interview. Luke says if he tossed his basketball he’d hit someone who did and tells her that he knows for a fact Drew, Dallas, and Clare have drunk. She wants to be a serious journalist and he tells her that she should ask one of the people from the party pictures which have gone viral and to not take no for an answer.

Zoe asks Miles if they’ve had sex because he’s the last person she remembers talking to and she then woke up naked. Miles says the last time he saw her was when he and Winston moved her passed out body to the pool house. She then gets approached by Becky asking how many drinks she had at the party and asks if she made out with a bunch of guys because she was under the influence. Zoe tells her nothing happened and people just need to let it go. Becky shows the her work to Imogen and thinks that she’s a failure however Imogen has an ace up her sleeve and shows Becky a video posted by someone known as ‘The Watcher’ of a drunken Zoe. Becky later on goes to ask Drew a question and shows him said video of Zoe. Drew asks who did it and Becky is all it’s not you? Drew tells Becky that sometimes when someone drinks they black out completely and Becky puts pieces together and realizes that Zoe was gang raped. After this realization she, Drew, and Imogen begin to try and unravel this mystery.

Jenna tells Becky she was at the party but not for long…she might of seen Zoe with Winston…Maybe…but be careful cause Zoe is a pathological liar….Imogen questions Dallas who doesn’t know…she asks if it could have been a member of the team as all the members (sans Dallas) were there but he can’t tell… Drew is talking to Zig who totally saw the video and isn’t shocked at all cause Zoe is a bit crazy and Grace rolls her eyes asking Zig if he thinks Zoe deserved it and tells Drew she’ll keep her ears open cause whoever did this deserves a swift kick in the balls.

Zoe, Frankie, and Keisha are walking down the halls singing Let’s Get Physical. Zoe is pleased the freshman have the number down and Frankie says in a few hours the school will see once more that Zoe is a star not a skank…this is until Frankie’s cell beeps as she’s sent THE video. Zoe says she’s not that girl and can handle it and she watches admitting she doesn’t remember and wonders just who would do this to her.

The trio of Becky, Imogen and Drew still have found nothing and Imogen tells Becky she should go cover the signoff however the ‘watcher’ posts a security video of the party. It’s footage of Winston and Miles bringing Zoe to the pool house to sleep it off and Becky observes that Miles is wearing a basketball jacket and the arm of one of the boys in the video was wearing one as well. Becky wants to film the story but Imogen says they need more proof.

Maya can’t believe Tristan didn’t tell her he was singing as she arrives at the sing off. The show starts and Drew announces the first act is Miles who comes onstage with the other basketball boys who serenade Maya.

Zoe, Frankie and Keisha are up next however as the perform Zoe starts to flash back to the video and perhaps even memories of that lost night are resurfacing and she runs off stage cause she can’t do this. Becky turns to run after her and Winston comments that she’s supposed to be covering the story for DTV however she has a more important story to follow.

Becky goes to talk to Simpson telling him about the videos and asking for approval. She wants to be known as a serious journalist however he tells her it can’t go on DTV and in fact the cops need to be involved.

The serenade worked and Maya took Miles back on probation however their reunion is short lived as Simpson pulls Miles and Winston into the office for some police questioning.

It’s the end of part one and it looks like the network didn’t do a tweet-peat though I assume it’s due to subject matters…also another viewer digression disclaimer

The cops are asking Becky if she can tell them about the events of the party and she admits she wasn’t there but shows them the pictures. Zoe is asked if Miles and Winston assaulted her but she doesn’t know..she blacked out. Miles and Winston admit they did take her to the pool house but they didn’t assault her and Winston points out the time stamps on the videos proving they didn’t do it. Becky is told false accusation is serious and she apologizes…but if it wasn’t them who was it?

Becky asks Luke if all the boys at school are now getting interviewed by the cops and she blames herself for butting in saying she’s going to drop the case. She goes into the council office where there is a debate as to whether to still hold a pep rally for the Basketball team with all this going on making Becky feel even more guilty. The meeting ends and Becky apologizes for showing the video. Drew also apologizes saying Zoe wouldn’t of even been blackout drunk if he didn’t dump her.

Miles and Winston are celebrating they are not pervs as Maya comes in. Miles says he’s saving her front row seats at the game and Maya informs him the pep rally was indeed canceled as the rest of the team are still very much persons of interest. Maya asks WHY he was carrying Zoe in the first place.

Drew and Becky are still talking about the case however Imogen wants them to drop it. Becky asks her what if was her or Imogen…Drew says how the watcher has been posting pictures of all the guys at the school labeled rapist…him included and finally Imogen is swayed into being back in the investigation.

Zoe is in the hospital and the doctor tells her she has results. Zoe isn’t pregnant and shows no signs of any known STDs however the exam showed trauma to her vaginal area…she was raped.

Zoe soon shows up in school acting like nothing is wrong and wants to know where Frankie and her are eating lunch. Frankie tells Zoe everyone is mad and is blaming her for the pep rally getting cut cause while she didn’t make the accusations they were about her. Frankie says they are saying Zoe had consensual sex but regrets it and so she’s calling rape. Zoe wants to be alone.

Grace shows up and admits to the senior trio she’s the watcher and wants to make up for leading Becky into making the false accusation. She suggests that they send a text to one of the guys in each pair of suspects to try and weed them out.

Miles is Zoe’s partner in class and tells her she needs to tell Maya nothing happened between them so things go back to normal. Zoe asks Miles if he knows what it’s like not knowing and yells at him for doing nothing and just leaving her in the pool house passed out instead of making sure she was safe.

Imogen and Becky are talking about their results after the weed out when soon they hear two boys talking…not just any two boys but one of them Luke. Becky is in disbelief but Imogen mentions they were the only two that gaged any reaction. Becky asks to talk to her brother before they do anything about things.

Becky asks Luke to borrow his phone to call their mom to bring her a project however really she uses it to scroll through his photos and videos finding THE video of Zoe thus confirming he raped her. Becky asks him to tell her she’s just seeing things and he says he wouldn’t hurt anyone and that he’s her brother so she needs to trust him. Becky just walks away.

Zoe is in the gym punching a bag when Luke shows up asking her to just drop it that he didn’t mean to do anything wrong. She liked it and they were having fun. He wants to move past this to salvage both their reputations.

The team is bummed about no pep rally and Miles starts going at the team asking who hurt Zoe before walking out. He sees Maya asking if she’s going to the game and Maya apologizes to over reacting and asks why he’s not in the locker room. Miles doesn’t want to be with the people who hurt Zoe. Speaking of Zoe they walk toward him and ask her if she’s okay. She says she is and it was just a joke and bad rumor before out of the corner of her eye she sees Luke flirting with another girl and snaps calling him out for the assault and starts punching him. Becky holds Zoe back before giving her Luke’s phone and saying that it’s ripe with evidence to give to the police.

The last scene is a montage to the song ‘Brave’ of Luke being escorted to a squad car and Zoe walking back into the school met with the support of Miles, Maya, Tristan, Drew and Dallas before turning around to Becky thanking her and saying how she didn’t know that it was her brother.
