Since I’m still watching via DVR and not the DVD’s we get a
previously on segment. We see stuff about Eli, Drew, and Becky/Adam’s plot
which means if I were a betting woman those will be the main subplots of this
episode ….. (I don’t think I’ve actually watched them since they initially
aired a year ago so I’m not a hundred percent.)
Eli tells Clare that now that the musical has wrapped he
needs to have a new project as Becky comes off the school bus and bumps into
him. She then bumps into Bianca who is removing her ring to hide it from a
certain someone. Becky comments on it and Bianca says tell anyone and you’re
dead. She then runs into Jenna who she hasn’t seen in like forever and is all
gushy because she got seven tickets to Vegas donated for the fundraiser auction.
She then runs into Adam and comments about how she bets he’s glad that the play
is over….not that there was anything wrong with it just now he has free time.
The bell rings and Adam heads to class and Becky admits she’s had feelings for
Adam since opening night….he must be a boy or else she wouldn’t feel that way
and she hopes she hasn’t blown her chances.
WHATEVER IT TAKES
So, I don’t know how school goes in Canada but apparently it’s
the start of a new term though they were just getting back from Christmas Break
at the start of ‘Showdown’ so I would assume each quarter is a term maybe or
that the second semester starts a few months after Christmas cause Spring Break
is still seven episodes away…anyway Eli knows said term is going to rock cause
a famed director Brett Barnett is doing a lecture in one of Eli’s classes and
he knows if he can impress him he’ll get a glowing recommendation to NYU after
all it is his school of choice.
Marisol is making an announcement about the fundraiser while
Fiona is walking down the hall with Bianca wanting to know each and every
detail about the proposal…..She wants to see the ring and pouts when she sees
Bianca is hiding it on a chain around her neck. Drew has yet to tell Audra and
so things are on the DL right now because they know she’ll talk them out of it.
Becky is trying to talk to Adam about science class and is
all flustered and cute. She then asks if Adam would like to help her with the
fundraiser however now since the play’s over he’s got band stuff and thinks
maybe it’s best to not work together. Becky comments how after that night with
the play she’s opened her eyes to things and then asks again and after both Mo
and Zig tell her that Whisper Hug has to get ready for battle of the bands….which
is a focal plotline this arch, Becky then suggests the band plays at the
fundraiser cause what can be better practice then a live gig?
Townsend introduces the director to the class and assigns a
short film project to be screened in front of the class. Eli then starts asking
a barrage of technical questions and Brett tells him how the technical aspect
doesn’t matter so long as you’re telling a great story.
Student council is having a meeting about the fundraiser and
Becky brings up the band will be playing as well as roping Adam into being part
of the donations committee with her as a means to spend more time with him.
Jenna then talks to her and Becky ends up going to Adam telling him he doesn’t
have to go to the mall and collect donations with her if he doesn’t want to but
it’ll really help the school and they’ll be able to spend time together. Adam
is in.
Audra is reading over Bianca’s scholarship applications and
asks Bianca if Drew has made any new life altering decisions in the past week.
She feels out of his loop and tells Bianca that at least he has her to keep her
grounded.
There is a cute musical montage of Becky and Adam at the
mall and the fact that they are wearing the former grade nine polo’s over their
cloths to represent the school is somewhat amusing. They are at one clothing
store waiting for the sales girl to bring them donated hoodies and Adam goes to
try on cloths as Luke approaches his sister all disapproving. He tells her that
he thinks Adam likes her but he needs to end it because he knows mom and dad
will never approve.
Eli doesn’t have an idea of a subject for his film and he
needs to make things perfect in order to impress Brett and get a good recommendation.
Clare suggests Eli go to Jake for help. Jake says his project is in the can and
that he just filmed a plastic bag floating in the wind for two minutes. Eli
asks how he came up with the idea and Jake says he’ll share so long as Eli promises
to keep it between them…..
Jenna asks why Becky is sad and asks if things went okay
with Adam. They did….more so in fact that is until Luke pointed out her parents
would never approve of her and Adam’s courtship. Jenna tells Becky to lie to
her parents by omission. Becky nods and texts Adam to meet her. She gets a hall
pass and leaves class and Adam is waiting for her in the hall. She admits that
she likes him. Adam is sensing a ‘but you’re transgender’ and how it was stupid
that he fell for her. She’s happy he likes her and she says it’s not her it’s
just she knows her parents won’t approve and asks if he wants to be her secret
boyfriend….again she stresses she’s NOT ASHAMED she just doesn’t want her
parents to forbid them to see one another.
Jake once again tells Eli never tell Clare before Jake pulls
out a blunt. Eli is all WHAT you were high when you filmed you’re video. Jake
says yes and says he’s not going to force drugs on Eli if he doesn’t want it.
Eli takes the joint however and asks if he has to inhale it.
Bianca is taking Drew to the Dot to talk about wedding stuff
however as they arrive at the diner she tells him this was really an ambush for
him to talk to Audra about the engagement as she’s the closest thing to a parent
Bianca has ever had (um wouldn’t that make things incestuous.)
Becky is texting ‘A’ and her dad asks who it is. She says it’s
Adam and he’s a little more than a friend. The good reverend wants to meet him
and invite him over for dinner. Becky tries to brush it off and her dad asks
why….does he have a tattoo? Drive a motorcycle? Becky says no none of that and
her dad says good there is no problem.
Bianca tells Audra they have something to tell her and she
asks if Bianca is pregnant. Bianca says no but they are getting married over
the summer. Audra comments they are too young and she says she’ll be out of
High School and Drew is studying for the GED. Audra gets all judgy and Drew
storms out.
Becky calls Adam asking if he’s free because her parents
want him over for Dinner because she accidentally ousted them because she can’t
keep a secret. She’s freaking out because she knows what her parent’s reaction
to him being transgender will be. He’s confident hell pass for them after all
he passed for her.
Eli and Jake are high and Jake’s got the inline skates out…..Eli
is rambling on about his masterpiece he made
Adam is having dinner with the Bakers and talks about how
his mom is on the PTA and his dad’s a Lawyer and how they are Catholic and go
to church every Sunday. Luke asks if he
plays sports and Adam comments how he thinks he may go out for something this
year. Luke asks if it’ll be a boy’s team and Adam reacts as if Luke were just
teasing and he taunts right back. Luke then proposes a tost….to Adam who is
brave enough to date his sister…..TBC
The fundraiser is being set up however Becky is feeling a
bit guilty about lying to her parents. They met Adam and now that are wanting
to meet his parents and she just knows it’s going to come out he’s Trans and
shit is about to hit the fan. Jenna assures her that everything will be okay after
all they didn’t forbid Jenna to be her friend when she admitted she was
Baptized for a guy.
I KNOW I CAN MAKE IT THROUGH
Eli is showing Clare the plot synopsis he wrote when he was
stoned the night before commenting to Clare about how cool Jake is and how he
thinks this is going to be the beginnings of a beautiful friendship with the
other boy as he helped him over his writers block. Clare hands him his paper
back loaded with red ink as there are allot of corrections needed to be made.
Once in class, Marisol’s film gets rave praise from Brett and now it’s time for
Eli’s which is a trippy mess. Jake gives applause while Brett comments how it
reminds him of the tape from the ring and that he obviously didn’t take his
notes about plot.
Fiona’s helping design a wedding dress for Bianca who thinks
perhaps Audra is right and they are too young to get married. As she’s voicing
her insecurities to Fiona, Drew comes in the loft after all he does live there.
Drew calls her out saying Audra is manipulating her and he wants to marry her
this summer. Bianca wants to marry him two but at least in five years Audra won’t
hate her. Bianca says she’ll try to sway Audra into changing her mind.
Becky is roleplaying telling her parents that Adam is
transgendered with Adam and Jenna playing her parents. She tells them and they tell her they are
proud that she told them the truth and tell her it’s perfectly fine for Adam to
come over.
Bianca tells Audra that they are in love and they aren’t going
to let being married mess with their future. Audra however still doesn’t buy
it. She tells Bianca how she gets that she never had a real family and she’s
just lombing onto Drew because he’s all she has and she can do so much better.
Becky is pleased that her parents gave her their blessing
for Adam to come over and he comes inside however he’s met by the Reverend who
wants to have a little chat with him about going to reparative therapy because
they want what’s best for Becky. Adam storms out pissed and Becky is just as
pissed as she locks herself in her room.
The next day at the fundraiser Adam asks if Becky is okay
and she admits she cried all night in her room and can’t believe her parents
ambushed them. Adam says whatever happens they can get through it together.
Adam kisses Becky who soon realizes her parents are at the event. She tells
Adam to go and play she can take care of her parents.
Bianca comes to the school looking for Drew and tells Fiona
about how Audra thinks that she’s still the same piece of trash girl that’s not
good for her son. Bianca is not that girl and wants Fiona to help her with
something.
Becky tells her parents that if they are at the school to
send her to Florida or Brainwashing Camp she’s not going. Her parents say that if
she’s with Adam she will never have kids and she’ll have to give up her
relationship with god because Adam is still a girl no matter how she dresses
and the bible frowns on homosexuality.
Eli is all mopy cause his film was a bomb. He admits to
Clare that he and Jake smoked weed. Clare comments that he’s lucky it didn’t
mess with his bi-polar meds before coming to the realization her step brother
is a pot head. Eli’s worried that that if he bombed a High School film he’ll
never make it at NYU and worries he peaked with Romeo and Jules. Clare gives
him a pep talk in the form of a batman reference complete with accented quotes.
The bidding for the Vegas tickets soon begins as Bianca
tells Drew screw Audra’s approval as Fiona buys the Vegas tickets for 3,000
Bianca tells Drew he’s paying for them….. She’s going to marry him on Spring
Break in the presence of five of their closest friends….screw Audra.
Becky tells Jenna she wishes things with her parents and
Adam weren’t so complicated. She goes to Adam to pick up the tickets and finds
a tampon in Adam’s bag and comes to the realization boys don’t get periods and
what her parents are telling her is right.
Eli does a new short film with him and Clare and he shows it
to Brett. He’s impressed by this do over. Eli asks for a recommendation. Brett
admits he doesn’t normally write them but he sees some promise and determination
in Eli and that NYU would be lucky to have him.
Becky tells Adam that she’s decided to accept her parents
help and is going to reparative therapy. Adam tells her she doesn’t need to be
fixed she’s perfect. She tells him she’s confused and it’s cause of Adam and
she breaks down crying.
