This is another episode that is somewhat misleading
as we are not having another lockdown at Degrassi…..though like insanity
Degrassi somewhat manages to do the same things over and over again at times
and hopes to attain a different result sometimes it does other times it doesn’t.
I’m just a bit rambling cause as I type this re-cap a new promo has come out
for the next block of the present season and it looks like a giant clusterfuck
and by the time this recap posts the first episode of said block will of
already aired and so you may judge for yourself….
The episode opens as Declan arrives at
Degrassi with Fiona. He’s in town for the theater awards and to hopefully sweep
Holly J back off her feet because he’s not spoken to her in over a month.
Offering to take Fiona to class he’s told students only passed the doors. As
they reach the steps and he’s about to drop his sister off, Declan see’s Holly
J updating the marquee. She’s rather nice telling him how she’s surprised he
left New York to come to the little awards and he says how the play meant allot
and they agree to meet up for lunch. Fiona tells him she wants Holly J to be a
part of the family as much as he does but to not get his hopes up.
WHATEVER IT TAKES
Chantey is pissed that Spirit Squad got the
ax and goes to vent to Simpson. He tells her that it’s out of his hands thanks
to the events of Vegas Night and that they need to turn in their uniforms ASAP.
Sam gives Holly J a side hug cause it’s
still aloud and says that he hopes to have alone time with her at lunch to
finalize the awards ceremony. Holly J says she has plans with Declan and it’s
clear Sav’s jealous. Holly J assures him she doesn’t want him to win her back
and what they have is just what she wants in the moment.
Eli’s back from his post Vegas Night suspension
clearly not having gotten the uniform memo. Dawes informs him that the dress
code it not mortician and he’s been given a detention and he knows the rules.
He mentions how he was MIA cause of suspension and Dawes says it’s his final
warning. Eli comments he dodged a bullet and Clare comments that she thought he
only dodged knifes. He asks if she’s still pissed as it’s been three weeks and
she counts backwards from ten to one telling him all is now forgiven. He’s glad
cause if she still was miffed it would totally ruin the first date he had
planned to take her to a reading by an auther that they both enjoy. She tells
him she can’t go cause it’s the theater awards and it’s a rare occurrence that
BOTH parents are going…..but the reading is at eight so the awards might be
over in time.
Anya and Chantey are venting about how
Simpson wouldn’t hear their pleas and how he wants the uniforms back but Chantey
plans to fight however all the social network sites have been taken down thanks
to a new school firewall. Chantey can’t even use the wifi on her phone thanks
to the new cell phone jammers and you can clearly tell Miss Oh is not amused at
all considering she pretty much has to scrap all her curriculum due to this
change. Chantey decides to voice things via post it.
Declan informs Holly J that he’s decided to
use his money to set up a scholarship for inner city kids. Holly J asks if he’s
had any girls and he says no he’s been a monk. He asks if she’s had any guys
and she says Sav they have this arrangement where they are living in the moment
till grad then plan to go their own ways. Declan is happy for her and isn’t
going to judge her for moving on.
Clare and Helen are waiting outside the
theater but Randal is late. Clare mentions asks if she can go out after the
awards but Helen says no cause it’ll be pushing her cerfew. She then tells
Clare to call Randall cause if she calls he’ll surely lash out. Clare is bitter
saying the least her parents can do since they’ll be bicker some all night is
to let her have some fun. Helen tells Clare her and her father need to have a
talk after the awards and she knows it’s THE talk.
Declan asks why Fiona didn’t tell him about
Sav and she says how he didn’t want to mess up the holidays.
Randal apologizes for being tardy saying he
was picking Clare up flowers.
Declan and Fiona join Holly J and Fiona in
the audience as Simpson says how he’s pleased to have Degrassi host the Grundy
Awards. Clare’s category comes up and she ends up winning however all her
parents are doing is fighting. As she’s giving her speech Holly J walks out for
air and Declan wonders how long he can keep up his ‘act’. When she’s done she
see’s Eli waiting in the wings and she says screw her parents and she runs off
with him to the reading. Declan wins he thanks Jane who is off in Stanford then
calls the rest of the cast and crew onstage before saying he couldn’t of done
it without Holly J.
Chantey comments to Simpson how he surely
is feeling generous after Degrassi awards haul and he asks when she’ll have the
uniforms.
Sav comments to Holly J on Declan’s speech and
wonders if he is trying to woo her even though he swore he was okay with her
moving on. Speaking of the Devil he invites the duo to a party. At the party
Fiona asks Declan the plan and it’s to get Sav away from Holly J so he can take
her into a room to talk to her. He does this by showing him a DJ program on his
tablet and has him go play.
Eli and Clare leave the reading and Clare’s
cell keeps going off with calls from Helen. She keeps ignoring it and Eli
comments about how rebellious Clare’s being and she says how she can really be rebellious
and suggests that they get matching piercings before dragging him into a tattoo
parlor.
Sav has his DJ boot set up and is working
the party as Declan accosts Holly J asking if she wants to dance. She says no
but thanks Declan for being so cool with Sav. Declan tells her he misses her
and that they are perfect for one another and he still loves her and never
stopped. She tells him nothing is going to happen.
Anya and Marisol join a pissed Chantey at
the DOT. Marisol doesn’t want to get suspended and was only at the Dot to meet
her BF but that she hopes it’s reinstated next year leaving Chantey and Anya alone
to mull things through.
Eli didn’t realize the piercing would hurt
so badly and Clare is still acting all rebellious. He loves this Clare and
hopes that she shows up on date number two. Clare comments how the night is
still young as her phone goes off again. She comments how she’s only an hour
late and her mom can deal with it as Eli brings up it’s the tenth time that she
has called and that who cares. Eli tells him he cares and he doesn’t want to be
the blame for her being late. She asks if she can keep him out just a bit
longer to make out.
Fiona asks Declan why he’s so sad before
offering him champagne. He comments about how he thought she was going cold
turkey over the holidays and she says she’s only drinking in the moment cause
she’s happy and besides Declan will thank her later as she has a plan. She asks
him why the room got so spinney and starts to pass out. Holly J tells Sav to go
cause she knows the drill with drunk Fiona and offers to stay the night cause
she needs her.
Helen and Randall comment about Clare
walking in at midnight….with a piercing. Helen says she had plans and Clare
says deal with it and how she’s glad that they are mad at her and not each
other.
Declan thanks Holly J for staying for Fiona
and asks if she does this allot. Holly J she’s never been this bad. Declan says
he feels like a bad brother and Holly J says he’s a good guy and he says he’s
not as good without her and asks what he’ll do about them. He starts nipping at
Holly J’s neck and she tells him no they shouldn’t be doing this and he tells
her this is right and pleads with her saying he loves her as he continues to
kiss her with force and she just lets him without pushing back….tbc
Declan is lying in bed naked with a content
look on his face as Holly J is zipping up her dress and looking for her shoe.
He asks if her curfew couldn’t be just a bit later and she tells him how she
called a taxi. He tells her it’s been one amazing night first
the Grundy and now this….he’s so glad to be close to her again. He asks if he’ll
see her tomorrow and she says yes before taking the walk of shame.
I KNOW I CAN MAKE IT THROUGH
Declan is cooking breakfast as Fiona comes
down into the kitchen and asks what happened. Declan informs his sister he and
Holly J hooked up and are back together and she’s pleased her plan to drink and
pass out worked cause it helped get Holly J stay over and besides she wasn’t
really as drunk as she played. Declan tells her he’s transferring back to
Degrassi cause he got an Early Acceptance to Yale and he wants to be with Holly
J and he can keep an eye on her.
Chantey and Anya are still trying to figure
out just how two people can make a difference when Chantey calls Anya into a
stall. She put an angry post it up the day before and now everyone is putting
their angry complaints via post-it in the girls room stall saying what clubs
and privileges they wish back.
Declan shows up at Degrassi and tells Fiona
she thinks Holly J is avoiding her cause she’s not texting him back. He sees
Sav and asks if he’s heard from Holly J. Sav comments about the jammers but tells
him if he sees her she’ll get him to call.
Eli is out of uniform again as Clare comes
into the class. He comments about how fun the date was the night before and
hopes it was worth the parental drama that was sure to come by it. She nods
saying that for date two they should get matching tattoos….dragons….on their
backs. He comments they should save something for their six month anniversary
and she says it’s a tad optimistic. He asks if her parents hate him and she
informs she’s not mentioned him and he’s a bit crushed. Dawes comments how he
hates the new rules too but unless he has a doctor’s note saying he’s allergic to
cotton and kaki he needs to follow the rules….. Clare tells him that her
parents should meet him and invites him for dinner.
Fiona tells Holly J that Declan is coming
back and he really loves her and how she thought that she’d be happy since they
reconnected last night. Holly J’s not….she can’t say anything cause Fiona may
be her best friend but she’s also Declan’s sister so she can’t say anything bad
about him to her. Holly J says she didn’t want things to go as far as they did….she
felt pressured into it.
Anya and Chantey are meeting with a group
of girls saying that this isn’t just about spirit squad this is about all clubs
and getting them back. Anya comments about that they should make a sticky note
wall so Simpson can see it and Chantey says that’s brilliant only something
bigger than a wall.
Declan is waiting in the theater for Fiona
and asks his sister what Holly J had to say about him moving back. Declan is
all giddy but Fiona isn’t she tells him he should just go home to New York
cause Holly J doesn’t want to see her. He says why not, he’s grown he’s changed
and last night….Fiona says that’s just it…last night Holly J didn’t want to and
Fiona asks if Holly J said yes….did he ask or did he force her. Declan has the
realization that she thinks he raped her. Personally from my perspective as a
viewer I see it more or less as he guilted her into it cause while she didn’t
want to do it and even said no when he first began to kiss she reluctantly
succumbed to him instead of trying to fight back. I know that there is a great
debate as to whether or not he really did rape her but that’s just my two cents….moving
on…..
Holly J is waiting on a customer as Declan
shows up at the steakhouse wanting to talk. Fiona’s given him the impression that
she didn’t want to and he asks if it’s because of Sav. He tells her that she’d
kissed him and he thought she had feelings back…she says she’s confused and has
customers to wait on.
Eli’s having dinner with the Edward’s and
they ask how they know one another. They talk about how they are in English
together….when they decide to attend class. His dad’s a shock jock from the
station Randall doesn’t like and that Eli drives a herse…. Helen asks if Eli
wants to say grace as their guest and Clare comments….Eli’s also an atheist.
The following day, Simpson’s car is covered
with post it’s and seriously why are there not more GIF’s of his reaction to
it. He asks Chantey if she knows how this happened and she asks if he needs help
clearing it.
Sav asks if Holly J is all right because
she hasn’t talked to him since Fiona’s party. Holly J claims she’s fine but she
just wants to check something. From Miss Oh asking if she heard any news I
assume this has to do with Yale as she pulls up some page online that looks all
college-y and says oh my god. Stepping into the hall, she sees Fiona who has a
note from Declan…he’s sorry and he’s out of her life his flight is leaving in a
few hours. Fiona says that she gave him the impression she didn’t want to talk
and that he thinks she thinks he raped her. She tells Fiona that she just
couldn’t talk at work and never thought he did that to her and goes to the
condo to catch him.
Chantey reads all the post its of people
pleading for their clubs to be back. Simpson says that it’s beyond his hands….this
is Degrassi Community School emphasis on SCHOOL….Chantey says what about the
COMMUNITY after all not everyone brought a knife and/or hooked up at Vegas
Night. Simpson agrees to set up a forum to see what can be done so long as
stunts like the post it’s on his car aren’t pulled again.
Eli’s finally in uniform however Clare is
so very much not as she’s dressed all rebellious. She’s living dangerously
cause she’s scared about her parents telling her they are getting a Divorce
cause if her parents are both mad at her then they’ll stop fighting with one
another. Eli says go play your game but I’m not going to be your pawn.
Holly J shows up to Declan and tells him
don’t go. He has to so he can stop hurting her. He’s out of her life and she
never has to see him again. It’s going to be hard as she tells him she got into
Yale.
Clare comes home in her punk outfit and is
met with her parents fighting…again. She just needs someone to sign her
detention slip. She tells her parents to just stop being so horrible with one
another. They tell her they are getting a divorce and she promises to behave
again. They say it’s not cause of her acting out but that its best cause they
know how much the fighting is getting to her.
Declan comments how they both got in and he
thought it would have been a happier moment. She tells him she doesn’t think he
raped her. He asks if she hates him and she says no she just regrets doing it.
She needs time to think and he wants her in his life. She says when she’s ready
to talk to him she’ll call and while they never end up back together and we
never physically see Declan again after this episode there are things later
mentioned that make it clear they are on speaking terms once more.
