10x19/20 Still Fighting it RECAP

Riley passes Zane in the hallway and there is a smile between them as Riley soon meets with Anya. She asks if Riley plans to sign up for the schools bachelor auction since the girls would fight tooth and nail for him because he’s quite a catch. The guys would too if he wasn’t stuck inside the biggest walk in closet like ever…..She then asks how Zane is cause let’s face it she so saw their little energy exchange however Riley tells her all they talked about was math. She tells him he should go talk again and Riley promises he’ll do it tomorrow. She tells him the present is a gift and he should go give said gift to Zane in the form of flirting.

WHATEVER IT TAKES

Riley asks Zane out for a coffee in the locker room however while after being told Riley’d pay Zane couldn’t possibly say no he’s soon mocked by Owen both verbally and in the form of a pink practice shirt and as Riley joins in on the locker room hijinks Zane is soon turned off.

Dawes is passing back poetry assignments to which Clare is upset she got an A- Eli suggests she should of used his notes and she comments that it’d make her work sound like bad ‘Alexis On Fire’ lyrics. I assume this is a band and Eli likes them cause he teases her comment hurt and Adam is watching the exchange mentally thinking ‘GET A ROOM’ The next assignment is a modernized Shakespeare scene in groups of three. As Eli goes to get the video packet for the group, Clare confides to Adam how she wants to take her relationship with Eli from friends to more she just doesn’t know when. Eli then comes back saying that they got Romeo and Juliette.

Anya asks Riley how Zane is going and Riley tells her how Zane didn’t like the locker room jokes. Riley admits he’s trying to fake it till the seasons over and he comes out however to cope he can either use his words or his fists and he thought he chose the better bet. Anya suggests Riley goes to an LGBT meeting on homophobia.

Wesley sees Anya done with her conversation with Riley and asks if he can sign up for the auction. Anya says yes and as she walks off Dave tells his friend he’s crazy. Wesley comments how the viral video made them popular while Dave tells him the video got only 50 hits and most of them were from Wesley himself. Wesley admits he likes Anya and wants to date her and Dave tells him that Anya goes for guys like Drew not him and so Wesley plans to observe (note Stalk) Drew.

Clare is Juliette obviously while Eli volunteers to be her Romeo almost instantly as they discuss their scene and Adam is still mentally screaming MAKE OUT ALREADY!

Riley’s mom makes a comment about his new cloths and asks if he’s got a date. Riley tells his mom that he’s just going out with a friend but he hopes that it becomes more. His mom asks when she’s going to meet the lucky girl however Riley comments how it’s complicated. His mom says that if it’s meant to be it’ll be worth the wait and tells Riley how he should go with the Gray shirt cause it’s less….’zesty’

Eli and Clare do their scene and share their first kiss….well first if this is a first take one take thing because Eli doesn’t want to do a re-shoot even though Clare really wants to.

Riley shows up at the meeting NOT in the gray shirt because he just wants to understand. Zane raises hand to speak and brings up how he’s on the football team and the guys make comments but what really irks him is a closeted member joining in. Riley has a moment of realization; he’s a homophobe and needs to stop. The next day Zane asks if Riley is okay and he nods saying he’s done making and hearing jokes and soon goes off on Dave who comments saying something Wesley is saying is ‘so gay’.

Drew is failing Science and Wesley offers to tutor him.

Clare is all giddy she and Eli are taken that next step however Eli is acting like nothing has changed.

Wesley quizzes Drew who is clueless and this is before the shrooms and the multiple head traumas. Wesley brings up how he wants help wooing Anya and Drew tells him if he gets a B then he’ll help.

Anya asks Riley how the meeting went. Riley tells her that it was eye opening and as captain something needs to be done in the locker rooms. Anya suggests he pulls a Spartacus and get all the players to say they are gay.

Clare moons over the scene footage while Riley drops his red polo in with the practice shirts in a weird disjoined montage moment.

Clare tells Dawes how she’s having issues finding Romeo and Juliette’s motivation and Dawes says their downfall was the lack of communication

Riley gives out the pink shirts saying the room is now a homophobia free zone however Owen’s not hearing it and walks out.

Clare confronts Eli about the kiss and asks if it meant anything to him or if he was leading her on. He apologizes for leading her on.

Zane commends Riley for his Spartacus act and how great it is that Owen was the odd man out. Then they see the word HOMO etched on Riley’s locker…..tbc

Zane follows Riley outside asking if he’s okay. Riley shakes his head. Someone wrote Homo on his locker and he just knows it was Owen and he’s going to pay. Zane says how he’s just trying to get to him through Riley and that Riley should put his guns away and talk to Simpson instead of starting a rumble. He tells him Owen’s an idiot and to count to ten. Riley does however then he sees that Owen with the same shaving cream used to tag the locker has written ‘Riley Is A Fag’ on a school bus. Owen asks Riley to pick up the can cause who knows what he’ll do if he bends over himself. Riley then sucker punches Owen in the nose and Owen tells him they are lucky they are on school property right now. Owen walks off and Riley goes to the bus to wipe off the cream.

I KNOW I CAN MAKE IT THROUGH

Eli’s not in class the next day and Clare just wants to know what his deal is. It’s like he has some big dark secret that he doesn’t want to tell her and she suspects he’d talk to Adam more about it because he’s one of the guys. He comments how he can’t believe how he’s gone from third wheel to go between. Dawes then calls Adam and Clare up to talk about the ending of their video which Clare changed so that Juliette realizes she can do better and chooses life instead of meeting a tragic end. She tells them it’s creative but inaccurate and they need to re-work it and asks if Eli can’t inject some of his creativity into it.

Riley wants to talk to Zane however he’s mad that Riley would snap even after all his anger management. Fists don’t stop ignorance and it’s only going to make matters with Owen worse.

Wesley admires Anya from afar as Drew tells him he got a B+ on his quiz. Drew tells him to woo Anya there is one thing he needs. Wesley says a bowtie (what…..BOWTIES ARE COOL!!!!!) BUT Drew says no, what he needs is self-confidence. He asks how he can get it and Drew says you need to act like you’re in charge.

Clare asks if she can re-edit the ending on her own cause Eli’s gone rogue. Dawes says she may and off the record she really did like Clare’s spin despite it not fitting with the assignment and asks Clare how she came to it. Clare basically vents on her feelings toward Eli and Dawes knows this is what she’s talking about. She says that sometimes a friendship can crumble over one person wanting more than the other and that she should try to salvage the friendship.

Riley wants Owen to stop being a homophobe and Owen calls Riley phycho and Riley gets a bit handsy again.

Wesley goes to ask Anya out using his confident douchebag attitude that Drew told him to use however he cracks. He asks Drew for more advice and Drew says blow off the auction.

Eli and Adam are reading comics and comparing notes. Adam then tells Eli that Clare wants to know what’s up with the secrecy. He admits all he wants to do is kiss her but he also doesn’t think she deserves to get weighed down by his baggage.

Riley’s at the Dot and he hears screaming coming from the Alley. They jumped Zane and threw him in the dumpster. Zane asks what Riley said to Owen and is mad that he used his hands again and not words.

Clare asks Adam if he talked to Eli and Adam says that he went home. Clare just wants closure if she wants to get over her feelings. Adam says drop it but it’s clear that he knows what’s up and she takes his comic book refusing to give it back till he gets an address.

Riley tells Anya about how he blew it with Zane for the millionth time that week. Anya comments how Owen was at least suspended since someone told on Simpson what he did. Riley wishes he was the one with the balls to do so. Wesley shows up saying he wants to back out of the auction because girls won’t bid on a guy like him. Anya says no he’s the perfect guy he’s sweet, nice, and doesn’t try to be someone he’s not.

Clare shows up at Eli’s house because she wants to know why he doesn’t LIKE her so they can be friends. He’s a bit resilient to answer but soon tells her to leave her bike he wants to take her for a drive.

Riley’s looking at photos of him and Zane as his mom comes in asking how his date went. Riley says it didn’t work out and his mom tells Riley to just be himself. Riley wants to tell his mom something….this girl she’s not…his mom cuts him off saying it’s fine if she’s not Greek just as long as she gives her grandkids.

Eli and Clare are stopped at an intersection and Clare comments how this is the part where he’s going to dump her and make her find the way to his place alone and he’s messed up. He tells her she’s right he is messed up. He can’t be just friends…..he likes her too much but she deserves better than him….this is where he killed his girlfriend…..well not literally, Eli didn’t have her blood on his hands just….they had a big fight and she fled and got struck down by a car. He shouldn’t be happy.

At the auction, Alli buys Drew and now its Wesley’s time on the block…..Anya ends up buying him for $2. Riley wants a chance to talk to Zane however Zane tells Riley how he’s giving him whiplash. One moment he’s the sweet caring guy he loves and the next he’s a violent jock. If Riley can be the former all the time than maybe he can find it in his heart to give Riley another chance. Zane then goes on the block Riley ends up bidding $50 on him and it’s his way of coming out.

Eli, Clare, and Adam show Dawes the original cut. Adam’s glad that they are on speaking terms and he wonders what changed. Eli tells him he told Clare about Julia.

Riley asks Zane what they’ll do on their date and Drew walks over asking if Riley’s officially out. Zane tells him he was just helping a bro out and Drew says cool cool either way. Riley says Zane didn’t need to cover and he knows….they hold hands in the hall and Zane tells Riley he has some plans to make.
