This is one of those episodes that I’ve partly been looking
forward to re-watching and at the same time due to recent events in present
cannon have equally been dreading. This is a huge Adam centric episode and the
big revel of his character identifier.
It’s hours before school and Adam is complaining about the
loud music blasting from Audra’s van. Drew says it’s to amp him for practice
and Adam asks why he has to go to school early again. Audra comments how he can
watch Drew but Adam just wants to be able to play sports or at least be in REAL
PE and not recreations class. Audra comments how it’s a new year at a new
school and Adam should just lie low. Adam comments about its High School and lying
low is impossible and besides they are doing ballroom dancing which is just as
bad as something that would be done in real PE. Audra is adamant about Adam
going to recreation instead and tells him how his grandma is coming to town and
it would be nice if ‘Gracie’ came to dinner. Drew goes to practice as Adam
tells Audra that ‘Gracie’s’ gone and he’s not playing dress up.
WHATEVER IT TAKES
Adam’s looking at his reflection and Eli approaches him playfully quoting Michael
Jackson and the thought that Adam didn’t know what Eli was talking about just
makes him loos points with me. He asks what’s up in the wonderful world of
recreation and Adam tells him about dancing. Eli’s response is ‘oh boy’ and not
cause he’s reacting to the subject matter but Clare has just approached the
duo. She’s just edited Eli’s latest short story and doesn’t approve much of
this Clara character….she’s a floozy and Clare wants him to change it. Clare
leaves and Adam comments how the two of them are sickening and this is BEFORE
they are a couple may I remind you. Eli tells him to have fun with the girls in
class before taking a step back asking if there are any cute girls in the
class. Adam mentions Bianca who he thinks is pretty hot and Eli says yea in a
scary kind of way..
Anya’s running late and asks if her mom can drive her to
school however her mom is sick though she doesn’t look it. Her mom thinks it’s
the flu and since her dad’s at work her mom says it’s a bus day and she has to deal.
Anya says fine but call the office cause she’s going to be tardy.
The ballroom teacher starts reading the attendance sheet and
Adam asks why Bianca she’s in recreation. Bianca says it’s an easy a you show
up and pass. The teacher calls for ‘Gracie Torres’ and Bianca raises an eyebrow
asking isn’t his last name Torres. The teacher apologizes calling Adam’s name
and saying it’s the wrong list.
Dave is looking at his grade and asks what Wesley got. Wes
got an A+ but Dave didn’t do as hot. He asks why he sucks so bad in MI and
Wesley says he should ask Miss Oh for some extra help. Dave goes to her and
says how he doesn’t agree with his mark and she tells him he should focus on
the upcoming blog assignment if he wants his grades to go up.
Anya shows up to Mr. P’s class and he tells her he’s already
assigned groups but she can work with Sav and Holly J which is set to be
awkward on all accounts. Holly J has an idea about doing a scale mottle of Pompeii
and wants to start working at lunch however Anya wants to check on her mom
first.
Adam asks Bianca to pair up with him to dance.
Dave tells Mr. P he saw ‘The Godfather’ like he recommended and
it was a great film. They talk a bit about it and how he did well on his essay
on the prohibition and Conner teases that Dave is teacher’s pet. Dave shakes
his head saying no he and P are just tight cause they have allot in common.
Conner says too bad he and Miss Oh don’t have anything in common.
Anya goes home with Leia during lunch and Anya’s mom isn’t
there. Her car isn’t there and her wedding ring was left out on the table. Leia
says it’s clear her mom’s having an affair.
Bianca comments how great Adam was in there and that they
should practice sometime. Adam freaks out and says he has to go and head to his
locker where he grabs tampons cause he still has a females anatomy and so still
gets his monthly present. He runs into Clare and he drops his tampons and as
Owen and some of the other jocks walk by he comments Clare is a klutz and they
are hers. He takes them and walks off.
The next morning Adam is standing in front of the bathroom
mirror getting ready and binding himself. Drew comments how it took him more
time to get ready when he was a girl. Adam snaps saying he was never a girl but
hey….Drew’s now in the bathroom with him. He asks if he thinks Clare said
something….Adam says if she did he doubts it was to anyone other than Eli.
Audra calls them down for breakfast and comments is SHE still in the bathroom. Adam swears she
messes up pronouns on purpose cause she’s in denial.
Anya asks her mom where was she when she came by at lunch to
bring soup. Her mom says she just stepped out but she’s better now. Anya
comments she knows she’s cheating. Her mom says no, she took off the ring cause
she’d been getting an MRI. She was feeling a bit off and she just wanted to
make sure things were okay and didn’t want to scare Anya especially if it was
nothing.
Clare and Eli are talking about the incident and Adam comes
over saying thanks for covering for him. Clare asks just what she was covering
for exactly however Eli comments no, if Adam
does or doesn’t want to tell it’s his business not there’s. He’ll tell….he
needs to. He’s a guy 100% however he was born in a girl’s body. He’s an FTM
female to male transgender. He asks if there are any questions. Clare asks if
he’s gay and he says no. He likes girls and since he’s a guy between the ears
where it matters it makes him straight. Eli says cool and asks how long he’s
known. Adam says since he was four and didn’t like dressing up or long hair.
Clare asks how does he know for sure he’s not just a tomboy or a lesbian and
Adam says he just knows. They ask if anyone else knows aside from them and
family and Adam says Simpson and most teachers….well accept for the ballroom
one who called him his girl name. Eli asks if this means he can’t fart in front
of him anymore and Adam would be insulted if he stopped.
Wesley and Drew are looking at Miss Oh’s face range and see
she’s in a relationship also that there are allot of photos of her and her
boyfriend on a motorcycle and so Dave decides to do a blog about cycling.
Adam approaches Bianca asking when they are going to practice
their moves and she says he’s not his type and he starts flirting back saying
he could be. She shoves him back when she feels something off. He’s too scrawny
to have man boobs so what the hell. She rips open Adam’s over shirt to see his blinded
tank. WHAT ARE YOU A GIRL? She’s seen freaks like him on Oprah.
Dave gives his presentation and shows his blog complete with
photos of Miss Oh he’d found online. He gets an F.
Anya goes to help Holly J and Sav with their project when
she gets a call from her mom. Something’s up and she needs to go home and asks
Sav and Holly J if they mind her doing her part at home.
Adam goes into the bathroom and Fitz and Owen start to
harass him. This is the boy’s room and they heard from Bianca that he’s not a
boy. They pick him up and toss him though a glass door.
Anya shows up and her parents are looking at photos of her
baby cousin. That’s not why she was sent home. They heard from the doctor and
her mom’s got a follow up appointment.
Drew yells at Adam about hitting on Bianca and that he was supposed
to stay under the radar. Adam says he’s fine and he’ll talk to the LGBT club.
Drew says there was a reason why he transferred to Degrassi and that nobody
hurts his sister and gets away with it…..well Adam knows what he means. It’s
clear Adam is at least part of Drew’s Achilles heel. He’s going to make it his
mission that nobody touches him again and Drew heads outside and starts beating
up on Fitz as Owen pulls Adam back. Fitz gives Drew a pretty bad ass whooping…..TBC
Audra is in the office with the boys saying how that now
Adam is ousted she thinks it best that they transfer schools again cause she
knows what happens with Trans kids. Simpson says she doesn’t need to pull him.
Fitz and Owen have been suspended and there are new procedures being put in
place to assure Adam’s safety namely that he’ll be escorted by a faculty member
from class to class and he’ll be using the disabled wash instead of the boy’s
one.
I KNOW I CAN MAKE IT THROUGH
Adam joins Eli and Clare and lets out a sigh. Eli asks who
his shadow is an Adam says it’s the civics teacher and LGBT adviser. He just
wants this to be over and Clare assures him it’s only a matter of time before
the next school scandal…. Oh Clare you have no idea what’s in store for you as a
student body when that comes to fruition….and what’s worse is that he’s going
to introduce her grandma to Adam for the first time. His friends wish him good
luck not that he needs it as Eli comments he’s a brave warrior.
Dave is pissed about the blog assignment and calls Miss Oh a
washed up digi witch. He says it’s cause he’s young and that she thinks he can’t
relate to her and he plans to make the class laugh if he can’t make her laugh.
Anya tells Leia how her mom has cancer. Holly J shows up
asking if Anya has the pieces she was going to work on. She asks if Anya is
okay and she tells her she never made the village. Holly J says no worries she’ll
do it and as she leaves the room she calls Sav in a panic. She thinks Anya
knows that the two of them are together and this is why she’s so upset.
Adam goes into rec class and Bianca tells Adam she’s no
lesbian and he’s not touching her. The teacher asks if Adam wants to dance with
him but he says he sprained his ankle and he sits the dance out.
Dave pulls a class clown act though JT did it so much better
sorry to say. She tells Dave simply to put his pants back on and doesn’t even
crack a smile.
Adam and Audra are shopping for dinner and Adam tells him
how he wants to introduce Grams to Adam. Audra tells him to not go to dinner.
She just wants a normal dinner and she’s just scared that Adam’s going to self-harm
again. She just wants to be normal.
The boys wonder why Miss Oh was sad and they notice she
changed her profile pic and is now listed as being single on face range. She just
has a broken heart.
Anya’s dad asks how her project is coming and Anya says it’s
good. She asks if her mom is going to lose hair and she says not with radiation
however she’s going to be tired and nauseous. She really wants Anya to come
with them to the meeting and asks if Anya wants to get manicures after dinner
cause she can’t let the cute doctors see her with bad nails. Anya doesn’t get
how her parents are so light about everything
and her dad says they can’t just put a freeze on their lives. Anya
excuses herself to go back to school.
Granny comments how Audra always takes her to places with
pictures on the menu and asks if she thinks she’s getting old. She then asks
where Gracie is and Audra comments how she had homework and couldn’t make it
however Adam shows up in his former female persona. Omar says he’s glad she
could make it and Drew comments it’s been a while.
Anya shows up and calls Holly J asking where she is cause
she’s ready to work but she sees her and Sav have finished. She looks at the
project and tells the figures they are all about to die and don’t even know it
and she goes and activates the volcano.
The grandma is showing them old pictures she found and Adam
says she has something she needs to say however Audra gives her the look and
instead ‘Gracie’ says she’s taking ballroom dancing.
The next day, Adam is stroking his burn scars as he’s getting
ready for school. He unbound himself.
Holly J is freaking out cause their project is ruined and
doesn’t believe she would screw their grade over something so stupid. Holly J
says how she knows Anya messed up the project cause she’s now with Sav and Anya
says how her mom has cancer and she’s a horrible daughter cause she’s at school
and not the hospital. Holly J says she’s a great daughter and she should go.
Adam shows up to school as Gracie and tells the teacher she’s
ready for her evaluation dance.
Dave apologizes to Miss Oh and tells her breakups get easier
with time. She admits the assignment hit a nerve cause it was there thing and
he comments how it was the worst topic to pick to suck up with.
‘Gracie’ is at the picnic benches and pulls out a lighter to
heat a hair clip and prepares to burn herself. Clare sees this and sees the
scars and asks what’s happening. He says if he’s Gracie everything is better
and when he’s her she burns to take the pain away. Clare tells him that he
doesn’t have to change everyone else does.
Anya shows up to the appointment and Doctor Kris introduces
himself.
Audra asks what happened and Adam asks when she looks at him
does she see a boy or a girl. She says a girl and Adam says how she’s said
goodbye to Gracie along time ago and Audra says it’s hard. She’s her daughter
and the only time she sees her is when grandma comes and in photos.
Adam, Eli, Clare, Drew, Audra, and Omar have a bonfire in
the ravine where they burn Gracie’s cloths.
