7x22 Don't Stop Believin' recap

Ellie is out speed dating as Marco and Eric are watching her from the kitchen. It’s confirmed they have been dating for a couple months now and Marco tells him he’s ready to go exclusive. The speed date is ‘only’ article research (sure) yet she’s bummed out of fifteen guys she’s only gotten two callbacks. Marco comments that when she makes editor she’ll have her choice of assignment but Ellie knows Eric has that job on lock. Paige arrives with exciting news. Her dad is paying mortgage on a condo for her…..that’s great but as Ellie reminds her she JUST redecorated her room at university house. Paige tells her she has to be out by the end of the month and so Marco and Ellie need to find a new roommate before they re-sign the lese for the house.

WHATEVER IT TAKES

Ellie tells Marco that Jesse told her that she is on the short list to take over for him. Marco tells her he’s thinking of asking Eric to move into University House with them. Ellie gets a text and goes to meet one of her speed date guys.

Simpson announces two students are tied for top marks and the Valedictorian Spot. Liberty and Damian. They need to give speeches and the grade twelve’s will vote on who gets to speak. Liberty thinks she should get it because Damian’s only been a student for a semester.

Marco and Eric are having a date and Marco asks Eric if he’d like to move in because they need another roommate so he and Ellie don’t split up. Eric tells Marco that he doesn’t want to wreck them by going too fast and that maybe moving apart from Ellie would be a good thing. Marco tells Ellie that Eric says no and Ellie suggests roommate hunting on Craig’s list but Marco suggests living apart. There is another blackout in the area and Marco goes to get candles.

Liberty and Damian are talking a candle lit Dot about the whole Valedictorian situation. She tells him he’s going to win because it’s a popularity contest though it’s her right. He gets a bit flirty despite being with Emma and they decide to debate.

Ellie and Marco are studying when Paige and Griffin arrive with melty ice cream from a local shop also in a blackout and they have a bit of a blackout party. Ellie and Marco head upstairs to his room and Ellie starts to feed ‘their baby’ aKa ‘Hip Hop The Rabbit’ commenting about how they’ll have to arrange custody of him when they move apart. She tells him she loves him and he loves her too. He comments how this may be one of the last nights they have together and talk about moving together in some run down shack. She starts to head to her room but he pulls her back and soon the two of them are making out and eventually wake up in the morning in bed together……no…..Marco is still gay but things have just gotten awkward. Ellie casually comments about how they should get a one bedroom together to save money….she meant it as a joke and Marco goes to hurriedly run to the exam.

Liberty comments to Emma how Damian was chivalrous and Emma’s glad he got her home in the blackout okay. She wants to talk with him so Emma and Manny head to class….Manny wants to go on a ‘hot boy safari’ and Emma plans to be her tour guide.

Liberty felt a spark and tells Damian that his talking felt like flirting but Damian assures her he’s with Emma.

Paige is cooking the defrosted bacon from the freezer when Ellie and Marco come home from their final. Ellie comments if you’ve never ate bacon then unexpectedly shared it with your best friend you’d want to talk about it….right? Marco comments if you’ve never even thought of bacon before wouldn’t you be confused. Ellie goes to the paper for the editor announcement and Marco tells Paige about the night before. He hopes it’s not going to ruin his friendship and he hopes Eric isn’t pissed that he cheated and with a girl no less.

Liberty is filming her speech and is badmouthing Damian.

They are waiting for Jesse to conference call from his new job with the news and Marco shows up. There are some comments made and Eric briefly considers moving in. Ellie is announced as the new editor.

Damian’s speech airs and he’s rather diplomatic and classy. It’s now time for Liberty’s mudslinging speech and she fakes choking to get out of presenting it. She’s saved however cause of another rolling blackout.

Marco wants Ellie to talk to Eric who is mad that Ellie got the job over him and he blames it on the fact that they were bed buddies.

Liberty suggests doing her speech aurally and that Toby can film on his phone to show to the rest of the school later. Liberty gives a new speech being diplomatic.

Marco tells Ellie that Eric feels like an ass for what he said. Ellie’s mad Marco didn’t defend her to Eric and comments that they are friends and friends kiss and Ellie then kisses Paige. Marco admits he almost didn’t stop and a part of him wanted to sleep with her. A part of Ellie would have let him. He tells her that the healthy thing to do is to move away to save their friendship.

Liberty is announced as Valedictorian. Toby says she should be glad for all the events that prevented her mean speech. Liberty goes to Damian confessing what she did and suggesting that perhaps they be co-valedictorians. Damian tells her no she deserves it….she’ll be a great speech he also admits to flirting with her.

Ellie and Paige are packing up and Marco comments about how this is a bad idea because they are going to grow apart and never see each other. He’s going to miss his hags living under the same roof as him. And this is the last we shall see of this trio  until the ‘Movie’ that comes out at the end of season eight and after that we see Marco one more time in a season 9 cameo and Paige in a season 11 webisode (which I might recap/review when I get caught up with my re-watch we’ll see)
