7x09 Hungry Eyes-recap

First off I love this episode because it’s another bottle episode where the majority of the plot takes place at Degrassi and how the A and B plot both revolve around the same event (the intermural tournament)

 Emma and Manny are heading toward the school and Emma is commenting how she hasn’t heard from Sean in a while and that she’s been stuck on her admissions essays…..um I know I’ll comment about this when I get to season twelve too but timeline wise it’s most likely February or March not that you can tell from the weather outside or the wardrobe and by now letters would start coming out cause application deadlines were like December or January…..anyway rant aside the school is being taken over by Purple Dragons and not of the friendly little Figment variety no…. it’s a corporate sponsor for the school badminton tournament….. Seriously maybe it’s just a Canadian thing but I’ve never heard of people playing it intramural in school before. Liberty is set against this but Damian thinks it’s great and rally hopes Emma auditions to be one of the sample girls. Manny agrees and tells Emma she needs to spice up her boring life.

WHAEVER IT TAKES

Damian gives Emma a flyer reminding her of the audition in case she’s changed her mind.Manny comments Damian is into Emma and she so should go for it since the two of them were only together like four hours. Emma says she’s glad she has Manny’s blessing but there is still Sean who just so happened to of sent her an email telling her thanks for the tofurkey and the antiwar books….what no hemp underpants. Emma realizes maybe she should spice it up.

Mia’s watching the students practice and Sav tells her how she used to be a great player and if she’s interested he needs a new mixed doubles partner. Mia accepts.

Liberty is anti- Purple Dragon and wants to protest the student auditions. Emma says that instead of protesting they should infiltrate from within to shake things up.

Mia practices with Sav and isn’t as rusty as she thought she’d be. They talk a bit about the old days like how Sav went to a school dance in biker shorts. In his defense it was a costume party and he was a very skinny Lance Armstrong. He admits to Mia that he’s never done it. Mia says it’s okay to still be a virgin and Sav replies no….he’s never been kissed. She tells him she’ll help with getting more comfortable with girls.

Emma, Manny, Liberty go to audition. Manny is instantly cut because she’s too short. Liberty is asked a question but is soon cut because she’s been wordy but Emma has it all….looks and the right attitude. Simpson sees Emma in the little purple dress and asks if she knows what she’s getting herself into. Emma says that being a Purple Dragon girl is going to give her confidence and plus she knows all about marketing from Simpson’s MI classes. As the tournament begins the girls are introduced on the main stage. After this Emma is working the floor. Liberty calls her a cell out while Danny and Derek cat call and are impressed at her. Damian is also impressed and he and Emma have a public smooch. Manny later comments she saw the kiss and while yes she’s pro Emma and Damian she wants to know if she’ll break it off with Sean who is at boot camp right now. The head girl from the company then pulls Emma aside to reprimand her about the kiss telling her to be sassy on the cheek only please.

Sav complements Mia’s game in the first round and she gives him a lesson by taking him to the atrium and telling him she’s cold followed by how he should wrap his arms around a girl when she says this. He nods and does this and soon they kiss.

Bruce sees Emma and starts getting all lecherous toward her and she tosses the drink on him.

More tournaments come around and soon Holly J sees Mia telling her she heard about the kiss. Mia tells her it was Sav’s first and Holly J comments that it won’t be his last by days end.

The head girl tells Emma she should have poured the drink on herself and not Bruce cause sex sells. Emma nods making note of it before opening up a can of the drink. She’s told to NEVER drink the product cause it’s loaded with calories and just between her and Emma…..Emma’s dress is the largest size and she’d hate for it to get too tight. Obviously she didn’t know about Emma’s eating disorder but that comment kind of triggers her. In the one scene not at school, Emma is at home looking at her reflection in the mirror pinching her thighs and stomach. Simpson calls her to dinner and at first she says she’s not hungry but then says she’ll be there in a moment. She may or may not or relapsed off screen.

Mia and Sav win mixed doubles and Mia goes to kiss him. He pulls back thanking her but telling her he doesn’t like like her and there is someone else.

Emma is called to the stage to present another winner but goes into an anti-Purple Dragon rant which leads her to stripping down to her panties.

Mia sees Sav with Anya whom he likes for her sticker books apparently. Holly J says that while they don’t have much in common one thing for sure they both deserve men and not little boys.

Purple Dragon doesn’t plan to sever ties with the school and Emma only got two days detention for dress code violations. Manny is impressed and Emma tells her it’s time to let Sean know how she’s changed which I guess is code for her wanting to split up with him via e-mail.
