7x08 Jessie's Girl||recap

Jesse hangs up the phone at the Core office and wants the presses to be stopped and Ellie’s story to be dropped from the cover. He just got Bill Nye to be a guest speaker at the school for some big Q and A interview. Ellie’s pissed because he’s been promising her a cover spot and she worked her ass off. He tells her it’s just business and to take it for the team.

WHATEVER IT TAKES

Jesse is talking to a woman who has just bought ad space…or rather flirting. Ellie’s pissed some more at Jesse (seriously it’s getting to a point where she’s pissed at him more then not) and comments about how she thinks he has a thing for cougars (okay so they don’t say cougars but I don’t think that was a term yet when this episode aired initially so….) Jesse says he loves red heads with blue eyes….Ellie informs him she has green eyes and kisses him before telling him she wants to be taken seriously as an employee and not just as his girlfriend. Eric tells them that Bill Nye is out and Jesse is in panic mode. Well Ellie’s piece can take the cover slot but what about the speaker….Ellie says she can help with that

Anya asks Mia if she knows where her locker buddy Holly J is. Mia doesn’t know and soon Anya complements Mia’s outfit. Holly J shows up and hopes Anya wasn’t giving Mia any trouble. She also complements Mia’s outfit but then turns it into a snarky mean girl remark instead. Anya agrees and makes said mean remark back parroting Holly J before heading off.

Ellie got Caitlin to be the speaker and Jesse is fanboying over her. The Caitlin Ryan….here in his office….why didn’t he know that she was Ellie’s mentor. Ellie then tells Jesse that she’s going to moderate the Q & A cause it was Caitlin’s idea.

In science which must be a multi-grade class since it has grade ten and eleven students in it, Holly J tells Derek he has something on his face….UGLY. Anya laughs at the joke and after the disruption the teacher calls on Anya to read. She’s stumbling on her words and Holly J publically calls her friend out on being dyslexic. Mia asks if Anya wants to be her partner for an assignment but Holly J tells her Anya is always with her.

Jesse is all upset that Ellie gets to run the show. Ellie says that he may not be doing that but he should go to some reception being held and get to know Caitlin. She can’t go because she needs to work on her questions. At the University House however as Ellie tries to work later on in the day, it’s chaos as Griffin and the engineering students are having. Deciding to go to the Core for some quiet she’s shocked to find a drunk Jesse hooking up with Caitlin. Jesse apologizes saying they were drunk and flirting and he wants to talk about them. Ellie tells him they are no longer an US and quits the paper.

Holly J asks Anya if she plans on hanging out with Sav and the guys after school. Anya can’t cause she needs to work on the essay….Holly J said she wanted an A. Holly J tells him the teacher is stupid and gives the assignment every year and that Anya should take the paper and just retype it……. And this plot hole is just bugging the crap out of me because Holly J went to Lakehurst and was a student there since back before Mia transferred to Degrassi in season six yet Heather was a student at Degrassi cause Paige and others mentioned her. My theory on how this hole (and the fact that the transfers never went back to Lakehurst) is that Degrassi is or at least at one point was a Magnet school (though who would willingly want their kids to go there with all the drama is anyone’s guess) while Lakehurst was a public school which is why the sisters initially went to different schools at the same time frame (I like to assume Holly J was a Lakehurst Freshman while Heather was a Degrassi Senior) then WHEN Lakehurst was re-built the Bhandari’s kept Sav at Degrassi and enrolled Alli there too, Holly J, Anya, Johnny, Bruce, and Jane also stayed while all the other underclassman transfers ended up going back to the other school) Like I said just a theory now back to the episode. Anya is wary about cheating and tells Holly J she doesn’t like her talking about the dyslexia and mentions how she never talks to anyone about how Holly J has a private tutor. Holly J soon starts to ask another girl to eat lunch with her and Anya tells her that she is okay with cheating and will do it.

Paige is looking at her closet for an outfit for Ellie to wear to the interview. Ellie tells her that she saw Caitlin kissing Jesse and Paige can’t believe they went out with that pig. Ellie tells Paige she’s still seeing him (what about her being done with ‘Us’) she tells her that Caitlin was one of Jesse’s free five and its okay. She then says she should back out of the interview because she thinks maybe the kiss is Karma for her taking it from Jesse in the first place. Paige tells her the Q & A is a once in a lifetime deal and shouldn’t back out.

In class the next day Holly J tells the teacher the essay Anya turned in is plagiarized and that despite being partners she took the liberty of doing the paper on her own.

Ellie is drinking pre-interview. Caitlin approaches and tells her she’s sorry about the other night but that Jesse has nothing but nice things to say about Ellie’s work. Caitlin has to leave for a mic check leading Ellie to drink some more. By the time the Q & A happens Ellie ends up publically breaking down asking Jesse if it was worth it and asking Caitlin WHY and calling her a slut. The next day, hung over, Ellie gets a visit from Caitlin. Caitlin asks why Ellie did what she did and Ellie tells her that Jesse is her boyfriend but didn’t want to tell her cause she knows dating her boss is unprofessional.

Mia sees Anya and tells her that at least she’s free from Holly J who seconds later asks if Anya wants to join her at a party which Anya says yes. Mia asks why she puts up with Holly J’s abuse and Anya point blank says it beats spending her Friday Nights alone.

Ellie is back at the Core and tells Jesse she’s back at the paper but over him for good and that they need to just keep it professional.
