The episode opens with Manny (now back as a brunette)
practicing dancing with her cousin. She’s practicing for her ‘Debut’ it’s a
family tradition for her eighteenth birthday though she’d rather just hit up a
karaoke club. She’s told all the family
will be there and that they give her money which will go to pay for university.
Her dad says if she doesn’t want to waltz with her cousin he’d gladly step in
and she shakes her head. Her cousin is fine.
WHATEVER IT TAKES
Manny comments about how ugly her dress is and how her dad
fell for her mom in it she’d never know. Emma tells her to look on the bright
side that at least her dad is letting her borrow his car. Manny laughs saying
how Canadian of you. She explains that Emma’s family always talks about things
but Manny….her dad just barks orders and
people obey….what’s that have to do with being Canadian….no clue but
Manny soon crashes into a trash barrel and has a fender bender….she’s toast.
Jimmy comments to Ashley how when their demo gets picked up
he wants to draw the cover art and shows her some sketches. Ashley tells her he
should lower his expectations and he nods saying who wants to hear music from a
gimp anyway. He then explains he’s starting a new physical therapy program and
he’s gearing up for rejection.
The girls head to the garage and ask Jay where his boss is.
He tells them he’s working because since Sean left they’ve been short staffed.
He asks Emma if she’s heard from him and Emma shakes her head. Jay says it’ll
take a few days and Manny tells him that she needs it in hour’s cause her dad
is coming to Degrassi for a college prep thing and she needs the car to be in
the lot. She explains that she’s about to come into allot of money….. As it’s a
Pilipino birthright and Jay agrees to do the work and to drive them back to
campus.
Jimmy is in his new PT and it’s rough. A girl, tells him to
not be so rough on himself. She’s not a therapist she’s a social work student
at TU. He’s still in High School because of reasons. He asks her how she can
judge him after three minutes and she stands up on crutches saying that he
looked like he could use a friend.
Manny’s dad asks Miss H if she has any scholarships for BS
programs. Her dad tells her she’s studying science so long as he’s paying for
it and that acting is merely a hobby and not a viable career. After the seminar
outside on the steps her mom tells her dad that she thought they talked about
it. He nods saying how he doesn’t like Manny being defiant first about the
debut now with school. Manny points out where the car is and hands them the
keys that Jay tosses her.
Ashley asks how PT went as Jimmy is asking about the demo
and why his rap wasn’t on it and how he hopes that she didn’t send it off that
way. Ashley admits she did. When Craig’s album dropped she wanted to prove
herself. She put her music aside for Craig but as jimmy points out she tossed
him aside for her music. He tells her she’s the biggest disappointment in his
life.
Manny thanks Jay for the car. And Manny tells him how she
hates how he thinks everything she does is wrong. Jay teases she should stay
away from him because he’s daddy hate bait and she invites him to be her date
for the debut….she’ll pay double. He’s in and she invites him to meet her
parents first and to look as grimy as possible. Jay shows up dressed in his
work cloths. He spills and wipes things down with a shammy. Manny lets her dad
know that not only did he not graduate he was expelled. Jay smiles and says how
his boss is teaching him the business and how he didn’t graduate High School
either but started from nothing and now has a nice house and a Jag and a lush
wife. Her dad is impressed with his goals and his honest hard work. Manny
comments about how it’s not the type of guy she thought he’d date but he
actually likes Jay much to her dismay to try to piss him off.
Jimmy’s back at PT and tells the girl her being hard on him
was just what he needed to get back. Her name is Trina and she’s in the
facility because she had a rock climbing accident two years ago that left her paralyzed.
Jimmy tells him that it was a school shooting. Ripped from the headlines. She
asks what people think. He wishes he had a dime for every time people said he
may be in a chair but he’s the same person. He’s not the same. Trina says he
was given a second chance so he should grab at life.
Manny gives a presentation for science class and Emma says
maybe she could act as a scientist to have it both ways.
Ashley tells Jimmy that she re-added the track and he should
give the CD to Griffin. She knows he hates her but the music is more important..
The Debut. Jay cleans up GOOD!!!!!!The parents are
introduced and Manny tells him that she’s paid him to piss off his dad not
impressing him. Manny then tells him that they should put on a show and act
like a happy doting couple.
Jimmy plays the song to Griffin who comments about the chair
and asks if Jimmy has a name picked out for himself to symbolize him and the
chair. He asks if that’s all he is just some wheelchair novelty act. Jimmy then
tells Griffin he can talk to Ashley because he’s over it.
Manny introduces Jay to his family as her boyfriend and she
starts to tell people that she’s going to blow university and move away with
Jay. His dad asks why she’s acting this way and Manny’s glad that he’s noticed that’s
what she’s doing and she plans on doing it for her career. She then starts
hanging with Emma and the others.
Jimmy is talking to Trina about PT and he shows her he’s
been practicing getting up on crutches. He stands but he falls over before
making a step. He’s sorry he didn’t impress her. She says stand up.
Her parents tell Manny she can make her own choices as far
as school goes and he says she can study acting but she has to take at least a
couple science classes as back up. They dance and he tells her how proud he is
of how she’s grown up.
