5x04 Foolin’-recap

I’d started to watch/recap this before but only got to the cold open and never saved my draft….anyway so it opens with JT giving Liberty his keys for a driving lesson even though she hasn’t gotten her learners. She drives pretty good and JT comments that he wants to celebrate….with condoms. Liberty isn’t in the mood needing to get into school to judge the people auditioning for video announcements. JT wonders why since school started Liberty’s been distant.

WHATEVER IT TAKES

Liberty shows up to the studio with JT who wants to audition to do the announcements. Liberty doesn’t think JT should do it as she doesn’t think it’s a responsible career path. JT just nods but tells Toby who is helping run auditions that he’ll be back to do so tomorrow.

Spinner is in Kwan’s class and gets a good grade on a paper being passed back. Considering he’s been held back in grade eleven and re-taking grade 10 English like he did last year I’m sure the grade is due to repeating previous material. Darcy asks Spinner if he has any tips to getting a higher grade in the class and that leads them to start to talk. She asks about him failing and he says how sick his dog was and she laughs at his lying.

JT asks Toby if they can hang and then JT brings up his highly active sex life hoping it will stop making Liberty uptight.

Spinner pleads with Jimmy for a second chance only to be shot down. After this he sees Darcy and tells her the truth about everything. She’s heard about it just not Spinner’s involvement and then invites him to a meeting after school.

Simpson complements Liberty about her presidential accomplishments and JT comes into the room. He asks her what she’s doing and he tells her that she’s not doing work like she wants but is going with him and friends to a movie night.

Spinner shows up to the meeting and notices students are sitting in a circle. The meeting is for Friendship Club a student prayer group and as you wonder if this is a cult episode no.

JT and Liberty go to the theater where Emma and Toby meet up with them. As Liberty is ordering snacks JT starts to talk to Toby using sex puns. Liberty tossed her food at him and leaves. The following day JT picks Liberty up and they are having an argument about how controlling Liberty is being. She tells him how he’s made choices too and reminds him of the summer when they used the king sized condoms that slipped off. He nods and she tells him that she’s pregnant causing JT to crash his car into a city bus stop in front of the school. They were okay and no one else was hurt. Miss H comes to ask if they were okay and regarding the crash she comments ‘Accidents Will Happen’ which is a highly interesting Easter Egg since that’s the title of the last teen pregnancy episode….you know the one with Manny’s abortion which when this episode initially aired still hadn’t aired in the US I don’t think.

Manny, Emma, and Toby are looking out the window during Simpson’s class as Liberty and JT finish talking to the cops. They get into class and JT asks how long she’s known…she’s three months along. She hasn’t been tested but she just knows all the signs are there…..morning sickness….frequent urination…..

Darcy asks Spinner why he baled and he was taken aback that the club was a Christian club. Darcy tells her just because she’s a Christian doesn’t mean she’s boring….she can kick his butt in laser tag; she likes horror movies and ends up setting a coffee date.

JT goes to the drug store to pick up a test for Liberty to take noticing a Help Wanted sign as he checks out. After getting the test he waits for Liberty to take it as Danny arrives. He comments how Liberty is always in the bathroom.. Danny walks away and Liberty comes out with the pee stick. It’s positive.

The Next day JT shows up for the audition and Toby tells him about how Heather Sinclair (#18) just auditioned with a booger coming out of her nose. JT gives his audition and chokes royally.  Liberty tells JT ‘well that went great’ and that she’ll have to tell Heather Sinclair (#19) she has the job. Liberty then tells JT that she’ll be the one to take care of everything….the doctor’s appointments, telling the parents….. JT sees Toby after school racing an RC car and tells him about Liberty….he crashes the car. Toby tells him okay there are groups; the guidance counselor…..JT says that the bigger problem is Liberty who doesn’t want anything to do with him.

Darcy shows up for the date with a mix tape. It’s not the kind of music that he’d suspect a ‘Christian Girl’ to listen to. Spinner then tells her how he used to be in kiddy beauty pageants and was Little Mr. Handsome ages 4-6. Jimmy arrives telling Darcy to be careful as Spinner tends to get his friends shot.

JT asks Liberty again if he can do the announcements. Liberty tells him that she can’t trust him with the announcements…the pregnancy….and so he breaks up with her.

Spinner tells Darcy to save it he’s heard all the criticism before about last year. He knows it’s his fault but he wants to move past things. Darcy tells him she likes him despite it all.

JT comes back to Liberty telling her about the drug store job that he got and that even if she doesn’t want him to he wants to help her out. He doesn’t want to abandon her or the baby. She tells him how she’s never needed help on anything which is BS because back in season one didn’t she need the Math help for her learning disability and wasn’t that brought up again last season?
