I am not going to go into the fact that I am a strong believer
that if a show is lucky enough to make it to four seasons that it’s 20th
episode should at least have some pot reference going for it. While there is no
weed in sight however this episode as well as the finale (and a season five
outing and season eight movie) feature Degrassi super fan Kevin Smith as well
as his stoner alter ego Silent Bob (along with Jason Mewes as ‘Jay’ from that
franchise….)
The episode opens as the spirit squat is rehearsing for the year
end assembly. They are doing Manny’s choreography and Paige steps up saying how
she’s proud of things. She and Manny start to get into things verbally.
WHATEVER IT TAKES
Manny tells Emma and Toby (yea remember him…..who seemed to
vanish after the shooting arch and losing one of his only friends?) that if she
peed in the hall Paige would take the credit for giving her water and hates how
Paige has been pretty much AWOL from the squad for the last few months leaving
Manny to take charge and now she’s reaping the credit. Toby also kind of sort
of asks Manny out to Prom. She tries to brush him off however Marco saves her
telling Toby he’s Manny’s date. Manny asks whose coming….them, Jimmy, Hazel….and
Paige is bringing Matt (Mr.). Manny wants to come but she doesn’t want bad
blood. Hazel suggests that Manny meet them dress shopping.
Caitlin is interviewing Kevin Smith about his new movie ‘Jay and
Silent Bob Go Canadian…..Eh’. He mentions how he is looking for locals to shoot
at. After the interview Caitlin introduces Kevin to Craig. They suggest Kevin
scout out the school preferably on Friday because he and his girlfriend are playing
prom. Kevin gives him his music producer’s card and says if he can give him Emo
he might have a job.
Paige and Hazel are trying on dresses and Paige steps out of the
dressing room to see Manny in the same one. AWKWARD!!!!!
Craig arrives at the garage and wants Ashley to get behind her
piano to practice because he has news. Ashley has news of her own….her dad got
her an internship in London. Craig tells them her that she may not need it
cause if Kevin likes them they could be working on the movie.
Matt and Paige are having dinner where Matt has just told Paige
how he has a summer job in the Yukon planting trees. He’s broke and desperate
and its $400 a day and free rent. He’s going to miss prom.
Marco tells Manny that he can’t be her date because Paige’s
boyfriend has left her and she needs him but he promises to vote her for queen.
Darcy calls to Manny that Paige is having trouble with one of
the new moves and Paige is all ready to change it. Manny offers to help her learn
and Paige tells her it’s not necessary that instead Manny can be the new mascot
because for some reason JT isn’t there to be the panther. Hazel comments that
the assembly is in two hours and she’s never been a flyer Paige tells her to
stuff it.
Manny is cleaning out her locker purging herself of yet another
rough year. Darcy says she wishes they could purge Paige and the two conspire
to kick the queen bee down a couple pegs.
School’s out for summer and Caitlin has taken Kevin to scope out
the pep rally. The squad does their routine (whose stock music is played with routines
through the series) and Darcy drops Paige causing her to break her leg.
Craig and Ashley share
their music and are told ‘This is a Buddy/Love Story not some place for some
winy girl impersonating Kate Bush accompanied by some Bon Jovi wannabes’ in
other words he didn’t like them.
Manny and Emma are trying on dresses. Manny is wearing a
depressing black dress as she looks at the pink one she can’t get cause of
Paige. Emma comments that Paige busted her leg and that the pink one is the
most Manny-est dress ever and she HAS to get it for the formal.
At the dance Darcy tells Manny she feels terrible for what they
did and Manny tells Darcy they can vote her for queen to clear their conscience.
Paige, Marco, Hazel, and Jimmy arrive at the dance and Paige
goes off on a rant about how bad all the end of the year dances have been.
Hazel then lashes out on her about how bad Paige has been to Manny and how she
deserved what she got.
Manny awkwardly dances with Toby but gets Emma to dance with him
instead.
Caitlin takes Kevin to the dance.
Manny sees Paige decided to come to the dance anyway and Paige
is livid that Manny wore the dress.
Craig and Ashley are playing their set while Paige stuffs the ballot
box to make Manny win. After the set…Ashley tells Craig that he’s going to miss
him but she has to go to England for her. She’s always wanted to go since she
was a kid and it’s been her dream. And there is another Heather Reference (#17)
Marco announces the King and Queen. Jimmy is King and Manny is
Queen. Paige comes on stage and rips off Manny’s dress and she flies off stage
and into Kevin’s arms. As he catches her he says he’s totally going to shoot
there.
Kevin sees Craig brooding and gives him a pep talk. He tells Craig
even when he writes the script he always ends up with Jay….sometimes a Monkey
and tells Craig that he should write a song for the movie….it’s his movie not
his music producers.
Paige brings Manny pins to fix her dress. The two girls go back
and forth over everything they did to one another over the year. After the spat
Manny tells Paige not to drink anything because the girls went out for laxatives.
And that thankfully it was now summer.
