14 x 11/12 FIRESTARTER

The episode opens as Frankie is reading over the draft of her father’s speech for a young voter’s conference. The siblings are chuckling at all the teen lingo peppered in and if you didn’t see any prior episodes you’d think they were a pretty normal family in the moment. Miles Sr comments that he should fire his assistant and hire Frankie. Said assistant shows up and in talking about current events the degrassi nude scandal comes up…daddy Hollingsworth is shocked and appalled. Miles tells Frankie she may have their father fooled but not him…he knows that she was a part of Degrassi nudes and she needs to find a scapegoat before it ruins their dad’s campaign.

WHATEVER IT TAKES

Degrassi is hosting the cheer competition and Zig and Tiny are working the check in booth ogling at all the visiting cheerleaders. They tell Maya and Grace with all the drama going on they needed volunteers and it has its benefits. Zig then tells the girls $20 he can get any cheerleaders number….Maya and Grace then up the anti-saying that there is one girl that is their mark and if Zig and/or Tiny loose they have to dress in a uniform and cheer in front of their guests.

Frankie and Winston are walking past cheerleaders getting questioned by the police. Winston says he bets Frankie’s happy the girls are getting their comeuppance however Frankie is ghostly white she says she’s nervous about the assembly but she’s really worried about the scandal.  They go to class and the teacher says it will be a study hall instead of a lab because of the questioning. Shay and Lola say they played dumb and are sorry they let Zoe bully Frankie…Frankie then suggest they turn on Zoe and tell the cops she forced them to do it.

The parents are talking to Simpson and the student government about the scandal…Clare says if they canceled events due to rumors there would be no victory…then Mrs. Baker turns around and slut shames Clare for being with child

Tiny and Zig both play at getting the girls number.

Frankie and the squad tell Zoe that she should take all the blame so the team has a shot at nationals…she says okay… if the squad wants to force blame on one person that’s fine by her.

Clare is freaking out telling Alli and Jenna she was hoping to make it to graduation with a low profile and not be judged like some trashy teen mom like Jenna had been…no offence. Simpson then asks to speak to Clare and Clare apologizes to him about the meeting and admits to him that she really is with child. He tells her about how Christine was a teen mom and she turned out fine. Clare needs to go for her dreams despite outsiders thoughts.

Winston gives Frankie the nametags for the voter summit before showing her an article on Face range saying that SHE not ZOE was the one behind it all. Frankie wonders if it was the one blackmailing the team however Winston says it wasn’t and admits that HE was the one that was sending those Pretty Little Liars esque messages to the other girls to try and help put an end to things.  Frankie says he’s a dumb boy not a hero and things wouldn’t have blown up if he didn’t meddle.

More of the Zig flirting with the cheerleader subplot. She tells him it’s nice that the guys are so classy unlike the girls who are sending nudes for money and begins to slut shame Zoe…Zig defends his crush blowing his chances at getting the girls number.

Zoe tells Frankie that she wanted one person to get the blame and now one person will. If it gets out that she did it all the drama of her rape will come to the surface and it will get ugly while Frankie’s parents will just bail her out with media spin. Life just isn’t fair.

Then we get Claire’s creepy nightmare scene… I tried to repress this let’s just say she’s picturing herself barefoot and pregnant, with two other children and married to SIMPSON….
Yeesh

Miles Senior is giving his summit at the school thanking Frankie for organizing the event…meanwhile Frankie is trying to get Hunter to hack into face range to take Zoe’s post down… it would take too long and Hunter says she should just tell his father. At this same time, at the Q & A portion a woman asks how he can control the city when he can’t control his kid…he asks what Miles did however the lady points out Frankie and the scandal…again dad is shocked and Hunter tells her now she has zero options.

Zig tells the girls and Tiny how he lost and Maya teases how Zig still loves Zoe…all is not lost…well it is lost for the boys as Grace got her number…Maya didn’t know she was gay (sidebar I REALLY wish TIIC made Grace Bisexual) Grace says she’s not she just wanted to see the boys in miniskirts and hands them the uniforms.

Clare wants to talk to her mother about her education and brings up her nightmare…she can’t put off her education…her due date isn’t until December (it’s sometime post spring break in the time line at this point) and she’s not talking about Columbia…she’s thinking about taking journalism at a more local university that way her friends and family can babysit. Helen agrees to the compromise.

There are three days left of the campaign and Miles Senior’s assistant is working with him and Frankie with damage control. Frankie admits to being involved in sending just ONE nude though she wasn’t the mastermind. Daddy is pissed that his little girl did that and tells her she needs to go to the press and admit to everything and hope it blows over by the weekend.

Zig and Tiny do their little cheer and Zoe asks if he’s mocking her. Zig says he’s not and if she didn’t give him the cold shoulder she’d know he was a nice guy and he asks if he can spectate…she says yes.
Frankie is MIA and not on the steps giving a statement. She’s with Winston breaking down telling him she’s sorry and he was right the world is unfair and she wants to make Zoe pay.

TBC…

Part Two opens at the cheer competition. It’s 9am on a Saturday and Clare is pretty chipper due to her talk with her mother about deferring a semester and going to a local school the following spring. Ali brings up the nagging question of what if Eli finds out the truth? What will his say in the matter be if he comes in with a grand gesture to win her back.

Zoe is all excited because they are so close to winning regionals. Shay asks if she made the page and Zoe said it was a means to an end and that she was only doing what she needed to protect them after all Frankie is rich she can take care of herself. Zoe hands the girls new bows purchased with the last of their blood money and is ready to cheer

I KNOW I CAN MAKE IT THROUGH

Miles is playing a video game and Hunter asks if he saw Frankie…she’s allegedly at their grandparents and soon the two brothers argue about Frankie and their dad….Miles eggs him on and Miles Senior breaks barware and Hunter gets a front row seat for their fathers rage.

Imogen is so excited to watch Jack cheer and invites Eli to join her however Eli wants to be nowhere near Clare and besides he works till five and is wanting to work on his foam art skills. Imogen lets it slip that she overheard Ali and Jenna talking in the washroom saying Eli is the baby daddy of Clare’s spawn causing him to run out of the Dot.

Miles tells mama Hollingsworth how their dad hit him and tossed a mug in Hunter’s general direction.  Mom and Hunter brush things off and Miles is none too pleased.

The cheer competition goes on as Zoe gets a text from Zig wishing her good luck. She knows she was wrong for screwing Frankie but she’s glad the squad stood by her. They encourage her to meet up with Zig in the hall.

Ali and Clare are talking about concessions and how they might have lost more than they made as Eli shows up asking why she never told him. Clare says she tried but he called her a whore before she got the chance. He apologizes and tells her he’s here for her and offers to help, to take her to classes…anything. Clare says he’s volatile and she can’t trust him.

Miles needs his dad to listen…he doesn’t want an apology he wants his dad to move into a hotel and dad tells Miles it’s HIS fault for Frankie’s spiral and Miles is about to punch his dad but backs down.

Zoe goes into the drama room to meet up with Zig however the lights go out and she’s locked in. She reaches for her phone to call for help when a hooded figure grabs her phone. She’s told that the figure warned her to quit or else…this is the or else.

Degrassi is up next… in a pinch they see Becky in the crowd and ask if her leg is better.

Miles is walking down the hall freaking out looking for the twins and asks Maya if she saw them. Maya says she’s been working on the sound and Miles asks if she can give his siblings a note. It’s a goodbye letter because it would be better off if he leaved town. He hates his dad and knows his family would be better off without him in town. He picks up a poster for his dads conference and lights it on fire in anger…the fire catches onto a display and the starts to spread.

The figure continues to torture Zoe asking why she started Degrassi nudes. Winston reveals he was the blackmailer and Frankie at least this time was acting as accomplice. Zoe is about to leave the room but the knob is hot as the fire rages on outside causing the trio to be trapped.

Power Cheer does the routine with Becky taking the lead however mid cheer the fire alarm goes off and the gym is evacuated.

Then we get to where the season begins…everyone is running down the smoky hallway looking for Frankie who is locked with Zoe and Winston in the drama room trying to prevent smoke inhalation while airing their grievances.

The brothers meet Frankie who was rescued taking her to be checked out. Zig gets to Zoe and Zoe says she needs to take care of something and Zig and everyone is better without her. She goes to the cop on site and tells him she has something to tell him.

Eli shows up concerned about Clare and the fire and gives her money, a pamphlet about prenatal programs and his stuffed wolf from his childhood. He’s serious and wants to be a part of his son’s life. Clare agrees the baby should know his dad and she admits she could use help.

Daddy Hollingsworth shows up saying he’s glad that she’s done bailing on responsibility for the day and has no concern that Frankie almost died. Hunter admits that she saw how abusive their dad is toward Miles and the siblings stand their ground saying they will only go home if their mom gets them. Miles leaves the twins to talk to Maya and thanks her for always believing in him. The Hollings-sibs then walk off camera to grab a bite to eat and the first half the season is wrapped up pretty tightly.
