13x20 No Surprises

The episode opens in the Hollingsworth pool (insert another jibe about how Toronto has weather here) as he asks Maya to hop on in with him. Maya claims she has no suit and so he rips off his trunks and coaxes her into stripping down and skinny dipping which she actually does. Everything is fine until Miles’s dad shows up in the yard with his campaign manager (who side note is the woman who helped Clare back when Asher was harassing her which seems like a lifetime ago) Maya leaves and Mr. Hollingsworth tells his son that now isn’t the time for him to be cavorting with girls.

WHATEVER IT TAKES

The Hollingsworth family is having breakfast/brunch the next day and Miles is getting the cold shoulder for being caught the day before. Mr. Hollingsworth commends Frankie and Hunter for being shining examples as to what good kids look like. He leaves and Miles tells his mom he’s trying..he hasn’t gotten in trouble since Paris and how he wishes his dad saw he wasn’t a screw up…his mom simply tells him to try harder.

Alli and Dallas are getting ready to go to the Regional Science Fair and are sitting down talking while Dallas’s son Rocky watches on. Rocky asks his daddy for a cookie and as he does Alli shows the boy a cool science trick involving a bottle of water and a ketchup packet (you had to be there)

Clare tells Jenna she’s decided to go bungee jumping to celebrate six months of remission (which I did the math and presuming 13A ended in August/September it’s still January/February in verse despite the sundresses and skinny dipping scenes)  She’s booked four tickets and asks Jenna if she and Conner would like to go before skyping Eli however sadly Eli’s planned visit is a no go as he has to work on a student film. Jenna asks if they are canceling and Clare says no, just rescheduling cause long distance relationships are tough.

Maya worries that Miles’s dad thinks she’s a bad influence however he tells her that it’s just the dad doesn’t like him. Once again like his mom, Maya tells him to try harder and suggests he help his dads campaign and perhaps after the election they can skinny dip again.

After a student council meeting, Dallas asks Jenna if Alli is seeing anyone new since Leo. Jenna says she’s on a romantic hiatus and Conner assures Dallas he’s a much better suitor overall. As Dallas walks off Clare tells the couple that if they reschedule they’ll lose the deposit on bungee jumping but it’s cool…Conner just invited Drew who said yes though Clare isn’t as happy. She admits to Jenna (and Conner who is still in earshot) about the kiss back in October during Thanksgiving. Jenna teases that if Clare backs out it might make Drew think she has feelings and so she agrees to let him be the fourth.

Miles, Maya, and Winston are working on campaign things as Miles wants to show his dad that he’s proactive. He steps out into the pool area to get his father to show him his work only to find him flirting with Andrea.

The following day, Miles shows Maya an expensive necklace that he plans to leave for Andrea with a note saying it’s from his dad. Maya thinks the plan is going to blow up in Mile’s face.

Alli shows up to the lab and there is a gift basket from Dallas to her on the table. Dallas thought Alli could use some TLC and then afterwards a date…Alli admits she can’t and walks out.

At the Bungee Jump place they are getting ready to jump when it’s revealed they are going on a tandem jump and Clare gets hooked pretty closely toward Drew. They make their jump and you hear a splash. Soon they are walking out of the place that clearly has signs posted all around saying YOU WILL GET WET as Drew is commenting about Clare neglecting to tell him that they were going to be soaked. Drew comments his ears are ringing but it’s Eli. Clare tells her she’ll call when she gets home. Getting in the car, Drew tells Clare she should get out of her wet cloths so she doesn’t get sick and takes off her shirt putting on her sweater. Drew doesn’t have another shirt but asks Clare to dinner. In a panic she says no she wants to go home and take a cold shower…no just a regular shower and asks that he ride back with Jenna and Conner.

As the Hollingsworths are about to do a mock interview, Miles watches as Andrea looks at her gift. They are asked to tell something about their dad. Frankie says he gets upset when she beats him at Monopoly while Miles just says in such a fake guy. He’s then asked how his dad has influenced him and Miles says how his dad’s helped him juggle…work, activities, affairs….Business affairs, Miles Sr clarifies while trying to move the questions on to Hunter. Miles storms out and his mom follows him out asking what’s wrong and Miles tells her his dad is cheating. She says it’s not Miles’s problem and she’ll handle it…just after the election.

Dallas shows up at Alli’s to explain himself. He loves being partners with her and thinks they make a great team and only wished they’d be more. Alli says he’s a great guy but….she then admits about how Leo beat her and she’s still recovering emotionally. It’s reveiled he’s heading back to France and even if Dallas retaliated it wouldn’t fix things.

Miles and Maya are talking more about how Miles’s mom knew about things and hasn’t said anything. He’s over his family and the only thing that matters is Maya. He tells her he loves her and she tells him she loves him too…allot.
