12x15/16 Never Ever RECAP

Like I said before this follows up the Fiona/Imogen plot from Imogen’s POV in a massive and somewhat heartbreaking way as the episode opens with her showing her dad her armature for the sets. Mr. Moreno comments about how small it is and asks if Eli is directing a play for ants…. Kidding. He complements about her eye for detail and she comments how he stored his car keys in the crisper before giving a piece of her apple to Volta. Her dad comments about her feeding people food to the dog and Imogen comments how he likes it before coming to present it to Eli. Eli is blown away by her design but worries that it’s too much to do on such a short timetable. Imogen is insanely dedicated and vows to get it done with time to spare. He asks how much it’ll cost and she tells him $500. He tells her she’ll either have to scale back unless she can find someone with money to sponsor and Imogen smiles knowing just the someone in mind.

WHAEVER IT TAKES

Katie’s in the garden watering plants as she’s singing along to the music from her headphones. PS The song is You Oughta Know which is the episode title for 13x11 though it’s doubtful that the events of this episodes B plot have much to do with that episode since two of the three parties involved aren’t around anymore. Jake approaches her commenting how he’s sure she sounds better in her head. Katie admits she knows she’s tone deaf and Maya constantly reminds her of this before Jake takes her to the corner of the garden to show her some of the plants that are sprouting. Katie can’t believe she did that and how she’s getting so much self-satisfaction from watching the plants grow. Jake teases that it beats washing down computer monitors and she nods. She tells him how she was in such an odd place at the beginning of the year and by year I again assume she means calendar not school year though again to be fair at the start of the school year it was the drug mess so maybe she does in fact mean that who knows. She tells Jake about how she just feels so relaxed and free of anyone’s expectations and she thanks Jake for that. Jake reminds her how the garden was her idea and that she should thank herself as she smiles and they work more on tending to the plants.

Fiona’s helping Imogen put on contacts to go visit her mom to ask for the $500. Fiona asks why the torture and Imogen tells her that her dad wears glasses and so if she wears them her mom will be reminded of him and won’t give her the cash. She says her mom left her and her dad when she was eight and is a top notch spinal surgeon with a brand new Stepford family. She goes to a dinner with them once a month whenever she can’t find an excuse to skip out.

Jenna greets Becky who is raising money for hurricane relief as Conner approaches asking if this is where he can get a ticket for the musical. Adam nods putting up a sign and Becky comments asking them to conduct their business elsewhere. Adam tells Becky he has the table signed out for the week and Becky flips out saying nice try hassling the new girl but early bird gets the worm. Jenna tells Becky no….the table needed to be signed out and she’d thought Becky did that.

Imogen shows up at the hospital during lunch hour and Natalie wants to grab sandwiches from the machine talk about what’s going on with Imogen and how her dad is. Imogen reluctantly agrees because she knows this will get her the money.

Becky vents to Luke how there are people in need however all people care about is this blasphemous musical that glorifies alternative lifestyles. Luke tells her to just ignore it or better yet use her voice and do something about it because she uses her mouth for everything else.

Natalie comments about Imogen picking off her crust before asking about her dad again. She wants to know if he’s making breakfast for them and if they need a housekeeper. Imogen says she’s seventeen and can take care of herself. Natalie says if she needs anything to call and this is when she brings up the musical and how she needs $500 to build her dream set for it. Imogen takes the money and starts walking to school Natalie calls her out saying that the next time she visits it would be nice if it wasn’t just for a handout.

Katie told Marisol she’s in love with Jake and Marisol is excited about it as visions of double dates are running through her head however Katie quickly quells the other girl’s excitement. Jake hasn’t made a move and she thinks that to him she’s just his gardening buddy and he doesn’t feel the same way she feels for him and even if he did like her she worries about the inevitable. They’ll date….he’ll cheat on her like Drew did and their friendship will be done. The bell rings for class to being and Miss Cohen the science teacher comes in. Marisol tells Katie she’s working with Mo so she should ask Jake to be her partner. Katie shakes her head and decides to pair up with a guy she has the least likely chance of falling for….Mike Dallas….you know cause he’s an Alpha Jock like Drew was and all.

The sets begin to be erected rather fast as ‘It’s Time’ by Imagine Dragons begin to play in the background which is a song that is the soundtrack for this episode. Fiona is pleased that Imogen got the materials and Imogen informs her that she has to sit through a Granger family meal now because of it but it’s worth it. Mo and Marisol enter the auditorium laughing about some man wondering around outside in a robe and as Imogen follows them to the window she notices it’s her dad. She tells Fiona that the man is her dad and she may slightly be embarrassed by him which is why Fiona’s never been invited over. She says how they sometimes go to brunch in robes and he always walks to dog in PJ’s. She starts talking about his absent mindedness and then turns around and invites Fiona over for dinner. Fiona asks about her plans with Natalie and Imogen comments how it’s not like Natalie hasn’t baled on her before.

Katie meets up with Dallas who is shooting golf balls in the hall. She rolls her eyes because they are supposed to be meeting to work on their project and Dallas says they are and that homework is always better when related to sports not that Katie would get it because she’s not a jock. Oh but he’s wrong and she informs him how she was like him but Soccer was her drug of choice…well before blowing her knee out. Dallas feels her pain and tells her his window is slowly closing too cause he realizes he’s most likely not NHL material but maybe he’ll take up golf. Katie comments about how some of his words remind him of the old her and he asks what about the present Katie….and is she dating ‘garden boy’. Katie informs him his name is Jake but she’s taking a relationship hiatus since Drew. Dallas asks if she’s heard he moved out and Katie nods amused that he’s living with Fiona and teases how it’s a sitcom waiting to happen. Dallas asks if she wants to go to the driving range after school but she says she’d rather just focus on the assignment.

Becky’s in the hall singing and trying to get people to deter from the play ticket table to get donations for her charities. Adam approaches her table and gives her a donation and asks she can tone things done. Becky shakes her head and says in this economic downturn there is just so much money to go around and Eli deserves none of it cause Karma she’s a B**** I can’t say Bitch out loud cause it would be unchristian like. Adam calls her out for using charity to get back at Eli.

Jake approaches  Katie and Marisol at their lockers and he tells Katie he has two tickets to a garden show and wonders if she’d help him pick up fertilizer with him. Katie says no cause she has homework and well  if this blog supported Gifs I’d be posting one of Katness Everdeen saying  I VOLUNTEER!!!!! Jake comments saying Marisol is making faces behind him isn’t she and Katie nods. Marisol comments why she didn’t say yes and Katie says it was going to buy manure not a real date and besides she’s kind of actually hitting things off with Dallas. Marisol wonders why she’ll give Dallas a shot and not Jake. Katie says after losing soccer, Drew, and the presidency she was flailing to find herself….she had the garden but now its complicated cause of Jake who only wants to shop for shit with her and so she wants to try something or rather someone new because Dallas is better than crap.

Imogen and Fiona are getting ready for dinner as Mr. Moreno shows up. Fiona is impressed because she’s been a slave to take out and her parents would never let her and Declan sing along to radio jingles as they thought it was low brow and silly. Imogen soon asks where Volta is and her dad says he’s in the yard. Imogen comments how he’s been outside all day he must be thirsty and they go outside to look for him. Imogen tells Fiona to get the car keys so they can go and drive around the neighborhood when she notices blood on the ground and sees that her dad ran over and killed the dog.

Katie and Dallas are shooting golf balls in the garden. She’s getting a rush being able to play a sport again with her knee not bugging her and suggests talking to Simpson about starting a golf team at Degrassi. Dallas invites Katie to come watch him at his game tomorrow and she says sure. Jake then shows up dropping the manure off with a look of jealousy on his face. He comments to Katie about how she said she had homework and she nods saying that’s what she and Dallas are doing…. Homework. You can hear Jake’s heart breaking as he walks away. Dallas asks if she’s sure he’s not her boyfriend and Katie says no they just built the garden together that’s all.

The animal control people are driving off after removing the dogs remains from the driveway and Mr. Moreno once again apologizes. Imogen nods and tells Fiona how Volta loved to lie in the driveway and people watch and anyone could have hit him if they weren’t paying attention and it was an accident. Fiona says she’s not worried about the fact that the dad hit the dog but the fact that he didn’t remember it. Natalie shows up and asks what happened because she canceled out on dinner.  Natalie wants Fiona to go and Imogen says she’s my girlfriend and she’s not going anywhere. This is the first time that Natalie found out Imogen liked girls and tells Fiona it was nice meeting her…..TBC

It’s a rainy morning the next day as Mr. Moreno pulls Imogen up to school asking if she’s still sad about Volta and how he’s sorry about it. Imogen wants to skip school to go to work with her dad because she’s worried about him. He tells her that he doesn’t need her help he knows his brain hasn’t been cooperating but he’s just been tired. Imogen is apparently swayed and climbs out to go to school and is promptly met by Eli chewing her out because she’s behind schedule on building the set and tech is fast approaching. He asks if she’s going to skip class to work on things because she practically begged him to do it and she better not back down or do things half assed.

I KNOW I CAN MAKE IT THROUGH

Eli asks if Imogen can skip out of class to work but Armstrong says no cause they are having a quiz he then says that Imogen can work after school but Mo tells him no she’s got band practice. Speaking of Mo, Marisol tells him that the guy in the robe was Imogen’s dad and they start laughing about it while she’s sitting right there. Eli’s trying to get her attention about the play but as she hears Marisol calling her dad crazy like she is Imogen snaps and whacks Marisol with a binder leading her out of the class and into the office.

Dallas asks Katie if she’s still interested in the tickets and she tells him maybe with a huge smile on her lips. Jake sees the exchange of energies and asks Katie if she’s really thinking about going. Katie tells him maybe not that it’s his business. Jake is bummed that she took another guy to ‘their place’ however Katie is quick to point out the garden is public property. He tells her if she doesn’t wish to hang with him she should just say it and my heart is seriously breaking with Jake’s and I just want to give him a hug. Katie tells him Dallas is a decent guy when you get to know him and they share common interests and Jake has no right to police who she hangs out with cause he’s not her dad and they aren’t dating. Jake comments how a jock broke her heart and he finds it odd she’s chasing another one and Katie snaps saying she’s made up her mind she will go to the game and Jake is a jealous baby. Um sweetie you wanted a sign he likes you there is a flashing red one right there.

Simpson asks what Imogen’s deal was with Marisol and she chalks it up to stress. He tells her he’s going to schedule her some counseling but agrees to do it after the play but first he needs to call her dad. She coxes him to call Natalie instead even though she’s not on her emergency card.

Jenna asks Becky how the fundraising goes and she tells her it doesn’t matter, this is dirty money and Adam was right that she was only doing this as a form of petty revenge and Becky starts to take down her display.

Imogen asks Natalie what the damage is and Natalie says she’s not getting suspended and that she told Simpson about Volta among other things. She then tells Imogen how her and her dad talked and that they have been allot. She informs Imogen that her father has early onset dementia and it’s getting worse and worse. She explains that sooner rather than later he’ll have to retire early get a caregiver and eventually move into a nursing home however Imogen is willing to give up school and a future to stand by her father like Natalie didn’t.

At the Ice Hound Game Katie is ranting to Marisol about how jealous Jake was acting earlier in the hall. Speak of the Devil and Jake soon appears and they begin to banter as Jake comments how she thinks he’s a jealous jerk and he thinks she’s a slutty puck bunny. Marisol feels suffocated by their UST and makes her exit and soon Jake admits he likes her….allot however the last time they kissed she cried and he didn’t want to hurt or pressure her and so he was taking it too slow. Katie admits she likes him too but feared he didn’t like her as more than a friend….and as for the kiss….that night in her kitchen she was sad but she’s not sad anymore. They kiss and it’s recorded on the kiss cam for all including a heartbroken Dallas to see. And while I do feel slightly sad for Dallas the bigger part of me is squealing uncontrollably

Imogen’s been trying to get a hold of her dad and she tells him how Natalie told her everything. She asks where he is and he tells her he’s grading papers and she tells him to stay there. He says okay but then soon after asks where Volta’s leash is because he wishes to take the dog for a walk. Imogen tearfully reminds him Volta is dead. She’s in tears as she gets off the phone and Eli starts blasting her for her work or lack thereof again and she tells him she’s quitting.

Katie and Jake head into class the next day all happy and full of PDA when Katie spots Dallas. She excuses herself from Jake and goes to him commenting on the data for their project and comments how it was a great game the night before. Dallas comments they lost and she blushes before getting down to the business of letting him know she and Jake are a couple now. She liked him for a while and she didn’t know he liked him back and then seeing her with Dallas made him come clean. Dallas calls her out for using him yet she denies it up and down saying she didn’t want to get her heart broken so she was his partner instead of Jake’s to distance herself…..yea Katie I love you sweetie but you were using Dallas no matter how you spin it. She tells Dallas he shouldn’t care because he’s got a million other girls in the wings and she still wants to be friends and start a golf team with him.

Becky is taking down her booth and ends up knocking it down. Adam helps her up and she tells him he was right that she was collecting donations for the wrong reasons. Adam comments how she knows she has something against the play but deep down he bets she’s curious to see how it played out and invites her to go see it with him.

Imogen is playing cards with her dad while baking fish pie. Her dad’s onto her saying she can’t keep faking sick to take care of him. Fiona shows up and they start talking about things with Imogen’s dad. She asks if Fiona’s mad that she quit the play but Fiona says she’s not mad she’s just worried. Imogen says not to worry and she says how she’s thinking about getting a GED and staying there with her dad. Fiona understands but she just wants Imogen to make the right choice for her and her dad.

Becky and Jenna are having lunch and Becky tells her that Jesus has really been testing her since she moved to Toronto before she begins to talk about Adam and how he asked her out and she thinks he’s sweet and funny. Jenna asks what her conservative parents would think. Becky says she is allowed to date and asks what Jenna knows about him. Jenna says they played poker once and Becky rolls her eyes at the fact that he gambles. Jenna side eyes back commenting how she’s taken aback by him gambling but she’s okay with him being trans. Becky’s eyes go wide as saucers as she comments…. Transient…. Adam’s homeless? No….he’s a female to male transgender.

Katie and Jake are making out before Jake tells her that he saw a tomato growing in the garden and they head up to the landing to pick it however when they get there the garden is trashed.

Imogen is heading to the store and asks her dad if he’s going to come. He wants to stay home so she begins to hide all the sharp and dangerous objects out of sight. He comes down saying he’s upstairs marking papers and calls her Natalie and that’s when the realization hits that she can’t do it alone and she goes to the hospital to tell Natalie how her dad thought she was her and asks what to do to stop it from getting worse. She admits she’s scared.

Katie heads over to the Ice Hounds and starts yelling at Dallas to fess up about trashing the garden. Katie tells him he and his team are the worst thing to happen to the school…..um Katie you’ve been attendance at Degrassi since at least your Junior year (seasons 10/11A) if not since you started High School (seasons 6/7) so I’m sure you’re overelaborating just a tad. She watches as Luke bites into the tomato before the bus rolls away her eyes in a death glare.

Imogen apologizes to Fiona and Eli and says how she gets if they hate her. They don’t and they just hope she’s okay. She is, Natalie isn’t as evil as she thought…she’s hired the dad a care taker and she plans to spend every other week with her mom per her dad’s request cause one day he’s going to be too far gone and he wants her to be at a good place with Natalie. She then apologizes to Eli about not building the set she promised however it’s okay and as ‘It’s Time’ reprises in the background they reveal that Fiona convinced that shop teacher to let the class build the set as a project. Imogen tells Eli that Fiona deserves a producer credit and Eli comments that knock on wood everything will go great with the show.
