11x28/29 Dead and Gone--RECAP

 Welcome to the mid-season finale as despite the school year being over there is plenty more to see…sixteen episodes more to be exact. No, we’re not having a summer set arch….that’s saved for the clusterfuck that was the Summer arch of season thirteen….however we do get one episode set at summer’s  end as well as fourteen episodes that take place in the timespan of the entire ‘Boiling Point’ arch of summer season ten….(schools start till just before Christmas break for those who need a breakdown….) We also are candidly introduced to one of the four new freshman this episode…so keep your eyes open.

Class is over and Drew should already be sleeping in….but the new student council president is his girlfriend and this is her first big event so she owes him….it’s worth it….she’s nothing like Bianca and that whole chapter of his life is behind him. He’s with an amazing, smart, beautiful….. ‘Bianca’ Adam calls out. “No I’m with Katie,” Drew replies back however his brother soon points to the girl in question in an alleyway just off campus standing closely with Vince.

WHATEVER IT TAKES

Katie’s handing out agendas to the orientation leaders and Drew asks Katie a favor. He wants to be paired with Bianca because she’s up to something he just knows it….fine but Drew has to dance every dance with Katie no questions asked.

Clare wants to see Jake’s outfit for Prom and he comments she should be lucky you’re going as a guest and not as a cater waiter. Clare says but don’t say that to Helen cause she thinks it’s the latter. Jake walks out in just his jeans and a tie. Clare comments how her mom is coming home soon and with her and Glenn still dating it’s taboo for them to be a couple too and with school over and the renovations to the kitchen done it’s going to be hard to sneak around. Jake says that Glenn doesn’t do commitments and they’ll break up in no time. Helen shows up and asks what time Prom starts because her and Glenn want to have a family dinner. Clare’s upset because she’ll miss pre-prom pictures and this is their last date night.

Katie’s starting the orientation and Mo and Sav are moving his things out from the school Sav admits that Miss Oh gave her his number and said to call when school is over and school is over.

Drew wants to talk to Bianca…..he saw her with Vince and wants to know what was up. They are debating as Tristan….that newbie I was talking about is bitching about how he can’t get onto YouTube. Bianca goes to talk to the class as Drew reads her texts.

Sav goes into Miss Oh’s room telling him he’s not her student anymore and that they should go out on a date. She can’t tonight because she’s supervising prom and tomorrow he drives Alli to Ottawa for her Science Program and the next day Miss Oh is gone for six weeks getting a music accreditation and then after that Sav leaves for school. Miss Oh says maybe it was never meant to be.

Drew is venting about how Bianca is dating Vince. Adam tells Drew that he’s got the sweet life, summer break, a great girlfriend; Prom….and what if Vince wants to retaliate…Drew says he’s been training all semester for it. Adam says let it go.

Jake’s talking to Glenn about family dinner….Glenn asks if he likes Helen…he does….and Dinner…he likes it too it’s just Prom Night….Glenn tells him dinner is important…..he and Helen are getting married….he hopes Jake is okay with it and asks him not to tell Clare….crap…this means they’ll be siblings….

The niners break for lunch and Drew confronts Bianca about Vince. Bianca says she’s being his girlfriend and drug mule because she wants to protect Drew. She’s the one good thing she’s ever had and she doesn’t want him to suffer cause of her and the only reason she’s at orientation is because she needed an excuse to get away. She shows Drew the bruises Vince gave her and says it’s not his fight to fight. He begs to differ and is punching a bag as Katie informs him afternoon session is about to begin. Drew says she needs a favor and he kind of owes her one….he tells Katie about Vince and Katie says there are other ways to help aside from violence.

Holly J’s in the hospital and we pan on flowers from Declan. Anya and Sav ask how the surgery went and she says the procedure went well she’s just waiting to see if it takes. They ask Holly J to help with seating and end up moving Zane to their table…Riley will have to just suck it up…Sav then asks if there are any secret alcoves or adjacent rooms and Holly J reminds him how hard it was to get the event off campus cause of what THEY did at Vegas Night. Holly J tells Sav he’s weird and how she can’t believe both of them dated him.

Mr. Betenkamp is giving a demonstration in his room as Drew has a present for Bianca…. A prom ticket…there is an extra seat at their table and it gives her a few more hours of escape…Katie will be cool. Bianca nods as Drew puts it in her bag texting Vince via Bianca’s phone.

The families are at dinner and Clare can’t believe she’s missing Prom. Jake asks if the girls are going to go to the cabin and Helen says that he’s trying to coax her to do so. Glenn says it’s time for an announcement and they announce their engagement. Jake is all enthusiastic while Clare is blindsided and pissed off.

Mo can’t believe Sav is going to just let Miss Oh go now….he tells her the timing is just not on their side. Mo says then make Prom count….Sav didn’t grow a beard for nothing. Mo then suggests he steal her away from the dance and take her back to the school.

Drew shows up to meet Vince. He’s been scared of him for far too long and just wants to talk and pass an olive branch.

Clare is freaking out and can’t believe the parents are doing this and she can’t believe that Jake’s so cool Clare outs that she and Jake have been dating practically as long as the parents and maybe longer. Helen says they need to break up and Clare says she’s just going to Prom.

Drew tells Vince they should be even. He then picks up a call saying that it’s Bianca and that he plans to see her at Prom. Hanging up Drew declares that it’s over and walks away….TBC

Katie is admiring the set up for Prom and how pretty it is as Bianca enters the venue and she rolls her eyes. Drew informs Katie he got Bianca a ticket and she’s sitting with them….cause Katie said to help her and that’s what he’s doing. Her boyfriend the gang member who threatened Drew’s life numerous times has been hurting her and he wants her to have one good night. Drew says how Bianca has nobody and he just wants her to have fun ….Katie and Adam are not amused.

I KNOW I CAN MAKE IT THROUGH

Glenn’s helping Jake get ready for the dance all the while Jake is sad about Clare storming off after being blindsided. Glenn meanwhile asks him how well does he know her….what if they get more serious and then end up breaking up could he deal with seeing his ex every morning at breakfast? Jake says they are mature adults and Glenn says that he just doesn’t want to see either of them getting hurt.

At the Prom I’m amused by the fact they are having a full dinner and Eli’s offering Drew, Katie, and Bianca more bread. I mean at my prom I think we just had like a punch bowl and Jordan almonds or something. Adam taunts that it’s awkward. Drew notes this and decides to break the ice bringing up how Katie used to take ballet and comments how Bianca’s a dancer too. Bianca says she too Jazz and Hip Hop. Katie says cool but she never took those then she comments on Bianca’s bracelet. She tells him her aunt made it and then Katie notices the bruise on her arm. Katie says Drew told her all about her boyfriend….and how Drew is helping her out.

Across the room at the graduates (and Owen)’s table Anya has a surprise and pulls out her tablet where Holly J is there on face time. Sav asks how her kidney is and she says it’s doing great. They show her the room and she teases that the banners are crooked. Sav pardons himself because he forgot the king and queen crowns as Riley and Zane have a chat away from the table. Riley tells Zane he talked to his mom about being gay again and he’s planning on telling his dad any day now. He was dreading the dance and seeing Zane again and Zane tells Riley that it’s not the last time they’ll see one another because he got into Eastern. Sav tells Miss Oh he needs to get to Degrassi for the crowns.

Drew asks Katie if she was having fun and Katie admits she had a different idea of the dance. Drew asks Katie to dance and as they dance he says that was his idea of the night just the two of them dancing….meanwhile Anya is dancing with Owen and Bianca with Adam and there is even a throwaway comment about the ballroom plot from My Body Is a Cage. Katie apologizes to Drew for being jealous.

Clare sees Jake at the dance and tells him hi. He asks if she really walked and she said she needed to clear her head. She wants to know why he’s so calm with it. He just says that his dad’s cool and hopefully her mom will warm up to things and the best part is no sneaking around all summer…. Yea, Because they’ll be BROTHER AND SISTER…and while most people found Cake (Clare+Jake) to be highly polarizing after this point cause of the sibling thing I despite being very much an ECLARE (Eli+Clare) shipper relished in it….then again I watch way to many daytime soaps. Clare’s freaking out that her mom is rushing into things and they need to stop the wedding. Jake says but his dad is happy and that he’s happy Glenn’s happy. Jake says maybe they need some space and tells Clare he’ll see her later and leaves the dance.

Sav ambushes Miss Oh with a private dance….

Back at Prom…Bianca comments to Drew how this is the first time that she feels safe and sound however that safety is short lived. Vince is there and Drew is livid since well…he talked to the thug and thought it was over but Bianca declares with him it never is and she proceeds to talk to him. Drew wants to follow suit but Katie pleads for him to stay with her. He doesn’t and starts yelling at Drew saying that Bianca isn’t coming and they had a deal. They engage in fisticuffs and Vince falls to the ground only to get up and fire two shots. The smoking gun is on the floor as Drew goes to check on Katie…. Katie’s fine as Eli calls over….Adam’s been shot. Katie’s taking first aid classes and starts tending to the wound before the EMT gets there. Bianca picks up the smoking gun because she needs to end things.

Sav and Miss Oh are in their private dance when they get calls about the dance shooting.

The EMT’s come to get Adam….it’s a clean wound and Adam will be okay. He asks Eli and Clare to take him….the mom is going to meet him at the hospital and Drew will be there soon. Katie knows Drew’s going after Bianca and Vince and she plans to go too to make sure Drew doesn’t do something stupid.

Miss Oh sees the empty venue and says they shouldn’t of left….it was a mistake.

Drew tells Bianca don’t ruin her life by killing someone else. Bianca says it’s messed up….I either be his bitch or he’ll hurt the people I love. Drew says she’ll go to jail and he said that it’s better than this life. Bianca says this is his safe house and he’ll come out soon. Drew comments that she should call the cops and rat out the whole organization…..it’s going to be okay. Drew takes the gun and Bianca takes his cell.

Clare and Eli ask how Adam is. He’s okay….a little shaken up.

Eli asks how Clare is and she says things between she and Jake are complicated. How complicated, well….she hands Eli a text from Jake saying ‘going to the cabin for the summer see you at the wedding sis’ ….sis? Clare tells Eli their parents are getting married and Eli can see how that’s a problem and he apologizes. Clare tells Eli maybe it wasn’t meant to be.

The cops are in the ally as Drew and Katie watch on. Vince is being arrested. The trio soon show up at the hospital and Drew promises that he’ll be Adam’s slave all summer while he recoups. Audra scoffs at Bianca’s presence and Drew tells his mom how she’s been brave and telling the detectives all about Vince and his gang all night long and she needs their help getting a lawyer. Audra says they can talk later and Katie hugs Drew.

Alli is getting ready to go to the science camp and Sav tells her to wait in the car because he wants to say goodbye to the school. Sav apologizes for the other night and Miss Oh says if only the timing was different and they kiss. Sav tells Alli that he’s going to Miss Degrassi and Alli plans to send him updates of the school and guarantees there will be plenty of drama next year….damn straight wouldn’t be Degrassi without it….. also it’s interesting to note the first scene of Love Game ( the first actual episode of the season since Spring Fever/Boom Boom Pow was touted as a ‘special’ on the DVD)and the last scene in this episode concluding the arch were both sound tracked by the song Young Blood by The Naked and The Famous.
