11x01/2 Spring Fever AKA Boom Boom Pow—RECAP

While this episode is the season opener it was produced at the end of season ten….that said doesn’t expect to see any newbies. And don’t expect to see a new and improved opening title sequence either as this episode is produced on the DVD like the full length movie episodes were.

The episode opens with scenery porn of Toronto. It’s Spring Break. The Bhandari’s are painting walls, Drew, Bianca, KC, and Dave are out where a DJ is giving out KeKe Palmer tickets and Bianca does a dance to win them as Fiona is trying on swim suites. Bianca is taking Drew home before his curfew as some old buddy of hers, Anson starts to cat call her. He’s a nobody….a has been and she just wants to saver what time she has left with Drew.

WHATEVER IT TAKES (well a title card)

Drew may have had a curfew but apparently it doesn’t mean they can’t grind and make out on the Torres couch till four AM. Bianca gets up to leave but Drew has a present for her for their two month anniversary. It’s a bracelet with her name engraved. Audra hears noises and she heads downstairs as Drew hides Bianca. He says it’s the TV he just turned it off but Audra isn’t dumb as she sees Bianca’s jacket saying your friend needs to come home then we need to chat.

Holly J gives Fiona sunscreen as a going away gift before she leaves on break. Fiona is talking about a hypothetical Spring Fling however Laura comes to break the bad news. A Volcano erupted in St. Kits and all flights are grounded. Holly J suggests Fiona go to her drawing class with her.

Sav is brooding how all the other guys are with their girlfriends and he plays his guitar all mopey. Alli doesn’t want him to crush her vibe and drags him out to have some fun.

KC, Drew, and Dave are working at a spring break basketball camp for elementary schoolers. KC comments how with the money he makes during the week he can get baby Guthrie something special and wants to show the boys all the photos on his phone. Dave says enough with the baby talk and wants to know the details of him and Bianca however Drew needs to sugar coat it with the kids around. He’s grounded for a month due to the interruption and Bianca is going to the show alone.

Alli and Sav are going shopping and Sav is winning all about it. Alli walks into the store so that Sav can have a meet cute with some random girl named Kianna. She’s being called and Sav comments when daddy wants to go he wants to go and asks if she’s free later on. She’s working at some concert venue but will leave his name at the door.

Drew is helping the kids learn to shoot as Bianca shows up in all her short skirt bare midriff glory….for the concert….does he like. Drew comments how the outfit seems like too much and Bianca says Drew’s hot when he’s jealous and she leaves with KC and Dave so they can pick up their dates and go.

Holly J and Fiona show up at the drawing class as the model as a woman walks in with a robe. Fiona is interested in her and she ends up being Charlie their life drawing model.

Drew is pleading to go to the concert as all the other guys are going but then again all the other guys didn’t sneak some girl in past curfew. Drew says she has a name and it’s Bianca as Audra comments about her being the girl who refused to dance with his brother in class and caused allot of drama. Drew knows this but also knows she’s not that girl anymore….hopefully. Adam comes in when the conversation ends saying since he’s grounded does he want to play X-box. Drew shakes his head. Video games…pish posh I’m sneaking out can’t get any more grounded can I. Adam calls out that he can but it’s too late. Drew’s a goner.

Bianca, Dave, and KC are at the show and meet up with Jenna and Sadie inside. Meanwhile Alli is all giddy that Sav scored them free tickets to the show. As Keke comes onstage Sav realizes that Kianna the girl he was flirting with at the sunglasses stand is Keke palmer….is this plot unrealistic and convoluted….yes but just enjoy.

Anson is at the concert and tells Bianca that he’s been thinking allot about her while he’s been in lockup and wants her back. She says she’s got a new life….a boyfriend. Anson is oh…that kid from earlier; he bets he’d be real torn up if say something were to happen to her? He then offers to get her a drink and she can’t refuse.

Fiona asks how she’ll know if Charlie is gay and Holly J says just to ask. Fiona nods and heads over to Charlie to talk complementing about her cute scooter. Fiona says how she’s got one too and Charlie asks what she’s doing after class glad she’s met another fanatic. Fiona says she’s riding scooters with her. Holly J asks how things went and Fiona says they need to go shopping.

Alli is just fangirling over the Sav and Keke situation as Keke waves Sav to come up on stage with her causing all the other Degrassi kids to scream cause they know him. As they are dancing Dave comments that he’s surprised Jenna’s even there cause she just had a baby and KC comments how his mom had the night off….best grandma ever….Jenna says she’ll be lucky to stay up as Drew arrives. The boys greet him and ask if he got time off….not exactly. He asks where Bianca went and they say they haven’t seen her since getting there. Drew goes to call her when he sees her and Anson at the bar. He can’t believe she’d do this….coming with another guy. Bianca says it’s not what it looks like and she’s right….they used to date, he’s in a gang and he threatened to harm one of them if she didn’t comply.  Drew asks what is he going to do….shoot him….and then says he bets she’s been screwing him on the side this while time. Bianca says pretty much as Drew storms off.

Fiona sighs cause there is no way she’ll be able to ride a scooter by tomorrow because she doesn’t have the proper license. She guesses she’ll have to call things off.

KC asks Drew if he found Bianca yet and Drew says yes….she’s with some other guy who is supposedly in a gang and is holding her against her will but he doesn’t buy that. KC tells Drew not everyone lives with a white picket fence and when he was in the group home he dealt with allot of kids in gang related activities and it’s hard to get out. He asks Drew if Bianca’s ever lied to him before and she hasn’t making Drew realize she could be in real danger. 

Bianca is sitting outside the club deleting Drew as her friend when Anson shows up. She needs to get home cause of curfew and Anson starts to attacking though….it’s not like they hadn’t done it before. Drew’s trying to call but can’t get through as Anson has her pinned against an Ally wall. Drew hears her screams and he starts hurting Anson however Anson has the upper hand beating the pulp out of Drew. Drew’s on the ground as Bianca knocks Anson out with a cinderblock...as they flee the scene Bianca’s engraved bracelet is left as evidence. Once they are safe and sound Drew says he’ll never doubt her again as she hugs him saying how he fought for her.

The next day at school Drew is sore but he’ll live…..unlike Anson who from the paper that Bianca shows Drew died. What did they do? They killed a man…..but it was in self-defense. Bianca comments how they should live their lives like nothing happened and Drew agrees, why turn themselves in when the cops aren’t looking for them.

Sav’s now listening to the Keke Palmer song they danced to on stage. Alli comments how the song wasn’t written for him and Sav wants to see her again but how….she never gave him her number and it would be stalker to wait at her hotel right…..right….okay let me just get changed first.

Drew and Bianca are walking by Dave and officer Turner and Dave comments how he’s glad the couple patched things up after the show. Dave asked if they heard about the guy who died a few blocks from the show. It was probably gang stuff and the people who did it will be dead in a week and Drew is worried.

Fiona is worried about seeing Charlie again after lying to her. Charlie asks how her pluming is and asks why her scooter isn’t outside. Fiona admits that she lied cause she was nervice….she’s a lesbian…recently out of the closet and she was scared to tell her she was interested. Turns out Charlie’s out too….convenient….and is okay with the awkwardness.

Drew tells Bianca that they are okay….this is going to pass then he sees her bare wrist and realizes the bracelet can be used as evidence.

Sav shows up at the hotel to talk to Keke. He’s not stalking her he just wanted to tell her that he had a great time. She says she needs to get out and tells Sav to run….now….with her.

Holly J leaves the studio to go to dialysis and runs into Charlie. Charlie asks if Holly J’s her girlfriend and she says platonically and asks how riding a scooter is. She offers to let Fiona ride on it with her.

Drew and Bianca are at the scene and Drew wonders if they should turn themselves in. Bianca can’t, she got into a bar brawl once and has a record and is still on probation. Drew brings up the self-defense angle however Bianca points out self-defense or not it’s still manslaughter.

Sav takes Keke to an empty Dot and they share a coffee. Sav asks why him and she says he seemed nice. He says he’s just a regular guy and she tells him that’s his appeal as her bodyguard comes to collect her. Before she goes she gives Sav a kiss and hands him an autograph.

Drew and Bianca are digging around in the Alley and can’t find it. A guy named Vince shows up with the bracelet saying she must be Bianca L DeSousa. She says no he’s got the wrong girl and he says people shouldn’t put everything online calling out Drew and how they go to Degrassi. They don’t know what they’ve gotten themselves into and next time he sees them…. (pause to reveal gun holster) ….payback.

And now Drew has officially morphed from Dumb Jock who thinks with his penis to paranoid, PTSD Drew as Vince’s words and sirens echo in his head and the tap of Dave’s hand on his shoulder causes him to jump a mile and probably shat himself. Dave says spring break is fast ending and wanted to know if he and Bianca wanted to hang. Drew says he wants to lay low. Bianca then goes over toward Bianca saying he just needs to talk to Vince about what happened before he retaliates. Bianca knows someone who can track him and hopes that Drew is okay.

Bianca is lusting after the baby blue scooter in the shop window saying how Charlie took her for a ride and it’s official she’s getting her license and is going to buy the scooter for herself. Holly J asks if she’s sure her and Charlie are going to ride off into the sunset. Fiona says she’s coming over to draw and what if something happens. Holly J says she did want a spring fling.

Drew and Bianca wait outside at Degrassi for their meeting and it looks like Vince brought friends. Drew says it was purely self-defense and he’s sorry about his friend…..friend….no….Anson was my best man and he wants Drew and Bianca to deal for them but first he wants Drew to prove his trust and so he gives him a gun saying tomorrow he’ll contact Drew with a name.

Charlie shows up at Fiona’s and Charlie asks where Fiona wants her to stand….she’ll model for Fiona then Fiona will model for her. Fiona draws Charlie then gets changed into the bikini she bought for her busted trip and models for Charlie in it. The two of them end up kissing however Fiona pulls back apologizing asking if they can just draw.

Sav’s writing songs again and Sav comments about how he hasn’t thought about Holly J for a day. Keke ends up sending Sav a message via Skype and they talk about music. Keke sings a new song to Sav. As she’s singing we get a musical montage. Adam’s playing violent video games as Drew is holding Anson’s gun nervously.

Holly J asks how the date was and she says they kissed but then she backed off then it got awkward. Holly J asks if they are going to skip class but Fiona wants to face things. She goes to Charlie who apologizes about moving too fast. Fiona says that she just wants to be friends first and they agree.

Bianca tells Drew he doesn’t have to do it and he says he does….for her and there he is…..he then walks toward Officer Turner and tells him everything. How HE was the one who clocked Anson with a brick to stop him from raping Bianca. He then hands him the gun saying one of Anson’s gang buddy’s gave it to him wanting him to kill someone to save himself. He then rides off to the station to give a statement.
