The episode opens up on action shots of the football team
playing and from the crowd pans to Sav, Alli, and Clare on the side lines it’s
presumably the same opening game from 99 problems. Jenna asks KC if she’s still
mad at him (for taking his phone) and his mom calls out. It’s been three years
and she wants to talk. Armstrong calls the team to go back on the bus and KC
dismisses himself but his mom says the coach okayed it.
WHATEVER IT TAKES
KC’s mom asks how long he’s been playing. KC says he’s just
started this season. She tells him the dad played and asks why she hasn’t had
her calls returned. He tells her school, homework, his curfew….she tells him
how she’s filed the paperwork to get custody of him. KC is not amused and wants
to stay at the group home. Anyway sidebar I just want to say that KC’s
character arc is just amazing to watch play out and I think allot of it is in
part to the actor and I really hope Sam does more stateside someday cause he’s
brilliant.
Dawes now apparently teaches grade ten creative writing.
Clare comments about her grade and Dawes tells her that her writing is dry and impersonal
and while her technicality is good she can’t rely on vampire fan fiction which
is why she’s being paired with one Eli Goldsworthy. They leave class and Eli has a billion megawatt
smirk on his lips and Clare is all he’s just so uhhhhhh Alli sees what we all
see, that Clare is totally but crazy in love with Eli and so you can all guess
what happens next……yep Alli starts to wine about how she needs to get into Drew’s
pants. Clare asks if she’s even talked to him and she’s all um no what will I
say. She then tries to set up a meet cute by bumping into him only for him to
address her as Sav’s little sister….
Jenna asks KC if he’s okay and KC says how his mom wants him
to move in. Jenna says it’s better than a group home and KC says no it’s not.
She was high most of the time and he doesn’t feel safe with her.
At home, Helen asks Clare if her outfit is too much for the
next day’s church fundraiser. Randall comes in and the couples are fighting and
it must be a regular thing because Clare mentions it’s happening again.
KC meets with his mom and social worker. The worker wants KC
to go and the mom says she’s been clean and sober for two years and is in a
good place. The worker wants to talk to KC one on one and KC is pissed that he’s
being blindsided. The worker says he should at least give it a try first to see
if she really has changed.
Alli is upset Clare hasn’t called but she’s been working on
her essay. She asks Clare who can give her guy advice and decides Dave, he’s a
guy. Though from Dave’s perspective he’s glad that she’s crawling back to him because
he loves her. Dave suggests a party and so Alli plans to throw one cause her
parents aren’t going to be home.
Clare shows her paper to Eli whose best comment is the title’s
centered. He suggests that they blow the class to clear their heads and gain
inspiration. Clare decides fuck it and walks out.
Simpson walks out of his office in panic. The board called
him and apparently Degrassi’s standardized test scores are not up to par and if
they don’t get those up then sports and clubs could be cut to re distribute the
money to more academic enhancing services. He decides to put on a showcase to
show the board that Degrassi is more than just numbers on paper. This plot is
random but a really good one cause while the school does end up losing clubs
for a different reason the tests are brought up again. Now I don’t know how
this is where any of my readers are from but where I live standardized tests
are a big deal to the point that schools are even GRADED based on their performance
and improvement in various demographics. Dave sees Sav comments how he guesses
he’s not going to make the big party…..Sav then confronts Alli who promises to
not let it get out of hand….or to let anyone in Sav’s room. Drew over hears the
siblings chatter and now knows about the event.
Eli comments to Clare how it’s a first…..skipping school to
do homework. She doesn’t get how he’s gotten such a good grade and he teases he’s
screwing Miss Dawes. She comments about how she’s writing about gun control and
he tells her it’s controversial but overdone and she should write about what’s
pissing her off. She mentions how her parents are fighting but she can’t write
about that and he gets her to randomly scream at the top of her lounges in
public. She does and she tells him it’s his turn and he replies how it’s not
his style. She continues to egg him on pestering him until they are inches
apart and almost about to share a kiss. They don’t and the whole will they or
won’t they aspect begins to boil…..spoilers they do and THEN some.
After school Alli’s party is in full swing. She’s longingly
watching Drew play rock band as Dave informs her he’s re-filled the ice in the
cooler. She thanks him and hypothetically asks him what he’d say if she had a
crush on him. He tells her he’d say how he thinks she’s the most beautiful girl
in the world….awe… she smiles at the complement and knows the party is about to
be kicked up a notch by playing never have I ever.
Jenna and a reluctant KC are having dinner over at Mrs. ‘Call
Me Lisa’ Guthrie’s apartment. Lisa comments about how when KC was little all he’d
eat was mac and cheese and they have pie for dessert. KC comments asking about
ice cream and his mom says she’ll run to the convenience store to get some
leaving KC all the time he needs to snoop in her apartment and look for
something to frame her for being unfit and allow him to stay in the group home
until he’s eighteen.
Alli tells Dave the rules and Dave starts….never have I ever
lied to my parents. Alli sighs and takes off a piece of Jewelry while Drew
pulls off his over shirt saying that with questions like that he’ll be naked in
no time. He then gives the next question….never have I ever sexted causing Alli
to remove another accessory…long story. Alli says never have I ever liked
someone in this room before taking off her jacket and as Dave does the same he
comments to her saying she’s only supposed to strip if it’s something she HAS
done and she comments how the rules are confusing…..bull shit….she’s trying to
seduce Drew and we all know it.
Clare is working on her edited paper when Eli shoots her an
IM and a potential meeting is in the developmental stages however soon Helen
and Randall enter the room. Randal has to go back to the office leaving Helen
in a lurch for the church fundraiser. She asks Clare if she wants to sub in and
she agrees leaving plans with Eli to have to wait.
At Casa Bhandari Drew is removing his belt when Alli is
freaking out….how did it get to be….eight already. Let’s end the party on a
high now get out. Dave asks if he can help her clean but she shakes her head.
She’s good.
KC finds pills….aspirin and prescriptions Jenna reminds him.
He then finds a bottle of alcohol and KC think’s this is perfect. Recovering addicts
shouldn’t have it lying around and they should most definitely not be giving it
to their underage sons. Lisa then comes back with the ice-cream apologizing because
she had to go to two stores to retrieve it.
Alli is counting down cause any moment now Drew’s going to
show up looking for his watch that she kleptoed from the never have I ever
clothes pile. He shows up and she asks if he wants to hang or something…..or
something and they engage in a heated make out.
KC tells Jenna the master plan….they go back to the home and
show the worker that his mom gave him booze. Jenna can’t lie and thinks KC’s
idea is horrible and honesty is the best policy. He asks why she’s the expert
on mothers because hers left her. She ends up leaving and Bianca asks him if he’s
got plans for his bottle because she can help…..TBC
The next day KC, Fitz, and Bianca are asleep hung over in a
car in the school lot. KC’s phone rings and Fitz begins to wine about the noise.
It’s the home and KC tells them he spent the night with his mom and apologizes for
not checking in. Bianca then offers him aspirin and water she comments how she
thought the spawn of junkies would be more street smart. KC asks how she and
Bianca explain he got real talkative when he was drunk and Fitz asks if it was
true his coach tried to buy him a hooker….you remember Carson-Gate. Jenna shows
up at the car commenting how he smells and how Gin isn’t going to solve all his
problems and if he doesn’t watch his back he’s going to end up a looser burnout
like Fitz and Bianca…..Well KC does end up like Bianca in the sense of one with
bad reputation really being highly academically capable while Jenna ends up
becoming like Fitz in the whole finding Jesus department…..ooops I forgot
SPOILERS
I KNOW I CAN MAKE IT THROUGH
Clare and Helen are laughing about the night before and she
then asks why again the dad couldn’t come. Helen says he just had to work and
she asks if something was wrong they’d tell her. Helen claims nothing is and
Clare walks into school.
Miss Oh is giving a class and Dave comments how Alli’s party
wasn’t a bust and that they make a great team Alli agrees and soon Dave is
asking if she wants to hang out at the Dot. Alli says she plans to spend alone
time with her boyfriend….that is if it’s not too soon. Dave shakes his head
thinking she’s talking about him but as she says she can’t wait to tell Drew
you can almost fell his heard cracking.
The football team is having practice and KC’s being overly aggressive
toward Owen for no reason. Armstrong tells him the past few days he’s been
acting OOC and if there is anything wrong his door is always open to talk.
Eli sees Clare at her locker and comments how he missed her
the other night and asks if Twilight was on TV and so for those again thinking Fortnight
was just a veiled in-verse expy nope there are two shitty Vampire YA franchises
around. Clare then begins to rant Clare begins to rant about her mom. Eli asks
her to slow down and she does. He asks if it’s possible they are getting a divorce
and she shakes her head at it though she’s sure this is what’s happening. He
then asks if they know her feelings and perhaps her venting them out in writing
for say her English assignment would be the perfect thing to do.
KC shows up at Lisa’s asking why she’s forcing him to move
out of the group home. He wants to know if she’s going to be the mom who cooks
him dinner or the one who abandons him for days at the time. He brings up the
Gin and how he drank it last night. She tells him he should be with her and he
comments he’ll see how the court agrees.
Eli asks how she felt about writing the paper and Clare says
well. Dawes comes into the room and can’t wait to hear their excuse for playing
hooky the day before…..food poisoning perhaps. Clare shakes her head saying
they were working on the assignment and while they still have detention the
subject is dropped as Clare reads her paper to the class. She starts to read it
but starts to tear up. Dawes asks Eli for his opinion and Eli says she should
read it to a larger audience like at the showcase and Dawes think’s its great.
Clare asks Eli if he’s nuts cause her mom’s going to be there and Eli comments
how her mom will now be forced to listen.
KC is meeting with the worker and lawyer about trying to
keep him in the home. The word of the worker isn’t enough and he needs
Armstrong to vouch for him. KC shows up cause like Armstrong said his door is always
open and he asks for a character reference so the lawyers know he’s better off
without his mom. Armstrong says he should ask the councilor or Simpson because
he’s just his coach. KC’s pissed and in a fit of rage keys Armstrong’s car.
Jenna sees this and is highly disappointed.
Armstrong pulls up to school in his scratched car the
following day as KC walks by.
Drew is at his locker surrounded by a gaggle of girls as
Alli asks Drew if he wants to see Ghostbusters with her as its retro night at
the theater. He says he already saw it and Alli comments that’s what retro
night means. She says they can go do something else like grab a dessert at the
Dot. Drew is flattered that a smart and pretty girl like Alli is into him but
the kiss was just a really hot kiss and he can’t date because its football
season and he needs to focus on the game though he wishes the timing was
different.
Clare is nervous about reading the reveling paper and Eli
tells her that they were partners because she needs to take more risks. Clare
comments with her writing and not with her life and blows the reading off.
KC wants to blow the town with Jenna, hitchhike to Tennessee
to find her mom. He’s done something bad and wants to go. Simpson calls KC into
the office.
Drew thought about it and he does want to hang out with
Alli. She says they could still do the movie but he’d rather just go someplace
and make out.
Helen asks why Clare didn’t talk and she tells her mom she
had cold feet before handing her the essay. As Helen is reading Clare asks what’s
going on and asks if they are getting a divorce. Helen says she wish she could
tell her but she doesn’t know. Randal doesn’t want to spend time with her
anymore and Helen is afraid to find out why this is.
KC shows up in the office where Armstrong, the social worker
and Lisa are waiting. Armstrong thinks KC needs help. The worker brings up how
KC lied and Armstrong brings up the erratic behavior and Simpson brings up the
car and Lisa kicks some ass saying just cause I made some mistakes doesn’t make
my son a bad seed. She then pulls KC aside saying she loves him and if he wants
to stay with the group home she’s not going to fight him.
Eli shows up at the Edward’s house and Clare gives her
memantic line of WHAT ARE YOU DOING HERE. He asks what happened and Clare says
how the mom read the letter and the parents are talking it out. Eli gives her
his noise canceling headphones and promises he won’t interfere in her personal
life. She tells him he can feel free to do so whenever he wishes but she can
choose to do what she wants.
KC shows up at Lisa’s to move in. He’s scared but she promises
to make it better for him. She’d made his favorites just in case and after
dinner they can talk about the Gin and the car. KC admits he really did miss
her.
