5x10 Redemption Song-recap

Before I get into this episode I want to make a timeline rant. This is Toronto they have weather and if this episode is supposed to be a year after the shooting which presumably was in the late fall/early winter then why the heck are Darcy and the Friendship Club dressing all summery for their retreat…..

Like I said the episode opens as Darcy is bikini shopping for the retreat. Spinner makes his way into the fitting room and teases Darcy about giving Jesus a heart attack dressed like that. Jay shows up at the mall and runs into Spinner after this (I assume this is a different mall or Jay’s banishment from season three is null and void) and has some bro time with Spinner till Darcy shows up. Those two banter for a moment before Jay invites Spinner to a party at the ravine. Spinner is totally….possibly….not that into it.

WHATEVER IT TAKES

Spinner is at the friendship club meeting debating the club leader Linus about religion. The bell rings and Linus tell Spinner he’d love to continue to debate with him at the retreat.

Jimmy and Hazel are having breakfast before class and Hazel tells Jimmy that she’s planned for them a summer road trip to the Southern part of the US…..Disney World, Nashville….she’s giddy with anticipation. Soon after the announcement over the PA says how it’s been a year since the shooting. There is a flashback to Time Stands Still and Spinner is sitting in class feeling guilty. After this we hear Miss H continue talking and saying that after many proposals on projects to help the school move on from the tragedy they’ve chosen a mural to be painted by Jimmy Brooks himself. Hazel didn’t know he submitted anything however he tells her Ellie inspired him to do it. Paige whispers to Hazel wondering since when did Jimmy and Ellie become a thing.

Spinner tries to congratulate Jimmy for the project however gets rebuffed and after school talks to Jay about how guilty he is and Jay tells him he needs to have some fun and forget the past. Spinner nods and goes off to the weekend retreat. At the retreat Spinner starts to talk to Linus who mentions how he and his girlfriend Kim are pre engaged and how relationships are more than just sec.

Ellie makes a comment to Jimmy about the road trip and soon Hazel arrives to organize the painting project.

Friendship Club is in a circle talking about fears. Spinner is soon blindsided into talking about what happened with Jimmy and he is pissed walking off to call Jay. Jay shows up and is fascinated with all the hot Christian girls and decides to stay.

Ellie, Jimmy, and Hazel are working on mural and Jimmy and Ellie are talking about art related things Hazel is out of the loop about.

Jay is working his way into the group and Spinner pulls him back before he goes off to redefine the term ‘bible thumping’ Jay wishes to know just what sort of hold Darcy has on him. Darcy soon joins the boys with beers stolen from Jay’s civic. The boys drink however Darcy declines because she doesn’t like the taste of beer. As Spinner goes to get round two, Jay tells Darcy that Manny is on the prowl and if she doesn’t put out soon Spinner is going to dump her. As he says this Darcy takes a swig.

Hazel notices Jimmy painted Ellie into his mural and is pissed off. Flipping out she dumps paint on Jimmy.

Spinner is back from the car and sees Darcy waiting for him. She removes her shirt and starts to fiddle with the straps of her bikini top however she starts to break down. She loves him and she doesn’t want to lose him to Manny…. Spinner wants to know what she means and she tells him what Jay said.  Spinner then approaches Jay after the details are spoken off screen and tells him off saying how he ruins everything.

Hazel confronts Jimmy more about Ellie. Jimmy tells her he loves her but lately Ellie’s been a muse to him. This prompts Hazel to dump him.

Spinner apologizes to Darcy for inviting Jay to the retreat and she’s okay and still loves him.
