Craig and Ashley are kissing after school and Craig asks if
he’s going to see her tomorrow. Ashley comments about how her dad’s wedding seems
to be taking over her life. Now before I go on I once again need to just point
out that this episode originally aired in Canada in Late 2004 and in the US in
Early 2005. I do this because marriage equality is a major hot topic at least
stateside at present and to have two gay males having a wedding (or rather a commitment
ceremony but still) almost ten years ago on a show geared towards kids and
teens is utterly progressive so snaps for Canada. Anyway Ashley is listing off
her duties which include going to the airport….Craig comments he likes airports….people
saying hellos goodbyes I love yous. Ashley smiles asking if he was saying it to
her and he teases he only says it at airports. Their moment however is cut
short as Kate arrives to pick Ashley up.
WHATEVER IT TAKES
Ashley is rehearsing telling her mom that she and Craig are
back together the next day at school when they hear the horrific recording that
Marco and Spinner made in the studio when Craig abandoned them to go to Ashley.
JT, Liberty, and Manny are getting ready to present the
school play to the Drama club. It’s a version of Dracula that Liberty adapted.
This is the first of many school productions and comes second to season 12’s
Romeo and Jules.
Craig is talking to Ashley in class ignoring Simpson telling
to stop. He tells Craig to move across the room. Craig flips out saying its independent
study….he’s independently walking out and Simpson can study his but leaving.
After class Craig complains everyone is trying to split them up. She says maybe
they shouldn’t come clean until after the wedding. Craig is getting paranoid.
Kwan is working on rehearsals or a run through I couldn’t
tell. Raditch calls them into the office and asks if doing a play like Dracula
is good after the while Rick situation. He wants something happy…like a musical….a
musical about Degrassi to boost moral…..written before tomorrow’s drama
meeting. This reminds me of all the controversy that surrounded the above mentioned
play as well which in fact happened to be a musical (we also do have a musical
in season nine)
Craig goes to Jimmy’s room venting about his situation with
Ashley. He explains how her house is wedding central and Caitlin is painting
their house and Jimmy makes a comment about vacancies and this leads Craig to
get the idea to go to a hotel. He asks Joey for his credit card and he comments
about Craig skipping….it was only a study hall but still. Joey doesn’t let
Craig use the card and so he steals it. Heading to the venue Craig runs into
Sally….Christopher’s sister. She starts to flirt with him but he rebuffs saying
he loves Ashley who happens to be listening in. He gives her a hotel room key
for after the rehearsal dinner if she needed someplace to go. Kate kicks him
out and the two of them head to the hotel room. Ashley comments how Craig got a
room with two beds and what if they only need one….well if Craig has protection
which he does always carrying it after the Manny situation. The next scene
Craig is looking at the pay per view guide while Ashley is getting her shirt on
and crying. She’s happy really just overwhelmed by everything. She needs to get
going to the rehearsal party and decides to take Craig with her screw her mom.
Liberty and JT are working on the new play at the Dot and
Manny shows up. She thinks the whole musical thing is a joke even after the two
of them start singing. JT ‘quits’ and Manny tells Liberty to go after him and
try to brainstorm something not about a lunch lady.
Ashley and Craig show up at the gay bar where the party is
taking place. Kate wants to talk to Ashley alone. Ashley tells her mom that her
husband left him for another man and she’s sitting there throwing the wedding
so why can’t she accept her dating Craig. Her mom says she was just getting
back to normal after last time and doesn’t want to see her spiral back into
depression. Craig and Ashley dance and he tells her that he just wants to freeze
the moment they are in. The song however goes to a fast one and Craig leaves
heading home to grab a suit and his mom’s ring. He’s in a manic mode saying
that he’s glad that he and Ashley are back together and he never should have
left her for Manny and that if they need him he’s at Marco. He arrives back at
the party and proposes to Ashley.
JT and Liberty (and Danny) are in the hot tub brainstorming
and getting nothing. Liberty comes up with Radish
song to rebel.
Ashley is talking to Sally about the proposal. She loves him
but it just came out of left field.
Back at the hotel Craig is trashing it as the phone is
ringing ….Ashley is calling…. TO BE CONTINUED…..
The episode opens the next day. Craig is in the trashed room
playing with the ring when Ashley called. Craig says that the ringer was off
and he was sorry. Craig comments the last time they saw one another he proposed
and she said no. She tells him she doesn’t want to get married right now….but
someday yes.
I KNOW I CAN MAKE IT THROUGH
Craig is jittery at the Dot as Marco arrives. Marco asks
what Craig wanted him and he tells him that the wedding is in a few hours and
he needs help finding a nice suit….using the stolen credit card of Joey’s.
There is a shopping montage the follows. Dylan shows up to pick up Marco and
Craig says he has to go to a gay wedding and is so glad gays can get married….see
note from part ones recap.
At the play rehearsal the cast hears that Dracula is dead as
JT and Liberty hand them the lyrics to the Radish song. None of them are into
it and the cast walks out leaving JT and Liberty in a lurch.
Craig is heading up to the hotel room to get ready still all
manic and jittery. He spots the staff at the room looking at the damage and he
bales. This leads Craig to go to Jimmy’s room to change instead. He has news….he
lists all the weddings he’s gone to and tells Jimmy he and Ashley are getting
married. Jimmy asks if he’s nuts cause he’s only sixteen….is he drunk? Crazy?
Craig wishes that Jimmy would understand and be happy for them.
The commitment ceremony happens and Craig and Ashley are
making flirty eyes with one another from across the aisle.
Joey gets a food delivery and can’t find his card. Christine
who is there with Simpson helping with the painting job pays for the food and
Joey comments Craig took the car. Simpson comments about how Albert was
mentally unstable and he’s seen teenagers in his day and wonders if there is
something bigger going on with Craig then just teenage angst. Joey then gets
the call about the hotel room.
At the ceremony during toasts Craig announces to everyone
that he and Ashley are engaged and Ashley is shaking her head not wanting it to
be this way. She blasts him for telling everyone this saying that she’s changed
her mind and wants Craig to go. Craig tells her she’s his everything and comes
back into the reception tent to tell his parents that he loves Ashley and he
has a massive freak out.
Raditch shows up to the drama rehearsal where only JT and
Liberty remain. JT goes back to pitch the ‘Lunch Lady’ play that they were
talking about but shot down. Liberty tells JT they aren’t the words she wrote
before telling Raditch that a kid died in the school but that doesn’t mean we
have to be censored and then recites her protest song. Both of them get
detention.
Ashley is crying at a table looking at her cell as Craig is
calling tearfully from a phone booth freaking out cause he ‘needs’ Ashley.
Craig comes home and asks where Joey is. Caitlin says he’s out looking for him.
Angie tells Craig that Joey is mad at him and hands her the ring to give to
Ashley.
Joey shows up at the wedding looking for Craig. He tells
Ashley that he knows about the hotel room and asks why they caused $4,000 in
damages. She tells him he must have done it last night after he proposed. Kate
tells Joey that Craig has issues.
Craig comes downstairs changed with a check and Joey’s
credit card and he’s about to leave again when Joey shows up. Joey wants to
talk to him because something isn’t right. Joey wants him to sit down and is
blocking him from running away and Craig ends up beating Joey up. Ashley shows
up while he’s doing it and he stops running to her glad she came back to him.
Ashley tells him he needs help and she’s going to get it for him.
At detention the following Monday JT is commenting about how
gutsy that Liberty was in talking to Raditch the way she did. She smiles and
kisses JT commenting about how she crushed on him for four years and JT kisses
back…..FINALLY
Craig is in the hospital and it seems as if it’s a week or
so later. Craig has been diagnosed bipolar and is getting help for it. He tells
Ashley that this is her out and she can go get out before it gets too much. She
tells him that she’s not going anywhere.
