As the episode opens and Kwan is talking to the grade eight’s
about romance Craig steps into the room to pick something up for Simpson and
Manny has a musical fantasy. First I would like to say to those fans wining
about the random bursts of song these past few seasons it’s not something brand
new and two I just want to say Cassie Steele and Jake Epstein’s voices are
flawless.
WHATEVER IT TAKES
The grade eights now in Simpson’s class are telling him
that there is commuter issues however the issue is that they made a flash animation
congratulating him on his engagement to Emma’s mom. Emma asks if he minds that
she told her friends about it and he says it was fine. Manny then asks how he
knew it was love as she clearly has a love of her own on her mind. In the hall after class Emma is saying how
she helped Simpson pick the ring out and how her mom not him did the proposing
and has a feminist moment saying how sometimes the women just need to take
charge and seize the moment. Craig approaches and they say hi. Emma pushes
Manny telling her she should ask Craig out.
Ellie meanwhile is reading a book and Marco approaches saying
how he also likes the author. From a far
Hazel and Paige are talking about Marco and how he’s cute and unattached and
Hazel declares not for long and plans to ask them out. In MI class later on
Ellie is looking at the computer and Ashley asks if she’s crushing on someone
based on the look on her face. Ellie then sends a secret admire message to
Marco who in turn tilts his head back to see Hazel and smile.
Manny has another daydream about Craig sans musical number
and tells him she likes him abruptly before walking away. He tells her to wait
and he likes her too and they awkwardly set a date.
Marco and Ellie are in the library where Marco brings up
the Email and Ellie smiles saying someone likes him.
Craig preparing for the date and Joey comments about
finally going with Ashley but Craig shakes his head and says he’s going with
Manny who is only eleven months younger (I found it interesting that Joey
thought he was going with Ashley considering the epic triangle with him and
those two girls later on) Meanwhile at Emma’s Manny is getting ready telling
Emma to cover if her parents call and receiving a rose from Craig upon his arrival.
The following scene is the following day….or Monday as I
don’t know when the actual date was just that now they are at school. The girls
are asking Manny how the date was and the boys are doing the same. It reminds
me of Summer Nights from grease as they both retell their versions of the
night. For Manny it’s all magical as they go to the mall only to find a
carnival however in Craig’s version he almost chokes on cotton candy and
everything that can go wrong seems to. Craig tells the boys that Manny’s cute
but she reminds him of his little sister. Which once again I’ll note Craig’s Sister
Angie is played by Alex Steele who is Cassie (Manny)’s sister in real life.
Marco gets a message from the admirer to meet in the Zen
Garden which is the earliest carnation of the garden however in earlier season
it was more an atrium then a greenhouse like it is when Jake and Katie set it
up back in season 12. Marco asks why Ellie’s there and not Hazel and she says
she’s the admirer and is sorry he’s upset.
He follows her out and says he was planning to tell Hazel he wasn’t
interested in her cause he preferred Ellie.
Manny decorates Craig’s locker with hearts and is taken
aback and soon Ashley comes over asking Craig to sign a petition against Genetically
Modified food. Craig signs as Manny asks why they are so bad and is all naive.
As Ashley leaves Manny says she doesn’t like Craig and Ashley together and then
asks Craig why he’s sad and Craig tells Manny he doesn’t really like her like
he thought he did….ouch.
