1x11 Friday Night Recap

Before I go on last season’s episode Waterfalls gave me massive nostalgic feels about the Semma sub plot in this episode and this re-watch has done the inverse giving me Camaya ones…..awwwww young love so innocent

The episode opens as Manny approaches Emma showing off new nail polish however their girl time is cut short as Sean shows up. Manny walks away briefly while Sean points out it’s Friday and asks if Emma wants to hang out. As he leaves and Manny returns Emma is all excited…..She thinks Sean has asked her on a date!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Whatever it Takes……

Emma and Manny enter homeroom and Toby approaches saying hi. As he steps out of earshot Emma comments to Manny how she wished Toby was crushing on her instead of Emma. I’m sure in her mind she was hoping for Semma and Manny/Toby double dates. You know come to think of it Manny/Toby would have been a cute ship that never was. I need some AU fanfics pronto. Anyway she goes over what Sean said to her earlier in the hall trying to decipher if they were going on a date or not.

As for the grade eights Kwan is passing out permission slips to see Romeo and Juliet in Strafford. (See I told you that play pops up multiple times through the series!) There is a clicking sound in the background and upon further investigation the sound is coming from Spinner, clicking his pen and listening to his diskman. Kwan takes it and accidentally breaks it before giving him detention.

Emma and Manny are still trying to decipher if it’s a date or not in PE where they are playing dodge ball. Emma turns around and begins attacking Sean who is on the other team because she’s so confused as to all these mixed messages being tossed at her.

Spinner is getting ready to work in the café (you know….where he was sentenced to work last episode) and he’s talking about Kwan. She is a tyrant and a witch and she needs to be taken down a peg. He leaves and Kwan soon shows up breaking him and Ashley up for PDA commenting about how they think they are cute and sweet when in reality no one cares. Now I’ll admit I did like season one JimAsh however when they got back together in later seasons I was in the no one cares camp and there are a few relationships through the years I really didn’t care for and I’m sure when those ships happen I’ll be vocal with my opinions interjected into my recapping. Jimmy is in the cafeteria telling Spinner what Kwan did and asks if Jimmy wants to help take her down.

Emma sees Paige and asks her for relationship advice. She says that yea what Sean said in so many words was him asking for a date and there was also another mention of the infamous Heather Sinclair.

Kwan is running late to class and so while waiting Jimmy and Spinner begin to mock her. Unfortunately for them she heard them through the intercom and Spinner now is going to have company in detention….and Jimmy now is totally in on making the teachers life a living hell.

Sean and Emma are IM’ing and Sean is definitely still on for their date despite Emma attacking him at dodge ball.

During detention Kwan mentions that she’s teaching Night School in three hours and the boys formulate a master revenge plan.

Emma is getting ready for Sean as Spike talks about her disastrous first date. Emma is not amused. Sean shows up and greets Spike as Christine and not Miss Neilson which I personally found odd and slightly disrespectful unless they had previously met sometime aside from Parents Night off-screen and she told him to call her this. They take pictures and head out. Emma begins to rambling and as she apologizes for her verbal diarrhea she gets some avian diarrhea placed firmly on her jacket causing her to go back inside to change.

Breaking into the school, Jimmy and Spinner make noises over the intercom as Kwan teaches an ESOL class however hide before she can find them. They then proceed to call a pizza place and order Wings

Sean and Emma go to some burger place. It looked to be in the mall but I couldn’t tell. Ahh those dark ages before the Dot which first was introduced to us in season 3. Emma hopes it’s alright she got him a vegie burger and he nods saying that as long as it’s not meat. He’s not a vegetarian he still likes meat however since visiting a slaughter house he doesn’t eat it much anymore. That’s kind of why I became a pescetarian myself. I had to look at a site for a company who sold domestic animal meat and it made me sick to think people ground up cats and dogs and served it to the public and since Fall 06 I’ve been meat free.

Back from my tangent and speaking of meet The Wings arrive and Kwan is confused. She didn’t order them however her students pitch in and buy them.

After dinner Emma and Sean are ready to go to the movies however Emma is in panic. She doesn’t know where her wallet is and thinks she tossed it in the trash with her tray. She and Sean go back and begin to dig through the garbage can before being directed to check the dumpster.

Jimmy and Spinner now are also outside though back at the school and are Egging Kwan’s car. I know of at least one other moment where there was a car egging on this show.

Emma realizes she had her wallet all along and is embarrassed about how the date went and runs off leaving Sean confused.

On Monday Emma is talking to Manny, JT, and Toby about the date and how it was a disaster when Sean comes over. He comments about the wallet before asking if he can have a copy of one of the photos of the two of them a smile crossing his lips.

Jimmy and Spinner meanwhile are bragging about Friday Night and what they did to Kwan however their glory is short lived when the Principal arrives saying how Kwan is taking a leave of absence for the rest of the term and he’ll be subbing and that their trip is no more. When asked why Kwan is gone he replies that her husband has been sick and having two jobs has been stressful. Jimmy and Spinner are full of regret.
