This is the second 80’s movie
reference episode this season however this time the reference is only a sub
plot. The movie is Ferris Bueller's day off. This movie is later referenced
next season as well.
Episode opens in Science class
Miss H is giving a lecture then tells Paige to pick up Ashley’s homework for
her as she’s sick….again. Paige nods before saying to Spinner that they should
skip the following day.
WHATEVER IT TAKES
And poof it’s the following day.
Dylan gives Paige his car for the day and makes her promise to bring it back
safe and sound with a full tank of gas. Paige nods giving him a forged note to
give to the secretary saying she’s out sick.
Spinner is also out ‘sick’ faking
it for his mom and while Kendra tries to call him out she is thwarted and soon
Paige comes to pick him up.
JT’s whispering in MI to Emma
asking if Manny would be interested in going to the Bollywood Nights dance with
him. Simpson doesn’t like the disruption and sentences them to defragmenting
the computers in the lab during their lunch period.
Ashley is playing sad and
depressing music on her piano when Kate walks in. She comments how Ashley needs
to stop staying home from school and that when she gets back from work they
should continue to talk about what they were talking about before. Transferring
may be a good idea.
Paige and Spinner are talking
about what they want to do on their epic day off. Spinner doesn’t care what so
long as they go mini golf. As they talk about their itenery Paige’s cell rings
and after attempting to impersonate her mom least it be the school it turns out
Ashley is on the other line asking when Paige will come over with her next
round of makeup work. Paige admits she and Spinner are playing hooky and will
be over in a few.
They show up and Paige tries to
coax Ashley to come out and play. She tells them to think of Dylan’s car as a
magic genie and they all get a wish. Paige wishes to go to a nice lunch with
her boyfriend and oldest friend, Spinner wants to mini golf and Ashley wants to
see Terri whom at this point she STILL hasn’t seen despite promising to go post
battle of the bands (I guess since they didn’t win she thought her promise was
null and void)
At the hospital Terri is much
better except for the migraines she gets from the surgery and the whole hitting
her head on a rock thing. A doctor comes in to chance her band aids and as
Ashley leaves the room freaking out this is the last we see of Terri who in
either a deleted scene and/or simple word of god we hear Terri transferred to
an all-girl private school.
During lunchtime detention Emma
asks Alex to move over to shop on another computer as she needs to work on the
one she’s on. Alex refuses so Emma will have to do it after school and all that’s
left is Simpson’s. JT asks if they have to close all the programs before they
can do the work and Emma nods. They go to close his open word document and find
that Simpson was working on his will. Has his cancer taken a turn for the
worst?
Spinner, Paige, and Ashley are in
a nice restaurant having lunch when Ashley comments that these are the best
years of their lives however it’s just been one disaster after another and she
swears the school is cursed. Honey…this is only late season three….with the
show now being in season 13 you ain’t seen nothing yet….She tells the others
next year she’s going to leave Degrassi. Spinner and Paige are trying to
convince her to stay when they spot Raditch and dine and dash.
Once they leave the restaurant they
go play mini golf per Spinner’s wish as well as going to a movie, the arcade,
and art gallery. As they continue to chill out Paige tells Ashley who continues
to be a sour puss to lighten up.
Emma is asking where Simpson is
to confront him about the will and soon she runs into Alex and a confrontation leads
to a catfight.
At the mall there is an Elvis impersonation
contest. Under that backdrop Spinner comments how he’d of had a funnier day if
Ashley wasn’t with them. Taking offence to the comment Ashley goes to get
snacks.
Emma confronts to Simpson she
thought they were over keeping secrets and it’s important to note she calls him
DAD considering in episodes one and two of the season she repeatedly said he wasn’t
her father and she’d never call him dad. Simpson tells her he gets his final
chemo results that afternoon and if it’s negative….well he just wants to
prepare for the worst.
Ashley’s been gone for almost a
half hour and Paige is getting worried however soon she’s found donning a
sequin jumpsuit and singing on stage.
Simpson gets his results in and
while some of his cell counts could be better he’s in remission.
Kate comments about coming home
early to see if Ashley was feeling better but she was gone only to come home
with some odd trophy. Ashley is in hysterics and it’s clear she’s feeling much
better.
Spinner and Paige make their way
back to Degrassi or the hockey rink or wherever Dylan is. They got a parking
ticket somewhere down the line but it was a small price to pay for their adventure.
