3x10 Never Gonna Give You Up RECAP

I didn’t go off and rant during his first appearance because I wanted to focus on the A plot but I can’t stand Rick at all. Sure in the last episode he showed up he seemed all adorkable and romantic sending the letters to Terri however in this episode and for the remainder of his arch in this and the next season I couldn’t stand him and I think of all the antagonists the series has had he’s the one I loathe the most.

Anyway the episode opens with Rick as well as Terri, Hazel, Jimmy, and Marco in the auditorium as they are doing scene studies and will be doing an original piece by Marco. Marco wants to act so Jimmy is appointed director much to Rick’s dismay. Rick is told he can be stage manager and nods. Terri meanwhile is the lead and doesn’t think she’s good enough despite Rick’s assurance.

WHATEVER IT TAKES

At the rehearsal Terri is nervous and Rick gives her breathing tips which are making her acting worse off than it already is.

Spinner is talking to Craig about how he’s working at the Dot now which I’m sure his experience at the cafeteria was a helpful thing to put on his resume. As they talk he sees Paige talking to JT and gets annoyed as the underclassman is always around. Approaching the duo Spinner asks JT to leave and he begins to mock him. When JT finally leaves Spinner asks Paige when she’s going to cut him loose and Paige says never and that the boys need to bond.

Rick and Terri are standing outside a classroom that Jimmy and Hazel are in. He asks how long she and Jimmy have known one another all jealous and possevily while inside the room Hazel is commenting how cute the couple is while Jimmy tells her how creepy he thinks Rick is. After school the group meets at the Dot to talk shop about the scene and Rick is all over Terri telling her how she doesn’t want a burger and how she’s been ‘craving’ a Salad and eventually makes her order one instead.

The next day the Principal approaches JT about a love poem slipped under his office door by JT. JT doesn’t know how that got there and says it’s a joke. As he opens his locker to see pictures of the Principal, Spinner snickers commenting that JT should LOCK his locker next time and so the epic prank war begins.

At Practice Terri is following the tips Rick gave him and she’s getting worse and worse.

JT walks down the hall and pulls down Spinner’s pants to reveal the rather cliché red heart boxers.

Rick tells Terri that Jimmy is a control freak and a hack and is trying to make Terri look bad by contradicting the tips he’d given her. She ends up following Rick’s advice and not listening to Jimmy and in turn is laughed off the stage. After the show Terri comments to Rick about how she should have listened to Jimmy who causes him to snap and grab her arm with force only to apologize the next day saying he’d been jealous of her relationship with Jimmy. In the bathroom the girls are impressed with the way Rick sent flowers to Terri not knowing they were apology flowers. Paige says they need girl time and Terri says she needs to check in first. The girls are baffled as to why she’d need to do this and soon Hazel notices the mark on Terri’s arm and Terri lies saying she tripped in PE. This is obviously a massive foreshadowing of pretty much the rest of Terri’s arch on the series.

Spinner and JT apologize for their deeds and it seems as if amends have been made until JT is talking to Manny when fart sounds echo from his locker as Spinner planted a tape player.

Terri asks Rick about girl’s night and he asks why she needs one. He thinks that without him she’s going to say ‘things’ about him and she calls him crazy. Slapping her face Rick snaps to NEVER CALL HIM CRAZY! Before once more apologizing.

JT shows up at the DOT and sits in Spinner’s section ordering food and hen repeatedly sending it back leading Spinner to eventually being promoted to dishwasher.

Terri goes to Paige’s anyway and Hazel once again questions her about the arm as well as the mark on her lip from when he slapped. Terri says Hazel is jealous that she has a boyfriend and wants Rick all to herself causing her to leave. Rick is waiting for her near her home. Rick tells her she shouldn’t see the girls anymore because they upset her and she tells him she just wants to be alone and he’s smothering her. This time Rick pushes her against a wall.

The following day JT and Spinner apologize and call a truce while Terri finds a rose from Rick on her locker like before and stomps on it.
