3x03 U Got The Look

If this were an episode of Friends this would be known as the one with Manny’s thong.

The episode opens as the soccer team is coming back from big victory as the team and spirit squad are coming off the bus back at Degrassi. Manny approaches Sully (see told you he’d have a brief arch this season) however she gets rebuffed. Paige informs her that she isn’t sully’s type but she can give Manny a list of guys she’d be totally cute with. Manny doesn’t want to be cute. ‘Bunnies and Puppies are cute’ she laments as Paige suggests that maybe she should change her image.

WHATEVER IT TAKES

Emma’s talking about the new club she’s starting up SITE (Students improving the environment) and Manny commends Emma’s mission to save the world and says she has a mission of her own….to be HOT. Removing the oversized windbreaker she has on she reveals a crop top and a pair of velour pants.

Craig is off the grounding he received the previous episode from skipping school. Marco mentions how he’s glad that Craig is back because the band needs its lead singer. This is the first mention/carnation of what will later be referred to as Downtown Sasquatch. Joey’s eyes light up like a kid at Christmas at the mention of a band waxing nostalgic about the Zits and offers the garage for practice.

In class the grade nines are watching a video in Miss H’s class and JT leans over to Manny’s desk asking to examine her doodles. Sure this could easily be a sexual innuendo however it’s important to point out Manny had a notebook full of doodles.

Joey’s with Sydney….brushing over what was going on but soon they hear music from Craig’s band and head out to the garage. Craig, Jimmy and Marco are on guitar while Spinner’s on drums. He pulls out a keyboard from a storage area and sets it up. Craig asks if he thinks Ashley should be in the band and Joey shakes his head and wants to sit in singing ‘Everybody Wants Something.

Emma and Manny are at the Mall after school and Emma teases Manny that JT has a crush. Manny blushes saying that she’s glad her makeover is working but still it’s just JT and she feels her look is still a bit too tame. Looking over at a display of thongs Emma rolls her eyes in disgust however the following day Manny shows up to school strutting the halls with it showing from below her jeans.

JT mentions to Toby he is crushing on Manny.

In class Liberty points out to Manny how she can see her underpants and how it’s trashy and against the dress code. After class in the hall Manny mentions how she’s pretty sure JT is going to ask her out and its clear Liberty is jealous about this.  Soon she’s alone in the hall as JT approaches her nervously with the intent to ask her out. He begins to ramble and before he can get to the punch Sully arrives asking about Emma’s meeting which she has flyers for and asks if she’s going to go. Manny says she is and she does along with a majority of Degrassi’s male population who are fawning over her instead of listening to Emma’s lecture.

Joey goes to Caitlin’s office to borrow her camera to film the band and they wax nostalgic for a bit before he heads home and starts to film the boys. He says they are still rough and perhaps they should do covers like George Michael because Craig knows the words to ‘Faith’ right?. He gets a call and steps out and the boys rant about how hovering he is being toward them while the camera is still on.

Sean apologizes for being in the auto shop and not coming to the meeting and Emma says how he’s one of the only guys not to go but don’t be jealous cause they were there for Manny who casually asks if she should start going by full name Manuela because Sully thinks it’s sexy and exotic. Her happiness is short lived because the principal yells at her for breaking dress code with visible underpants.

Joey sees the video of the boys making fun of him and is sad.

The following day Emma tells Manny how she’s sorry she got busted for dress code violation only to soon reveal another skimpy outfit. Emma says she doesn’t want her to get in trouble and Manny asks if she sees any visible underwear….nope because she’s going commando.  In class Manny goes to bend down to pick up something and the boys enjoy the show however JT strategically jumps up and blocks at least the viewers from getting a view of her ass crack.  JT later asks her out however she explains she’s now with Sully. Emma asks why she blew JT off when it was clear that he liked her and she pouts. She’s always there for Emma whenever she has things going on so why can’t she be happy for her just this once. This is who she is now and if Emma doesn’t like it then their friendship is done. Emma walks away.

Craig comes home from rehearsal which now is at Marcos and apologizes for what was said in the video. Joey says he deserved it and just wanted to feel young again and tells Craig if they want to move back to the garage and he promises to but out.

Emma and JT walk down the hall and Manny is watching them. Sully asks what is wrong and Manny says nothing.
