This episode at least the A plot at parts gets a bit dark
and gritty and real so be forewarned.
The episode opens as JT and Liberty are talking to the
guidance counselor. Liberty is six months pregnant and still only Toby and
Danny know about the pregnancy. Liberty is scared to tell her dad and admits
that she wants to carry the baby to term even if abortion were still a viable
option. JT wants to be referred to an adoption agent but right now Liberty
wants to keep the baby.
WHATEVER IT TAKES
JT is at a TV studio as he’s working on a cable access children’s
show as Toby shows up. They have plans however with two jobs JT now has two
jobs and he’s been flustered. He has to go to the pharmacy after his and asks
for a rain check. JT then brings up how Liberty is dead set on adoption however
he wants to change her mind.
Across town at the Dot, Manny and Craig are making out as
Emma shows up. She teases to get a room oh wait Manny has one….hers and they
say how they are going to a concert and offer Emma to come with. She declines
not wanting to be a third wheel.
Jay shows up at the pharmacy and mocks JT about his television
gig telling him how if he needs money so badly that he has to take two jobs he
has ways to help.
Emma is signing up for a Relay for Life walk and Peter is
also on the list causing her to toll her eyes. Emma is so over him for what he
did to Manny.
JT tries to let Liberty know there are options other than
adoption and she soon asks him to go with her to the ONGYN.
In media immersion, Simpson puts JT on the spot about his TV
gig and Liberty is impressed that he’s doing it.
Craig and Manny decided to set Emma up with Derek. They
blindside the two of them and Derek shows up at the Dot. Emma smiles and asks
him out and it’s hard to tell if she’s being genuine or if she’s merely
humoring her friends.
Liberty is at the doctor’s office and asks JT to look at the
sonogram however at first he’s afraid because looking makes it real. After the appointment
Liberty tells JT they can check out adoption agents because it’s what he wants.
JT knows that she wants to try to keep the baby and so he tells her if she
wants to keep it he’s on board. But first….they need to tell their parents. The
following morning Liberty arrives bright and early to talk to JT’s grandma and
tells her that they are having a baby. She’s in shock and tells them bluntly
that she’s raised JT’s mom and JT and she’s not spending her retirement raising
another child. She also says that they
should go for adoption because she doesn’t want Liberty to go through what JT’s
mom did when his dad walked out.
Peter wants to call a truce with Emma at least for Relay
telling her it was stupid what he did with Manny and how he’s heard once upon a
time she held a crush on him. He tells her he’ll be at the movie theater at the
mall the following day and hopes she’s there too.
JT and Liberty need to tell her parents about the baby
however she’s worried that her dad will kick her out and then where would she
go as it’s clear his grandma wouldn’t let her stay with them. JT tells her he’ll
find them a place and will quit his TV job which isn’t a paid one and take up
more hours up at the pharmacy. When they find someplace then they’ll tell her
parents so if she is kicked out they’ll have a place to go. We then are met
with a montage spliced with scenes of the house hunt, JT working, and Liberty
looking at her growing bump.
Emma and Derek go on their date however it’s clear they don’t
have anything in common. Derek loves wrestling and hunting while Emma prefers
BBC Mini Series’ and is a vegetarian and soon she walks out.
JT and Liberty find a place however they have to pay first
AND last month’s rent upon signing and that is 1,500 which is out of their
range.
At the pharmacy, Jay arrives making a comment about JT not
being on the kids show anymore and JT tells him how he needs the money. Jay
tells him he should get creative and by creative he means stealing oxy on the
sly and selling it.
Emma arrives at the theater and sees Peter and they go to
the movie together however he’s not to touch or her acknowledge her there.
JT pockets the oxy from the pharmacy and…..TO BE CONTINUED….
He (JT) meets up with Jay in the ally to say he has the
pills. Jay then takes him to the ravine to make a sale. JT gets money but needs
more in order to pay the rent for the apartment and so he’s given an advance in
good faith that he’ll come back with another score.
I KNOW I CAN MAKE IT THROUGH
Toby is looking over the apartment and is impressed with the
place as he watches JT giving the money to the land lord. The man isn’t sure
about him and Liberty moving in as babies are expensive and he’s worried that
JT won’t be able to make rent.
The B-plot shifts now as the Simpson’s and Manny are getting
ready to head to Degrassi. Baby Jack is sick with an ear infection and is
crying as Simpson peddles his bike to school. When he arrives he spots Joey and
his younger woman. Joey asks Simpson if he wants to skip work and go on a joy
ride and when Simpson declines Joey tells him that he needs to live a little.
Liberty is stunned to hear that JT was able to afford the
apartment and since he’s paid the deposit now is the time to tell her parents
about them. Her dad seems pissed however her mom says she’s willing to help out….that
is if JT keeps his distance. Liberty doesn’t want to lock JT out (not now anyway)
and so she tells them she’s moving out.
The following day Simpson has traded his bicycle for a
motorcycle and Miss H makes a comment as it seems she’s a motorcycle enthusiast.
Liberty goes to the pharmacy and comments to JT that his
employee discount will at least help them with their bills when the time comes.
As they talk the pharmacist approaches asking if JT knows anything about the
missing oxy but he denies it saying he knows nothing about it. When he walks
away Liberty is already putting two and two together asking JT if the apartment
money and missing drugs had some kind of connection and he admits it did. She
storms out pissed off and later JT asks Toby to cash in his bonds that I’d
presume he got for his Bar Mitzvah so that he can take the money and give it
back to the dealer in hopes that he can get the pills back to replace……yea it
doesn’t work like that sweetie.
The Simpson’s are having dinner and Christine finds out
about the bike for the first time.
Jay approaches JT with his friend who tells JT the advance
was in good faith and he’d better bring a second batch or else. He beats JT up
just enough to shake him and JT soon steals more pills.
Christine asks Simpson if the motorcycle is part of some midlife
crisis. Simpson tells her he just wanted to does something fun.
Liberty asks JT if things are better and he’s made things
right with all the drugs dealing. JT says it’s the opposite and he’s made it
worse. Liberty tells him she doesn’t want to deal with a dealer and walks out.
After this JT heads to the ravine and tosses the drugs at Jay and his friend
telling them he’s done with all of this. He lost his girl, kid, job (as when he
stole the second batch it was implied that he got caught) and eventually he
takes some of the pills.
Simpson is staying late at school and Miss H comments why he’s
indoors instead of riding his motorcycle out in the last rays of daylight. They
talk a bit and soon she asks for a ride. This can’t end well…
JT is mixing the drugs with drinking and ends up passing out.
Simpson tells Joey he’s going to go ahead and buy the
motorcycle.
JT’s at the hospital after getting his stomach pumped. He’s
on suicide watch which is kind of eeary that he’d want to kill himself and then
about a year later he does end up well….spoilers to those who are going into
this blind. Anyway Liberty’s dad has talked to the pharmacy so JT won’t have
any charges placed upon him and Liberty tells him she’s made up her mind and is
going to talk to an adoption agent.
