Marco is at work rehearsing for the school drama festival as
his dad looks on. His dad doesn’t want Marco to seriously take up acting as he
wants him to go into the printing business with him. Marco tells his dad he
wants to go into social work (though later we do find out that social work has
morphed into teaching but that’s neither here nor there at present). His dad
brings up that his cousin is a social worker and his cousin is gay and says
that when a parent has a gay kid it makes them feel like failures.
WHATEVER IT TAKES
Marco is worried about the drama fest and is talking about
Craig and Paige about it. They call him out saying the reason he signed up and
dragged them into it is because he has his eye on the new guy Tim who is in the
play as well.
Peter tries to flirt with Emma some more and she tells him
that he’ll never get her and the movie the other night so wasn’t a date however
it’s clear with the tension between them that she does still very much like
him.
Craig, Marco, and Paige are running lines when Marco sees
Tim being bashed in the hall. Marco takes him to coffee and they talk. Marco
gets it…he’s gone through what Tim has gone through and promises to help him
through the trials of being a gay teen.
Emma’s selling tickets to the drama fest and Peter wants to
help….selling is in his blood as his dad sells luxury cars. He asks her out but
she can’t because Manny is her best friend and that she hates him. Speaking of
Manny when Emma gets home her friend and roommate is talking about revenge on
the bastard who caused her so so much pain.
Tim comes up to Marco distraught the next day at school. His
father discovered the gay teen chat site that he’d left up and he’s worried. Marco
gives him the advice to talk to him even though he’s yet to talk to his own
dad.
Emma approaches Peter who is flirting with another girl
talking about a party. Emma rolls her eyes and he calls her a tease for
flirting with him but always turning him down.
Tim shows up at Marco’s. He talked to his dad about being
gay and was kicked out. Marco tells his dad that Tim was kicked out because his
dad thought his acting was impractical. Mr. Del Rossi agrees with this but
wouldn’t kick Marco out cause of it.
Emma and Manny plan a revenge plot. Emma is going to go to
the party and ‘seduce’ Peter shooting a video of him in a compromising position
with her phone and doing unto him what he did unto Manny.
Marco tells Paige about how Tim slept over due to his father
kicking him out and how Marco feels like a hypocrite cause he told him to tell
his dad when he still hasn’t. Paige tells him he really needs to tell.
At Peter’s party Emma shows up.
At the Drama Fest, Marco tries to come out to his dad before
the scene starts. He tells his father how Tim is gay and Mr. Del Rossi comments
how he’s disappointed and doesn’t want a queer under his roof. Marco comments
saying what if he already does and his dad leaves going to take a seat and soon
the scene begins.
Emma and Peter are now in his room and Emma is startling Peter
as he’s beginning to undress. He begins to apologize because his room is pretty
much his dad’s second office and Emma pulls back to confide that since Jack was
born she’s been exiled to the basement. They share a kiss and then Emma leaves
but not before snapping a pic of him for posterity.
Mid scene Marco stops and comes out to his dad.
Manny asks Emma how it went with Peter and she says that she
just went unnoticed looking at the photo and smiling when Manny isn’t looking.
Marco’s mom asks how the play went and he tells her that it
was good. His dad wants to leave the room but he’s stopped because Marco needs
to talk. His dad admits he still loves him as he’s his son however he doesn’t
want to hear about what Marco does or doesn’t do with men.
