The second school election episode
and one a bit more interesting than the last. The episode opens as Marco is at
the mall or just a local convince store and is taking pictures in a photo booth
when Dylan peeps his head in the booth to kiss Marco. Marco reminds him that his
mom works in the store and he’s still in the closet to her and his dad. His mom
soon approaches and Marco hides the kiss picture showing his mom the proofs as
since his father is making election posters for him his mom says she gets final
say in pictures. When she leaves Marco offers the couple photo to Dylan who in
not so many words tells Marco he really wishes he’d come out to his parents.
WHATEVER IT TAKES
At school the next day Paige is
looking up want ads to find that job she promised she’d get last episode as
Marco is talking. He tells her how he tried to call Dylan the night before and
couldn’t get a hold of him. Paige says he called her and she’s worried that
something is brewing between the two of them. As they are walking down the hall
they have a run in with Alex and you can practically taste the tension between
the two girls….or I could have just been looking at all the Palex (Paige +
Alex) subtext but still…
Chris walks up to Emma who looks so
much more grown up and stunning and less awkward then the last few seasons and
they start to talk despite a momentary interruption by Liberty. Emma is sorry
for whatever it was that happened between them over the summer and Chris says
they should go out for shakes after school sometime.
Alex approaches Marco in the hall
greeting him with ‘Hi Gay Kid’ before talking about issues for the campaign…turns
out she’s running against him for class president.
Liberty approaches Chris outside and
gets all flirty saying how she wants to broaden her musical horizon and they
seemingly set a date to go to a music store together.
Marco’s friends are all WTF about
Alex’s presidential run saying they’ll do whatever they can to help him crush
the completion. He receives a text and walks out of the room. When he leaves
Paige comments that there is trouble brewing between her friend and brother.
Marco meanwhile calls Dylan who I would assume was the sender of the text he
got and Dylan ends up breaking up with him.
In Armstrong’s class Liberty is
writing I love Chris all over her notebook as Manny is oohing and ahhhing that
someone is in love because she got an answer wrong when called upon. Emma
counteracts by bringing up Liberty’s dyscalculia you know the learning
disability she was diagnosed with back in season one however soon she discovers
perhaps Manny is somewhat right as she sees the notebook for her own eyes and a
pang of jealousy runs through her.
Marco’s dad is excited as he shows
Marco the posters saying he can’t wait for his victory party. Marco informs his
dad he has competition in the race and is soon seen wallowing in his room
working on his speech. His mom comes in asking what’s up and he starts saying he’s
having a block on the speech but soon starts telling her how he’d been in a
relationship and was dumped. His mom says she didn’t know he had a girlfriend
and he informs her he didn’t. Putting two and two together her mom asks if he
meant Dylan and after at first denying it breaks down and tells her he’s gay.
Manny informs Emma that Liberty is
going out on a date with Chris and Emma isn’t having any of that.
Paige informs Marco she was on the
phone over three hours with Dylan the night before as Marco informs her that he
came out to his mom. Alex soon comes by ripping up Marco’s posters for looking
like they were over budget despite being done for free. She informs him it
doesn’t matter as she plans to ask the school if they want to vote for the
freak or the queer….she’s the freak and Marco gets worried as his dad’s going
to be at the debate and doesn’t know he’s gay.
Emma approaches Chris saying she’s
serious about getting back together and they set a date. When Manny offers to
help Emma get ready she tells the other girl she’s only getting back together
with Chris so that he doesn’t get together with Liberty as it would ruin her
reputation to see her ex downgrade by dating the other girl. Manny thinks its
cold even for her. At this I’m laughing not because of how OOC this seems as
far as Emma goes making me REALLY want to know what happened over the summer
but just thinking about the triangle Emma and Liberty are in come season seven
just makes me LOL.
Marco is talking to his mom about
the campaign and what Alex is going to say and it seems she is accepting of
things. He wants to quit and tells his dad this but his dad tells him not to.
Before the election Emma tells
Liberty she thinks she’s going to vote for Alex and yea she’s shocked too and
Liberty says Emma’s dead to her as Manny told her all about the Chris thing.
Marco tells Alex she has a good chance
of winning but does she really want to by using his sexuality against him. She
gives the speech she planned however changes queer to the slightly less
offensive yet more vague pretty boy. Marco then gives his speech as Jay cough
speaks from the audience calling him queer causing him to talk back about it
yet not coming out. Marco ends up winning and asks Alex to be his Vice in a
scene slightly reminiscent of Drew and Clare in season twelve. Dylan congratulates
him and Marco informs him he came out to mom but still scared about dad. Dylan
knows he’ll do it when he’s ready and soon his dad asks about the queer comment
to which Marco replies ‘Dirty Politics’
