Wow….one more season down and one complete season to go
until we get to the present one.
The finale opens as Fiona asks Imogen if she’s ready to make
a move since they’ve been trying to overthrow the student office since the
start of the school year (read-mid season) and now that Katie’s gone off the
grid thanks to her little pill problem taking reign from Marisol will be a
piece of cake. As it is, Marisol is being swarmed by students wanting to get a
word in. a freshman says that Katie promised to talk to Simpson about the
uniforms and Marisol says and Mo parrots back that she’s not Katie. Fiona and
Imogen then saunter in and Fiona comments about how there have been no social
activities what-so-ever this school year and winter is coming…. Winter break
that is and she has a great idea for an event that will knock everyone’s socks
off. Marisol brings up the coffee house and informs Fiona that since Vegas
Night and Prom ended in disaster Simpson has banned any nighttime events and
tells her personal bouncer Mo to boot them out.
WHATEVER IT TAKES
Clare shows up to the news office with her piece on the
holiday food drive and asks where Katie is. Liam says she’s gone till next year
and that the paper is going to go on hiatus until then too. Clare thinks it’s
insane that they want to give up just because Katie is MIA and that the Holiday
Edition is legend vows that she can do it.
Eli’s talking to the girls about their plan with Marisol
before Imogen suggests some online retail therapy at lunch before heading out
to take Italian….I thought she was in Spanish because she and Jake were
borrowing notes…. Continuity fail or is Imogen just an budding linguist. After
she leaves, Eli asks Fiona when they are just going to make out. Fiona is all
defensive on his comment but Eli calls her out on the crush. Fiona tells him to
keep it a secret and Eli promises to keep his lips zipped before suggesting
that Fiona simply backdoor Marisol and do her event anyway.
The freshmen are in band however Maya is getting reckless
and starts to go freestyle. She’s known this piece for five years and is bored
but the others have three days to get things ready for the winter recital.
Fiona goes to Simpson to complain about Marisol’s
incompetence and then proposes her idea for an end of the year carnival. She
knows about the nighttime event ban and says that it’s an early release day and
that means plenty of time to have fun before sunset. She’ll foot the bill so
the school will get back 100% of the precedes and she doesn’t mind the 72 hour
time crunch as she’s planned black tie gala’s in less time. Simpson approves so
long as Marisol works alongside her.
Clare enters a classroom where Alli, Jenna, KC and Conner
are sitting and Clare tells them she’s interim editor and could use some help
on the paper. Alli doesn’t want anything to do with this and the others follow
suit.
Fiona comes home to see Laura looking for a passport. She’s
flying back to the states to meet with accountants yet again to talk about
fundraising and finance. She promises it’ll be over soon and will be back in a
few days. Fiona asks for an advance on her trust fund however her mom won’t
allow it….these are pressing times and she’s not going to drain her savings on
frivolity.
Maya’s practicing at home where she’s not forced to play the
same trite piece. Her dad tells her she needs to quiet down because Katie’s
asleep after her session. Maya vents about how grade nine band is so frustrating
because they are all so amateur and her dad says that’s what happens when
you’re talented. Maya sasses him back saying no…what happens is you go to art
school but since she’s stuck at Katie’s choice school she wants her dad to talk
about bumping her to an older class.
Fiona’s on the phone making arrangements for equipment and forging
her mom’s signature on checks. Imogen soon shows up with materials to make
signs and comments about how she’s planning a winter carnival….or as Imogen
dubs it a frostival.
Marisol comments about how Fiona wormed her way in and how
she can’t believe they have to work together. She tells Fiona that she can’t
just simply live life tossing around money to impress her girlfriend and then
the girls kick her out and make her set up the marque or something so she’s
helping out like promised.
Maya shows up with Miss Oh apologizing about being all
uppity and asks to be transferred into grade eleven band. She can’t up herself
at least not to next year but she is offered a chance to study theory instead
of playing.
Clare shows up in the office where KC and Conner are working
on a layout. Clare’s glad she has some friends who care. KC asks what happened
with Alli and Conner gives him the 4-1-1. Clare nods saying and Jenna’s her
bestie and Dave’s her boyfriend so it’ll most likely be just the three of them.
Um Clare did you ask Jake or Adam cause I know at least the latter would say
yes unless him doing the radio show with Dave has clouded his thoughts. KC asks
why she can’t talk to Alli and Conner wishes they could all be friends again.
Imogen tells Fiona the year would have sucked without her
and then asks if it’s true what Marisol said that she’s trying to impress her.
Eli then starts teasing Fiona again about things. Fiona asks if she’d have
Eli’s blessing all things considered. He says they were always better as
friends and besides life’s too short to wonder what if. Fiona’s glad because
she wants to sit back and pamper Imogen with nice things. Eli says he wants
tickets to the carnival and Fiona asks if he has a date.
The freshman sans Maya are playing while she’s hitting the
books or rather looking up want ads to find a REAL band.
Imogen and Fiona are acting all cutesy selling tickets for
the carnival.
Clare wants to apologize to Alli about blaming her for that
night at the cabin while letting Jake off scott free. Alli admits it’s not even
that she’s been pissed about. Dave had sex with another girl while she was at
camp and Clare simply called her issue pedestrian before even hearing it and
THAT is what pissed her off. Alli then tells her the only reason she’s
apologizing is because she needs something. Clare says that’s not true and that
she’s her best friend and she misses her.
Fiona comes home to the loft and notices the door unlocked.
The family attorney is there as well as cops going in to seize things cause
there have been issues with the family’s foundation. Laura is under arrest and
Fiona’s told to keep calm.
Conner and KC show up and they have company in the form of
Alli and Jenna who hopes Clare isn’t upset about the past when she stole KC.
That’s in the past and she has Clare’s blessing to date Jake. Jenna says she
and Jake are just friends but thanks just the same. Clare starts doling out
assignments however there is nobody to do theater. Nobody wants to take it and
Alli comments how it’s not like anyone else is going to walk in the door. Jenna
comments how yea, it’s not like she has unfinished business with anyone
else….Enter Eli and my heart just melts and my eyes tear up and my head begins
to wonder if Alli and Jenna tipped him off about this.
Fiona’s on face time with her mom and blames herself. She
used a forged check from the foundation to pay for the carnival. It goes way
beyond just the one check. Laura is now on house arrest back in the city and
all the families’ assets are frozen. Fiona comments how she has nothing. Laura
says no, they have family. And while she can’t be in Toronto she sent someone
who can be with her. Fiona asks who, her dad? Declan? Declan is heading to the
city to be with her but she’s got the next best thing…. Enter Holly J to help
get Fiona organized. Fiona says she can pack an overnight bag but Laura says
no…. she’s being moved back to New York.
Holly J is back to her own stomping grounds with Fiona who
can’t believe she’s going to be leaving Degrassi in two days. She doesn’t know
what’s going to happen back in the city broke with her mom on house arrest
though she’s sure it’ll be better than the entire school hating her for
canceling the Frostaval now that she can’t afford it. Holly J smiles as she
kneels down and places her hands in the cement where she put her prints before
grad. Imogen heads out of the school seeing the two girls and telling Fiona
they need more tickets before fangirling all over Holly J’s presence. Holly J
leaves as Imogen shows Fiona the layout she’s made up for the carnival as she
patters on how excited she is both for the event and for ruling the school with
Imogen come the new semester.
I KNOW I CAN MAKE IT THROUGH
The Juniors and Eli are toiling away in the paper office as
Clare reads Eli’s article and she’s pleased that he hasn’t taken the fact that
he wasn’t nominated for a Grundy personally. Jenna comments that for being
apart they haven’t missed a beat. Eli then offers to have lunch with Clare
however Clare rejects him. He leaves and the others ask her why. She just doesn’t
want to trigger him.
Fiona’s heading to see Simpson when Marisol corners her
asking her about the money for the Frostival….eleven grand…..Marisol tells her
she better not be talking to Simpson cause she doesn’t have it cause that’s not
cool.
Maya has something to ask tori and that something is fashion
advice. She plans to audition for a legitimate indie band and Tori goes from
being pissed Maya dropped out of Freshman Band to eagerly helping her out.
Fiona tells Simpson about her problem and Simpson tells her
yea…he bets she has problems. He was thinking card board cut outs and ring toss
not some full-fledged carnival with rides and all. Fiona knows and she tells
him how she can fix it…they just need to open it to the public and have it open
later. Simpson rolls his eyes because she promised a safe little daytime
student only affair which is so not what she’s delivering now.
Clare shows up to have lunch with Eli and apologizes for
telling him no earlier. She pulls out a thermos of soup….cauliflower. Eli tells
her things between them don’t have to be awkward. He declares that they break
the ice and try being friends and so he asks if she thinks they could ever get
back to where they were before well everything. Clare’s taken aback by this and
tells him that she doesn’t want to hinder his progress. Eli scoots closer
saying she wouldn’t and in turn spills the hot soup all over his crotch. Clare’s
sorry she ruined his pants and he says they are uniform pants. Eli then asks
for her ice breaker question and she asks him to edit Jenna.
Fiona can’t believe she’s leaving because two years has been
the most stable home she’s ever had. She ponders leaving now to stave off any
further humiliation. Imogen then shows up wanting to cut out snowflakes and
Fiona freaks at her. She tells her how her family is in massive trouble and
that they are broke. Imogen starts being all Mary sunshine however Fiona says
to save it, she still has no friends her grades are floundering and the
carnival is a bust so she’s going to the city.
Maya looks at her reflection in the mirror as she heads out.
Her dad catches her and asks where she’s going. She tells him about her
audition and her dad tells her it’s a bar and she’s thirteen. She breaks down
saying how she doesn’t feel challenged anymore and it’s not like she’s Katie
with a million and one activities to choose from. He says how he’s sure she’ll
find a way to challenge herself.
Fiona is venting to Holly J….Imogen’s right….she’s a
quitter. She then comments how her material objects are insignificant and she
has an epiphany to sell off all her items to make money for the Frostival. And
to the score of Carly Rae Jepson’s Call Me Maybe, Fiona begins to purge herself
of her things.
The Frostival begins as Fiona soon shows up to hand Marisol the
final check. Marisol tells her she shouldn’t doubt Fiona with the money and she
could be an asset. Fiona says that she has to move and Marisol is bummed hoping
Katie is back ASAP. Imogen then shows up telling Fiona how this is better than
she imagined and how she pulled it off. Fiona says how she sold all her things
and its freeing and they end up running off to ride.
Maya shows up and tells Miss Oh she’s ready to play and she’s
found a new way to challenge herself and that’s by playing a new instrument Tori
asks about the audition and she says she’d rather play with the group and they
begin to play ‘Jingle Bells’ off key.
The paper is finished and the first copy comes off the
press. Clare has brought in some celebratory Pizza for a job well done before everyone
heads to the Frostival. Eli then offers to stay back with Clare to make copies.
Imogen and Fiona are on the Ferris wheel and Fiona tells
Imogen she needs to tell her something. Imogen asks what and Fiona kisses her
saying she’s had a crush on her all semester. She starts rambling before Imogen
kisses her back. She’s wanted to do that for so long and she’s confused not
knowing what it means….but it’s too late cause Fiona’s going to New York. Fiona
says she could stay…. After the ride, Holly J comments on their closeness and
Fiona tells her about the kiss. Holly J asks if she’s a lesbian, bi….Fiona says
she’s discovering herself and she plans to come back to Toronto to finish out
the school year. She’ll get a job, a roommate, anything; she just wants to be
happy.
Eli and Clare show up at the carnival and Clare is glad
there isn’t any weirdness. Eli promises there won’t be and asks if she really
was worried that she’d trigger him. Bullfrog then beeps in the distance and Eli
tells her they have an early flight in the morning. He turns around asking if
Clare means what he thinks she means. Clare then kisses him and tells him to
put a hold on his thoughts until he comes home and we end the season on an
optimistic high…..
