7x16 Sweet Child O' Mine recap

The episode opens as Mia is re-auditioning for Spirit Squad. Manny is glad she’s finally back in her rightful place however Holly J is a bit skeptic because of Mia being a teen mom. Not because it’s a sin like Darcy had thought last go but because she’s worried that she’ll shirk on her squad obligations. She wants Mia to prove her worth. Lucas goes to Mia commenting how she has it all yet something is missing.

WHATEVER IT TAKES

Mia enters the school the following day her hands full with stuff for the Spirit Squad dance committee meeting she promised Holly J she’d attend. She’s helped as a cute random nameless guy let’s just call him John Smith holds the for her.

Meanwhile Jay is walking Manny to campus or at least as close to campus as he’s legally allowed to be. She asks if she can see him at lunch and he says he’s going to Hooters with her dad. Weather he’s serious or being sarcastic it’s unclear. She asks when she can go shoe shopping with his mom and there is an awkward pause. Seriously though she wants to meet them but he informs her they are in Malta cause they were deported when he was a kid…he was born in Canada and so he’s a legal citizen.

At the Dance Meeting which is apparently run by student council Mia asks Liberty if she can pilfer leftover decorations for Isabella’s Birthday Party. Liberty says yes and points her in the direction of where a secret stash of balloons are hidden and apparently they are totes BFFS. Lucas wants to talk to Mia since he’s her baby daddy and ends up leaving money in her locker.

Emma comments about why Manny is always wearing her ‘fake’ engagement ring. Manny doesn’t say anything but ends up letting the chemistry teacher test to see if the stone is real and it is…..

Mia is at the DOT for a dance meeting with Isabella. She is interrupted by a parent of one of her daughter’s classmates asking if the party is going to be at some fancy chuck e cheese like venue but it’s at Mia’s moms. Isabella then has a fit because she can’t get a cookie.

Manny has the teacher appraise the ring and she is told it’s worth an estimated Five Thousand. Manny then informs Emma the engagement is real. Emma wants to know if the baby is real too. Manny’s not pregnant she and Jay just click.

Mia wants to know why Lucas is interested in her all of a sudden. He tells her he sees her every day now they are at the same school and wonders what if his fourteen year old self didn’t run off. He wants to spend time with Mia and his daughter and Mia and so she has him watch Isabella while she’s at practice. That night she tells her mom that she let Lucas be with Isabella and her mom isn’t happy, she also says she can’t sit the following evening Aka dance day cause she has to work. Mia gets Lucas to sit.

At the dance, Mia is flirty with ‘John Smith’ while Jay sneaks on campus cleverly disguised in a fake mustache and sunglasses. Manny tells him she got tickets to Malta and Jay tells her to drop the whole wanting to meet his parent’s thing. They aren’t in Malta he wasn’t lying…..just improving the truth.

Johnny and Bruce tease Mia about leaving her kid with Lucas to get into some randoms pants.

Jay asks Manny where her ring is and finds out she hawked it for the plane tickets. She tells him it was his moms and she died when he was little.

Mia is dancing with ‘John Smith’ when Lucas shows up. He tells her to relax because Isabella is with his mom he just wanted a dance.

The next day Mia is looking for money in her locker and Holly J tells her at least Lucas is hot and she should take what she can get. Liberty however tells her in the next scene she can do much better. Mia comments how she doesn’t fit in with the other parents and she doesn’t fit in with her peers. She then freaks because she’s late picking Isabella up and her party is that day. She comes home to set up and her mom tells her that one more late pick up and the daycare is going to report her to Children’s Aid. Lucas shows up to the party.

Jay and Manny are playing phone tag and bump into one another on the street. He gives her his mustache saying no more disguises and lies. He admits once his dad met the woman who became wife number three he started to act our and hasn’t seen him since the wedding. Manny really would like to change that and meet him and we get a reconciliation scene in a deleted moment.

Lucas asks Mia when she’ll tell Isabella he’s her dad. She doesn’t know and he’s determined to prove himself and they decided to do things together.
