Don’t let the title throw you off this episode doesn’t
contain a character death…
The episode opens with Paige and Alex at the theater as Paige
is looking at college guides and how there is going to be a college fair at
school the following week. She then asks if Alex can cover a shift because Matt
is back from the Yukon and they are so going to get their date on and resume
their relationship.
WHATEVER IT TAKES
Liberty is the new school president. There wasn’t an election
as I guess she was running unopposed.
Paige tells Marco he should consider applying to go to
Banting with her. She also keeps begging for Alex to sign up for a university
information session despite the other girl showing no interest in higher
education. Mr. P gives his lecture however everyone is different. Alex starts
to comment on things telling Paige she’s a control freak trying to micro manage
people’s lives. This leads to them getting detention….a detention Alex gets a
pass on cause of her shift.
Jimmy is now the assistant coach of the basketball team and
here we first meet Derek who is asking a few questions.
Paige and Peter are in detention. Simpson comes in to talk to
Paige commenting how her top three schools are all the same and that she really
should have a backup school. Paige knows what she wants and between her and
Simpson her mom’s friend has an in at admissions. She explains she only got
this for talking out in class not distributing porn like Peter and ends up
getting to leave early where she rushes home to get ready for her date.
Jimmy is talking to Hazel about how he has his work cut out
and she tells him how proud she is. Derek and the team however leave the gym
ranting about their cripple coach.
Paige waiting at restaurant and Matt shows up all scruffy. He
just came from the airport and didn’t have time to shower or change. Paige says
she has a present for him and gives him a new organizer before telling him her
plan to go to Banting and business school and asks if he’d consider moving from
Toronto to Kingston with her. He tells her he doesn’t have a plan and is still
finding himself and by finding himself he’s going to go to Vancouver to paint
houses with a friend. He feels bad for this and not getting her anything and so
he gives her a blunt…..he’s dumping her and giving her drugs.
Paige is venting to Marco about her night from hell and once
again begs him to go to Banting with her. Alex doesn’t want to look at schools
and so Paige hands her the blunt and tells her to take it then asks if she’d go
if she were stoned. Alex says if Paige gets high she’ll go and so the two girls
get high and we are met with a montage of them at the fair all high.
Jimmy wants to talk to Derek about his attitude asking him
why he’s so arrogant. He asks him if he’s scared and Derek says yea….scared of
hurting a cripple and they get into a scuffle.
Paige and Alex are still high as kites talking about student
loans and how crazy they are when Marco approaches saying he’s applying to Banting.
Simpson comments he didn’t think Paige was telling the truth when she said her
mom’s friend was in admissions but she’s at the school and wants to talk to
Paige. Paige freaks out because if she blows it her college career is shot plus
her parents will know she’s high. Alex tells her to chill and Paige comments
that this is her future and at least she has one.
More practice and that day they are working on shots. Jimmy
takes one and Derek says he can do better and the boys play a game of one on
one.
Paige shows up to the interview with her mom’s friend high as
a kite and can’t properly answer any of the questions that she’s being given
and eventually admits she is so high.
Derek asks if the moves that Jimmy made in the chair were
flukes and that he so has to teach him what he did. Jimmy agrees but tells him
that when he’s showing off like he knows Derek will say you learnt the moves
from his coach not the guy who was shot.
Paige apologizes for being a jerk to Alex and tells her how her
mom’s friend told her mom and now she’s grounded. Alex tells her that she was
right and she has not future and she spends most of her time wondering if she’s
spending the night at home or at a shelter if her mom’s abusive boyfriend is
around and how can she plan for a future.
